We had hired another contractor to install new irrigation and fix our timer. It took him a month and he was unable to fix the system so there was enough water pressure. We ended up moving on from him, so I went searching on Yelp for someone that could finish the work. I found Mario and he came out to look things over and provide a quote. He sent his crew over a few days later, and they were able to finish everything in a day! They even figured out how to set up the timer so that it was finally connected. First of all, Mario, the owner of the business was very friendly, honest and understanding. I say honest, because what I was planning for my backyard, especially to control rain and flooding, was much more expensive than what Mario recommended to me. He could've easily said that he would do exactly what I asked, but instead he offered me a much more practical and also cheaper route to fix my issue. I was so happy with his work, that I called him a few days later back for some more landscaping work. He and his team were always on time. They did their work neatly, and on time. We used Mario and his team to completely re-landscape our front yard. Before, the front yard had over 50 year old ivy and grass. We told Mario that we wanted a drought tolerant yard using mainly native plants. Total redo. We did not even know what we would find under the dirt since we had not turned on the sprinklers. I should mention that my wife and I work all day, and we needed a team who could work while we were gone. Mario asked us for our budget, which to us was the most important part of the project, and we appreciated. We knew our budget would not light up most landscaper's eyes, but Mario got excited about the things he could do, and where he could save us money. Mario and his team arrived on time every day, cleaned up each day, and were highly professional. Communication was key, and when Mario was looking for plants at nurseries, he would text them to me, and we would discuss. It was nice to be able to see what we were getting while still working each day. Texting also allowed my wife and I to discuss and approve the plants. While digging, the team found that all of our pipes were broken, and they removed everything at not extra cost, and put in a drip line to the existing system. The work was done incredibly quickly and efficiently. In the end, I could not be happier with our landscape. Mario took our ideas and thoughts and turned them into exactly what we wanted and more. Our yard transitioned from 50 year old ivy hiding luggage and kids toys from the 50s to a modern, elegant, and environmentally friendly fraught tolerant landscape that totally works with the rest of the house. Mario even hooked up the zones to our new smart sprinkler system and sat with me while I set it up. We would highly recommend Mario and his team for anybody's landscape needs. He helped us transform our weedy jungle into a beautiful, hospitable, drought-tolerant backyard with vegetable planters. We collaborated on which plants we wanted, and he understood our vision. He also built a water retention rock garden which was a qualification for the SoCal turf replacement rebate program. He also suggested ways to help us save money to keep to our budget and still attain our original vision. Throughout our project, we had a number of add-ons, and he was fair and consistent with his pricing throughout, updating his estimate so we were on the same page throughout. BUYER BEWARE The Good News is that Mario Torrez is very nice, polite and reliable as it relates to making appointments or keeping them. In our initial talks, Mario had to cancel a meeting and did that well in advance. I really appreciated his advance notice. Now for the RED FLAGS I had 2 separate jobs. I told him I wanted 2 separate estimates backed up by a formal quote. The 1st job involved tearing out a 6' x 82' area of grass and shrubs to be replaced with concrete. A brick wall would also have to be torn out. The estimate Mario came up with was $12,500.00 (a bit high for work) He never addressed The rebar that would be used and when I asked him, he simply said, "yes, yes! That is included. He never discussed how he would deal with the encroachment on my neighbors side of the yard. He wasn't very versed on the process. The last RED FLAG and the biggest was he asked me without a written quote for HALF the money up front so that he could get materials to start the job. I'm thinking, what kind of materials do you need to start a demo??? Everyone knows you should NEVER pay a Contrator for half the work up front, before the job even starts??? The 2nd job was for a drought Tolerant yard. Although he was more versed on this job, he still couldn't answer basic questions like.... Are the prices for materials (gravel, rock and DG) based on TL or Sq. FT/Inches? I ask Mario to share with me a few examples of homes his company had done in the area so I could drive by and look at his work. Mario gave me 1 address to drive by and like I told him, quite frankly I was not impressed. It was pretty sad. I also asked him for samples of the Gravel, Rock and DG. It didn't even match the colors of my home. Mario insisted that was all that was available to him and his company. When I told him I had contacts at another Rock and Gravel yard in Riverside County, Mario indicated that was too far for him to pick up what I liked and I would have to have them deliver the material. He never once offered to lower the price or still, give me the quote in writing. I really wanted Mario to get the business because he was so nice but I could not ignore all the Red Flags. I never did get a detailed Quote of the work for either job. Just txt. Messages. Finally after discussing all of this with my partner, we decided to go with other contractors. We are paying half of $$$$ that Mario estimated for the concrete project and we have used the concrete contractor before. Im not implying that Environmental Landscape is dishonest but I think Mario needs more experience dealing with customers, understanding jobs that he may subcontract out and selling his services. Not sure if he was so busy with other jobs he didn't have time to provide me with an itemized formal quote or what?? I asked several times. Always ask questions and get things in writing and never give a contractor half the money up front. We wish him the best. read more

We needed to get our concrete-paved front yard replaced by landscaping. Finding a landscaper to to do the job was really stressful. People wouldn't call us back, or made it clear they didn't want to do the job, or refused to listen to what we wanted. I was going crazy till I found Environmental Landscape. Wow, what a difference! They got right back to me, sent someone out right away, listened to what we wanted and got back to us quickly with a proposal that was right within our budget. Mario , the owner, even showed up to talk with us on the first day of work. Environmental landscape employees some of the hardest working people you'll ever see. Their crew worked for two days in the heat to get all that concrete out of there. We had some glitches and hiccups along the way, but any time something wasn't right they made it right. Mario was right on top of everything, and made sure everything got done in a proper matter .And we got our nice drought resistant front yard with walkways, river gravel and plants and it's like we got a whole new house. My wife and I are finishing a major home renovation (investment property). We've worked with several contractors, and our experience with Mario and Miguel (brothers team) was OUTSTANDING. My wife and I hired Mario and Miguel to give our backyard a full makeover. The project consisted of: 1) Clearing all grass and weeds from the yard 2) Trenching and adding a sprinkler system 3) Regrading the dirt for proper slope and drainage 4) Demoing a Plywood fence that connected two cement walls 5) Building a new horizontal fence using redwood 6) Building two raised beds for a vegetable garden (with drip system) 7) Laying sod 8) Laying a brick line for a patio 9) Creating a DG (decomposed granite) patio (with proper drainage) The finished product is beautiful. Mario and and Miguel did a great job with the patio and contributed ideas on how best to build the brick line around the DG. We also love our new wall and raised beds. This project was delayed numerous times due to the weather (LA winter storm, which was actually great for the sod), but Mario was always in communication on when we could reschedule and was willing to work weekends and long evenings to make up the lost time. I had a leak coming from one of my sprinklers. Initially, I thought I'd nicked the pipe with my edger, but when Mario came and did some investigating, he discovered that it was actually a faulty pipe much deeper than the regular sprinkler line. He did an amazing job fixing it, especially considering the repair was much more difficult than either of us originally anticipated.
