Sheria was very knowledgeable and I was pleasantly surprised to see my hair begin to regrow so quickly. I was not expecting to see results for about six months and I saw progress much sooner than I expected (please remember hair restoration still takes time and it is important to not expect miracles). Sheria never sent me pictures full pictures that she took during my initial consultation. She only sent me pics of a problem area/scalp condition so I could show my dermatologist, but never pics of my full scalp. I asked for these pics so I could document my journey. Whenever I asked for pics, Sheria would say I was expecting miracles. Not true, I was only trying to document my journey and I actually saw progress sooner than I expected. On my last visit, Sheria finally pulled up my pics on her iPad and let me take pictures of those with my phone. I thanked her for helping me document my progress. The most disturbing part of my experience was not about pictures. It was that I received sores from her treatments. The first time I had a scalp sore, I did not think much of it. This last treatment, I did not know I had another sore until I got home and put up my hair for bed. I am not sure if Sheria noticed the sore, but I will say that all of a sudden before I left she recommended that I put on hydrocortisone ointment on my scalp because my scalp needed healing. This had never been mentioned in the months prior and she even gave me the ointment free of charge. Sheria put the ointment on my scalp before I left. Now I know why. (See pic). I was traveling after my appointment so I did not have the opportunity to tell her about the sore. However, the day after my appointment Sheria abruptly sent me a text long after business hours saying she decided I would be better off at another salon, with no explanation. This was a surprise since I had told her before I left that I was pleased with the regrowth progress I had seen so soon. Also, I was charged different prices for the same hair service. I never questioned her about pricing. I just paid and tipped. I would like to mention that her salon was very clean, which is important to me. However, the one star rating is for her lack of professionalism, poor communication skills, treatments that she mixes herself that are so intense they cause sores, and dropping a client who expressed thanks to her for her services (this was before I found the last sore).

She was ready for my daughter right on the dot for her appointment time and she went straight to prepping. Not only is Aminata sweet, respectful, gentle, professional, and quite fast I might add, but she makes you feel right at home as well. I couldn't have asked for a better stylist! When it came to picking out the colour for the braiding hair, I actually always go with either a #1B or #2 for my daughter, but as the professional Aminata is, she chose a #4 instead, which turned out to be a perfect match. I had no idea! It didn't stop there though. She not only asked for my opinion; she also made sure my daughter was comfortable with the choice as well. I've never seen a stylist ask an 11 year old for a second opinion. Aminata made my daughter feel significant and gave her confidence since she was the one sitting in Aminata's chair. That's EXTREMELY important to me, because my husband and I are raising our kids to know that they matter and they have a voice. We teach our children to speak up and she gave that opportunity to my daughter without me even saying one word about it. Although she's closed today (which made me remember to write a review in the first place), I plan to call tomorrow to book another appointment for my other daughter. I really hope she does locks because my husband wants to start going to her along with my son after hearing about my daughter's experience. This has nothing to do with her as a professional, but I have to speak about her character. We had a long conversation about countless topics. Within those conversations, I've concluded that Aminata has a heart of gold! She's sweet, understanding, patient, aspiring and inspiring, and has the best intentions for our children and humanity as a whole. She spoke with a passion you can't fake. In a world often characterized by its fast-paced nature and the pursuit of personal success, encountering someone with a heart of gold is like finding a rare gem amidst the hustle and bustle. I had to most lovely chat with Kiera (sorry if the spelling is wrong!) and when I explained my "problem", she said she believed Theresa would be my best stylist. WOW!!! I was really blown away by my wonderful experience. First, the sheer size of the space is something I've never seen before in a salon. Next, I hit it off right away with Theresa and we ended up chatting like old friends. She gave me a couple of options of how to "gracefully" grow out the grey. I chose to just go with a super short cut like I've had a few times before. She was 100% accurate on how losing the long hanks of fading red would make the short cut look like I added high- and low-lights on purpose. Well, please look at the photos and you can see how right she was!! Bri did my shampoo and was just lovely to chat with, as well. She checked with me on the water temp and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Theresa was constantly explaining and checking that I really felt OK about losing such long hair - and I kept assuring her I was ready for a big change. Also that since I've had it super short several times in my life, it wasn't going to be a shock. What WAS a shock was how epic it turned out!!! As predicted, the tri-color look was gone completely and it really does look as if I just had tones added to my natural hair. I haven't treated myself in a very long time, and this was a truly wonderful treat for me. Including the shampoo tip (hint: take cash to put in your shampoo person's jar on the counter), it was $74 and worth every penny.

This made booking rather difficult. Therefore, I haven't seen her in a while. Since then, I've either done my own hair or went to a braider. I haven't had my hair braided in many years so I forgot how damaging it can be to your hair. After I took the braids out, I told my self I would start searching for a new hair salon to call home. I've been searching for a few days now and came across Eliz Hair Salon. What drew me to this hair salon was the reviews from women raving about how their hair has been getting healthier and the results were exceptional. Also, the price was reasonable--so I thought I'd give this place a try. My hair: I have very thick, low-porosity hair with varying hair types. It's damaged from braids I got recently and dries out easily. Moisture and conditioning are priorities! Communication: My first line of communication with this salon was when I called today to see what time they took their last client. Although their hours are listed on Google and Yelp, I still wanted to confirm. When I called someone answered and when I asked the time they stop seeing clients, they told me 2:00pm. It was about 1:30pm when I called so I left out as soon as I could. First impression: I made it to the shop about 5-10 minutes after 2pm. To be honest, I wasn't sure if they were going to be petty that I didn't make it to their door by 2pm. When I went inside, they were quite welcoming. They greeted me and had me sign in. I told them I wanted a blow dry and I was guided to the shampoo bowl. They were friendly and service was immediate. Experience: As we approached the shampoo bowl, I asked if I could get a deep condition. As stated before, my hair was dry and damaged. I also had recently removed braids so my hair was also tangled. The lady who washed my hair was so thorough. She washed and conditioned my hair very well. She also massaged my scalp very well. Since I got a deep condition, I say under the dryer for a little while. Then Sukie detangled and rinsed my hair out. She then guided me to a styling chair, moisturized my hair and started blow drying. Throughout the process, she asked me if I was comfortable and if the temperature was ok. I'm very tolerant of hair styling so honestly the process was a lot more gentle than I expected it to be. Past stylists tend to use high heat and can be a little rough getting tangles out. Sukie did a phenomenal job not causing any discomfort or pain. To be honest, I was skeptical of the results because the process was so comfortable. I even started meditating and she thought I was asleep. After the blow-dry, she straightened my hair with a flat iron. When she was a finished, she offered to pin my hair up, since it was drizzling outside. I agreed and then I paid. I never asked about pricing because I already did my due diligence of checking pricing through reviews, their social media posts, etc. So I already knew what I should EXPECT to pay but I wanted to see if they were going to be honest or overcharge me. They charged me exactly what I expected. Final thoughts: I asked if she does children's hair, as well. She said she does. I wasn't just looking for a stylist for myself. I was looking for a stylist for my child, too--but before I allow any stylist to touch my child's hair, I have to test how they treat my hair first. I feel confident enough to say Sukie will be me and my child's new stylist. I'll be recommending her to my friend who's also looking for a new stylist, too. I found my new hair salon! :)
