This was my first time using the Potsdam Enterprise location and things didn't go smoothly. Here's the cliff note version of my experience: Enterprise has fundamental problems with their reservation system. Zac, the Assistant Manager at the Potsdam location, was able to think outside the box to problem solve getting a rental for me so I got to my destination on time. (Full disclosure: it did take persistence to initiate Zac's problem solving, but once on board he did a fantastic job.) Here's the long version of my rental experience: on Tuesday I made an online reservation for a compact car for 9:00am Wednesday morning. I received an email confirmation of my reservation. (If you call to make a reservation, the recording you listen to while on hold tells you the best prices and availability are found online. Instead of waiting on hold, I decided to book the reservation online when I got home later that day.) I didn't schedule a pick up with my reservation as I had arranged a ride to bring me to Potsdam which is about a 40 minute drive from where I was. At 8:00am on Wednesday I received a call from the Potsdam Enterprise office saying they did not have a car for me. I asked them what I should do as it was urgent I travel this morning. They suggested I call the Watertown Enterprise office. I called to see if Watertown had a car available (I looked up the number online and pressed option 2 to make a reservation) and I was told they had a car. But then when I spoke with the Watertown office directly, I was informed they do not have any available cars. ****THE ONLINE RESERVATION SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE AN ACCURATE COUNT OF AVAILABLE CARS FOR LOCATIONS AND NEITHER DOES THE RESERVATION DESK. YOU MUST SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE LOCAL OFFICE WHERE YOU ARE PICKING UP THE CAR TO ENSURE A CAR WILL BE AVAILABLE**** (option 4 when you phone in) At the suggestion of the Watertown office, I called back to the Potsdam office and requested to speak to a manager. It was difficult to get in touch with a manger: he was in a meeting, he wasn't coming in until late morning, the phones don't allow calls to be transferred, I was refused a number to call him directly. Once I was connected to Zac, a manager, it took us a while to get on the same page. I was told there was no car available, period. (And it was my fault because I reserved the car the day before after business hours.) I explained that when I booked the rental there was no indication a car may not be available. If a message had popped up telling me there was the possibility of NO CARS WHATSOEVER being available, I would have made other transportation arrangements. But it all looked good and I received my email confirmation. I checked my confirmation and all the info was correct: I had entered the correct date, time, locations, etc. on the form). How was this my fault? I was willing to drive a distance to get a car and I would take any vehicle that was available--I was willing to use the resources I had to make this work. Now it's getting to be 9:30am and I'm really starting to panic. (I've been on the phone with Enterprise since 8:00am trying to get a car without success--and the ironic part is when you're on hold with Enterprise you hear not only the message about booking online, you hear another message about 'We treat our customers the way they should be treated.' ) My ride starts driving me to Potsdam. Zac calls me back and let's me know he has a possibility: he has an out of state car with expired paperwork. Headquarters overnighted the updated documents, and typically overnighted documents arrive by 10:30am. If the documents arrive, the car is mine for rental. The documents arrived and I was on my way. I'm satisfied with the final outcome (I did get a car and got to where I was going), but am concerned with A) I was told there was no car available even though I had a reservation and confirmation number B) How ok everyone at Enterprise was with knowing I was going to be left stranded C) I don't think I'll ever truly have confidence booking with Enterprise again. Zac was able to turn a half star rating into a 3 star rating, but I really wish things had just gone to plan. read more

Literally the worst car rental company ever. Was planning on a trip to go see my parents (whom I see maybe once every 2-3 years) for christmas. Reserved the car, used my wifes name and license since our bank card is in her name. Going from NY to VA (around 12 hours) for a week. I wanted to pick the car up a few hours early, so I called on the 19th (we were supposed to pick up at noon on the 20th) so they switched the pick up to 10 am on the 20th and dropoff on the 28th at 10 am. They then said well lets get your info in order now, and proceeded to request a proof of residency and also said that since she was under 25 it would cost 125 extra (we filed under her license and got a quote without that extra charge so it was completely unexpected) . However i really wanted to see my parents so i agreed to pay it. Then they wanted a UTILITY bill for proof of residency and wouldnt take anything else ( i even offered to bring our rental agreement and marriage license and everything else under the sun BUT a utility bill as the bills are all in my name). The lady wouldnt accept any of it and said we could do it in my name but i would need a bank card with my name on it. Basically went around in circles because my wifes name is on the bank card and the utility bills are in my name. This is the most dissapointing day for me in a super long time, thanks enterprise. read more

I was in a hurry and actually drove to the shop and picked up the car. I thought the car was dirty both inside and out but didn't have time to have it re-cleaned. The price was OK. I miss the week-end special rate. I'd rent more often if that returned. I have rented from Potsdam many times since mid 2000s and the staff constantly seems to turn over a lot. I want them to keep on record that I don't take ANY of their insurances. I hate their high pressure efforts to sell me insurance I don't want or need. It's uncomfortable. Spend more time providing a clean car. read more

We had a GREAT car rental experience with the staff at this location. They made the process easy and painless. Didn't try to pull any extra charges out of no where. And would 100% use them again as well as recommend them to everyone as I am in the moving truck rental business myself. I am a large and tall man and it took a while, but they found the perfect vehicle. Friendly, fast, efficient, these are the words that best describe Kelvin and his crew! Thank you for everything! I rented a car at the Albany Airport and then decided to leave it in Pottsdamn. I called the Albany office and left messages 2x (1 at the managers desk) to arrange for the 1 way.. No one ever returned my call. Pottsdamn office was not open on Sunday's so I had to wait until Monday. Not very comfortable experience at all read more

I don't know where to begin to describe the incompetence. This is the only car rental place in the area, so the insurance company set up a rental for me while my car was going to be repaired. I made a reservation almost a week prior to pickup, but when I got there, they didn't have a car for me. Apparently, they had made my reservation for the day that I had called. Meanwhile, my car was scheduled to have repairs started the next morning & I needed to take it to the shop that evening. The Enterprise employee said that they MIGHT have one the following day. I asked what I was supposed to do for that night... He did NOT offer any other solutions, he did NOT call is manager for guidance, instead, he proceeded to assist another customer. I went outside to call my husband to try to figure out what to do about the situation. When I re-entered the store, I found that this employee had put my identification, insurance papers, & my credit card on the top of the counter in front of the other customer!!! After they went outside, another customer came in, & he proceeded to wait on her!! I asked if there was a manager I could speak to, & he told me that he was the most senior one there. I left to take my car to the repair shop & I called the Enterprise customer service number on my way. That employee said she would file a formal complaint for me, contact the manager of the store & the regional manager & one of them should contact me that evening. I called back 3 hours later, & spoke to another employee that assured me that she was reserving a car for me for the next day. I called the local office in the morning, & they still wouldn't have a car for me until after 4:00! I got a ride to work & scheduled to have Enterprise to pick me up. When I finally got a car, it was a compact car (not even an intermediate size when I was supposed to get a standard sized vehicle)!!! When I questioned the size, he said that it was the only car available on the lot!! For a company that prides itself on it's customer service, they may want to re-train these employees that I've dealt with throughout this frustrating experience! read more

We had a great experience with Enterprise. Rowen picked me up at my home and was very friendly and courteous. The car they were going to give us was a little too small and I was offered an upgrade at no extra cost. Will definitely use them again. read more

Good job. They picked me up at the Airport in Massena and drove to Potsdam. I was offered an upgrade which was awesome. They were very nice.

Was the claimant for an accident and the body shop that sent me to Enterprise for a car rental. I was assured that I would not be paying anything and everything was through the other guys insurance but they took my debit card information regardless. I was then charged for an extra day of having the rental as my car was still being worked at at the shop. Called multiple times telling them to refund me and talk with the insurance but I was told they would look into it and wasn't contacted again after calling to communicate this 3 times. Eventually I just gave up trying to get my money back. Would not recommend using this company for service as their customer support is very poor read more
