This is an update on a previous bad review for an unscrupulous car rental agency that charged me almost $900 out of pocket for a rental completely paid for by my insurance company. The situation involved a car accident right before a major surgery and my need to rent a car ASAP after a long and stressful day. I was given no paperwork when I picked up the car, and discovered after I returned from the hospital that Enterprise had fraudulently added charges I did not request. When I posted my previous review, a "business manager" from Enterprise responded, asked for more information, and eventually I was relieved to be informed by the local Berkeley office that all the erroneous charges would be dropped. However!--I recently discovered that Citibank reinstated those charges against me. I am shocked that my bank accepted their false paperwork at face value and that Enterprise added insult to injury by going back on their word to me! Stay away from this place, especially if you are old, vulnerable and in shock from an accident! read more

I needed a cargo van for half a day. Enterprise wanted to charge me $320! Plus they are only open 9-1 on Saturday and closed Sunday, so I'd need to return it Monday morning. I called Uhaul and they only charged $20/day plus mileage 1.19/mile. I was sooo relieved. Now I can afford to move my things. Enterprise advertises themselves as a family run business, but its another corporate rip off! read more

They do not like renting to African American people. Do not go here if you are black I had all the required documents and still was refused services. Not because they didnt have any vehicles.. the manager was very very rude and she deserves to be fired and her assistant as well! I they gave me a million excuses on documents and i gave them everything they asked for and they still made up a excuse on a utility bill being outdated. It was from December 2022 its February 2023 and was able to pull up pg& e on my phone. She refused to even talk to me anymore and have the supervisor give me a excuse saying he would be bending the rules. They just rent to a higher class apparently. I was in a bad mood right before Christmas as someone had driven through a Stop sign and into my car leaving me with no other choice but to get a rental. My insurance company sent me to this Enterprise which was a short walk from the body shop working on my car. The staff provided me with a car to drive immediately and I was able to make it to AZ by Christmas to see my family. Another plus was that the drop off took only took 5 min. read more

People there are nice but very understaffed and under stocked for rentals. I'd recommend making reservations first before walking in.

We had a truly horrible experience here and I just saw that others have had similarly bad experiences. I booked a car by phone. When I arrived there was a long line, so I called to verify that the car was reserved and was told it was waiting for me. When I got to the front of the line 30 min. later, they told me that my call had been to the Enterprise Service Center and this branch does not communicate with them, so the Enterprise Service Center has no idea what their inventory actually is when they confirm a car is reserved. I'd had to take a LYFT there. They told me to LYFT to another Enterprise in Richmond and an SUV may be available for $1000 (I'd been quoted $380 by the Enterprise Service Center). I came here because I had an insurance claim. Everyone from the counter to the gentleman checking me in, Sydney were friendly and professional. I told Sydney I was there and am re-injured following an accident. He was patient and even offered to let me test the seats of different cars to which I declined. That gesture enough let me know I was in great hands and he cared. I would definitely recommend Sydney and this Enterprise branch. I'm glad I chose Berkeley. read more

I wish I needed to rent another car right now! Real talk folks, I rent quite a bit of rides. Each time is a pretty mundane, a non welcoming routine. This rental location has really raised the bar! The service here is amazing, really amazing doesn't do it justice. The staff was efficient, extremely friendly, on top of their games, and worked magic like I've never seen. Each person who I was handed off to, to complete my reservation was outstanding to deal with and left me feeling completely satisfied with my purchase. This review is for a wonderful employee named Mel. Started off a weekend to Reno with a truck from an Enterprise at another location. Started our trip from Hayward then about around Emeryville/Berkeley the tire pressure monitors on the truck came on and they were seriously under inflated. Without panicking I conveniently pull of at the nearest gas station in Berkeley, pumped air to all the tires to the recommended pressure. Still, no go with the monitors, still showing under inflated tires. Decided I wasn't gonna go to Reno with me just staring at it the whole way. Google'd the nearest Enterprise and waited about 10 mins for it to open. Mel, the young woman that greeted us was all smiles from start. Told her the situation, and in about 10 mins time we were out of there and back on the road, seriously the most stress-free service ever experienced. Wow! Not only that she swapped out this nasty F-150 the other location did a piss-poor cleaning job on, because of the weed I found in the center console they forgot to clean, but it was Dodge Ram Classic 5.7 Hemi. I wanted to give a rave review in regards to Mel and Ms. Vicky (warm, careful driver who picked me up was sweet, & signals - yay!) at the Berkeley location on San Pablo Avenue. I'm not a frequent customer but I recall the first time the efficiency, warmth and care so I returned. Unfortunately, I don't recall the fellow who helped me then but today, after I dropped off the rental, Mel took care of everything and was so proficient helping me from the beginning when I first got the rental until the end when I brought it back. Felt like she really cared and I was taken care of. Kudos on such a wonderful assistant manager to be hired on this team!  Tank was full, car didn't have fragrances, got a pick of cars between two colors, & car was clean. Person, who sounded male, on Saturday 16th when I called was very nice over the phone too! Picked up quickly. Everyone I've encountered has smiled, acknowledged me even though Mel was helping me. I took my car to the body shop and the insurance give me a rental car from this place, I didn't want the car because I had heard horror histories but I asked 3 times "am I going to be charge " and 3 times the answer was no, so I was feeling brave so I took the car. At the end of everything I got charged $184 and $130, never received a bill like all good thieves are so this company charge the insurance company and it charge me so if you want to know how does it feel to be screw, try enterprise they surely are going to let you know I am not going to email any body, if money is what you want, then enjoy it you horrible people and company read more

BEWARE. Fraudulent behavior. After my car was in an accident, my insurance company provided a car through this office. After my car was repaired and the car returned, they charged my card over $800 even though the car was rented through the insurance company. They also did not email me a receipt or provide justification for the charge. I have tried to communicate with them but they don't pick up their phones. I have had to open a claim on my credit card as well as with the Enterprise national office. If my money is not returned I will be suing them. So much trouble and time. I had a great experience picking up a car here. I was going to be a few hours late to my pickup but when I called they reassured me that a car would still be available. When I showed up, the agent came to door so I wouldn't have to enter the building, which made me feel much safer COVID-wise. On top of that, they gave me a free upgrade to a Ford Mustang! read more

I had excellent service both on my drop off and pickup here. Unfortunately I damaged my rental car, but the employee i worked with to resolve that with was very helpful in how to get it resolved and what steps to take. I've rented a car from this location maybe three times now, and I've been happy with the vehicle each time. I think I had a substitute one time, but it was close enough to my rental (I needed a 4X drive vehicle, and they made sure the replacement was one). I also like that, even though many Covid rules are relaxed, they still did everything outside. read more

Me and this Enterprise Rent-A-Car office have seen each other too many times. Those are the instances when I've had to rent a car when mine was in the shop for a longer I expected. I'm not in a very good mood when that's happened, and I fully appreciated staff's professionalism in getting me on my way in reasonably spirits. And with the dealer discount, it was also a pretty good value. The cars themselves have been nice and my only real complaint is that this Enterprise location's hours are a bit restrictive. That has limited further business when my parents or brother needed a short-term rental when visiting, but they are the first place that I'll call when the opportunity comes up. read more

Who's ever ACTUALLY in charger on this company should call and try and make a reservation at this Berkeley location and see just what a joke it is. I've rented from this place for years. Like literally the years now when you call they tell you they have no cars and they someone will call you back lol. No one calls back....I tired doing that twice. Even when I finally made an reservation the manager called and said "Nope we don't actually have any cars" I have a feeling they don't want to actually have to do any work and rent cars during this pandemic and that's fine but don't lie to people and say you have no cars especially when I live right up the street and can literally see the cars there. The manager accused us of smoking in the car we had rented because he found three individual pieces of tobacco and and a piece of some sort of leaf of a flower which he said was pot. He then charged us $300 (for them to clean it) the piece of Leaf was literally smaller then my pinky nail and it was from flowers not pot. The managers name is aroma. He had a stinky attitude . Possibly he should work amongst more men because he had a obvious dislike of woman attitude. Their charging process was not explained thoroughly and was told I wasn't going to be charged for an addl fee not being paid, then get a call from another staff I never ever met or spoke to and not from the manager I originally spoke to stating I will be charged ........I really could care less who sees this from their location.....when I redirected the person who called I asked him, DEVIN to speak to his manager ,who then turns around and say she asked me to call you .....FOLKS please make sure they explain to you in detail before you SIGN anything so you are charged with additional fees.....i was rented a vehicle comparable to mine and still overcharged and told I wouldn't be...... read more

Very friendly, personable, and helpful. Process was quick and easy, and they had multiple options available for the size and type of car that I was renting (they patiently waited for me to look through all the options and choose one!). Very convenient that they have after-hours drop-off as well. Definitely plan to come back here if I ever need to rent a car again from Berkeley. Tip: Inquire into how much added insurance will cost - they didn't tell me the price per day at first, but it turned out to be very reasonable/definitely worth the cost given the duration of my trip and the number of people I was driving. read more

I really hate that my insurance deals with Enterprise. However, it's a means of transportation to get to work. Here's my story. The boy/girl that works the front desk is horrible. My car was hit and my insurance picked up the first 30 days days. The at fault policy holders insurance took over/responsibility of the the car accident. The at faults party took over the rental. State Farm (the at fault parties insurance) called Enterprise and notified them. State Farm offered to upgrade my vehicle so I called the next day to notify Enterprise I would be upgrading. The boy/girl stated that if I wanted to upgrade I would have to pay another $200.00 deposit. For me that wasn't feasible. Especially, after they already had a $200.00 hold for the current rental. She fasted talked me and I asked to speak to the branch manager. She said "There going to tell you the same thing". I said "That's fine I don't see the need to pay you another $200.00 when you already have a hold on $200.00 for the current rental". She stated that if I wanted to stay in the rental I'm in all they had to do was switch the paperwork. Cool I told her I'll just stay in the current vehicle. She said okay and I hung up. Last week (3 weeks later) I get a call and she is now telling me I have to sign the new paperwork. I was a little irritated because you smart mouth people and fast talk them but couldn't tell me I had paperwork to sign. No biggie. I show up today stood an hour in line for her to say not only do I have to sign paperwork she had to do an inspection of the car and I had to pay another $200.00 deposit for the rental. I became irritated. I don't know if she's slow or what but she always seems to either leave out information or there's a change in what she says. Im telling her it really makes no sense to give you $200.00 when you already have a hold on $200.00. It's going to the same person off of the same card. She says (in front of the whole branch l) "Of you don't have the funds you can always move the money over and come back tomorrow". Like what???!!!! Who's says that?! It's not about the money it makes no sense. Im giving you $400.00 basically until the $200.00 hold comes off. There should be a more logical practical way to deposits that involve insurance companies. There should be a way to switch the deposit to the new contract. To be given the wrong information is very frustrating. I told her when I talked to you, you said if I stay in the current rental there would be no $200.00 deposit. She didn't say anything. Just have a dumb look. I asked for corporates number and she says again "They're going to tell you to pay". I said the problem is you. When I spoke to you you said no extra deposit was needed because I'm staying in the car. I said you fast talk people that you don't take the time to listen or respond with truthful answers. She gave me corporates number. As I walked away she said she was putting a flag on the account and the car would be reported as stolen in 24 hours. Not only that the car was never cleaned. Pieces of weed debris were in the inside door handle. Also the car was most likely broken into prior to me renting it. Broken glass was on the back floor mat. The tire pressure continues to pop up for the front left tire. I can't wait to get my personal vehicle back. I hate Enterprise. read more

So I came to this location had made a reservation two days in advance . When I got there the lady Alejandra told me I was late which I was only 7 minutes late which I thought was a joke but she was serious so I already think she didn't like me. I gave all proper documents and was at the payment stage my card was declined because of a common theft protection which I confirmed with my bank but then was told I could not rent from them anymore because I can't use the same card within 24 hours. That is the dumbest policy ever I should have been warned. There has to be another way I can't be the only costumer this happens to she rudely told me there was nothing she can do there was too many reservations to deal with my issue. Enterprise as a whole needs to fix this issue and Alejandra needs to watch her attitude towards costumers! read more

This Enterprise went above and beyond for us on our wedding weekend. We had extended family come in from all over and need cars fast. We didn't think of reservations at the time, but we took our chance to see if we could get a car/van. Not surprised to know they had nothing in stock, BUT the manager did some digging for us and got us a car, that day, with no reservation! We just had to wait another hour for it to be delivered. That would easily give them 5 stars in my book! But we aren't done yet! My Dad returned the car half-full on gas and the same manager told us not to worry about it! As you know, you're supposed to return the vehicle with the same amount of gas when you first started the rental or you will be hit with some fees. Again, he said not to worry about it and just have a nice day. This Enterprise is definitely the place to go if you want great service and a professional relationship. Kudos! Extremely helpful,my car got broke in, need a car, my insurance arranged for me to go to enterprise. Gave me a confirmation number and told me I could go to any enterprise near me. Except the airport one in Oakland. I work in Oakland, my friend drove me to the enterprise 3030 broadway in Oakland. Got there a woman name Megan was extremely rude made impossible for me to rent a car. She had a answer for everything. I was very frustrated, left the enterprise in Oakland and drove to 1706 enterprise in Berkeley. I walk in, they welcome me with a big smile, no rush or this and that. I told them about my bad experience in Oakland, they made me feel extremely welcome. I am extremely thankful. If I could give them more stars I would. Great customer service. I'm assuming she's the manager the way she handled the crowd. She was answering phones, making calls to get cars and helping customers, talk about multi-tasking! I was getting over the flu and getting ready for a big relo to LA, she was so polite and helpful.
