I…read moretypically always have a good experience renting from Avis, but one time in particular, not at this location, I showed up to the rental location and I realized they had given my reserved rental car to someone else. I didn't know that a reservation had to be timely (I arrived an hour late on a busy weekend), so from that point on, I've always been afraid that I'd show up to get a rental and they wouldn't have my car! Anyway, in preparation to pick up my rental, I figured I would check the reviews of this specific location. I saw all of the negative reviews and it did not calm my anxiety of rental car places one bit. Admittedly, I didn't know if I showed up if this location would even be open with all of the reviews I saw. To my pleasant surprise, I was greeted by Mike in picking up my car this past weekend and Mike quickly tended to my reservation and got me in and out quickly. I got a very nice, clean, newer small SUV. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Mike was on his own and was extremely friendly and helpful. Good customer service goes a long way. It's unfortunate that some have had bad experiences here. I am glad that I had a good experience and I'm happy to leave my review here. I would definitely go back if Mike is working at this location! Took my car in to them to have the AC system serviced, and they damaged my serpentine belt…read moretensioner bolt while replacing the belt and AC compressor. There is obvious evidence of someone wrenching/over torqueing the mounting bolt (as the head was partially rounded), which lead to a stress failure. About a month after the AC service, the tensioner bolt snapped due to the torqueing, and left my car inoperable. When confronted, they claimed "we don't round over bolts here" and that it was fairly common for those bolts to "just break". When I pressed that they were the only shop to ever service my car, and it had to have been them doing something that caused the damage, the owner told me "I'm not going to argue with you. If you've got a problem, take it somewhere else". A hardened mounting bolt doesn't just randomly snap unless it is corroded (which it isn't), or a massive amount of extra stress was suddenly applied to it, like someone wrenching on it. I would've expected some cooperation at least, or for them to offer to at least take a look at what may have happened, but they just defaulted straight away to being fully defensive and standoffish. Customer service is definitely not their specialty. Had I saw some of the other fairly negative reviews, I would have never risked my car by taking it to Hardin's......... Be warned, they are definitely not worth your business.....

The gentleman seemed nice, told me he was going to try to rent his lake house to me but promised he would have cabs available. We called at 12:37 am - he said he would be there in 10 minutes. 15 minutes later, no cab - so we called back. The same nice guy was clearly upset - said he had been waiting and was about to leave. I confirmed our location and he said I was on the wrong side of the building and HUNG UP on me. We walked to the location he told us to and no one was there. I called three more times with no answer. He left 7 girls on a bachelorette party without the ride home he promised. FAIL.

Our tour guide was a retired high school history teacher and football coach with all sorts of interesting stories about the region. We passed Mount Baldy, the "living" sand dune that moves, at Indiana Dunes National Park and made it all the way down to a good view of the Century of Progress homes before making our way back. We also got to hear all about the ship, the Emita II, which is a historic ship from the 1950s, and about how it reached its current home. It was also very cute that Captain Jan had the kids come up and take turns at the wheel on the way back. There is a snack bar on the lower level of the boat, and there are restrooms on board. Free parking is available a little walk away - walk towards the Lighthouse Museum, as the dock is behind there. Definitely a great adventure!
