I…read moretypically always have a good experience renting from Avis, but one time in particular, not at this location, I showed up to the rental location and I realized they had given my reserved rental car to someone else. I didn't know that a reservation had to be timely (I arrived an hour late on a busy weekend), so from that point on, I've always been afraid that I'd show up to get a rental and they wouldn't have my car! Anyway, in preparation to pick up my rental, I figured I would check the reviews of this specific location. I saw all of the negative reviews and it did not calm my anxiety of rental car places one bit. Admittedly, I didn't know if I showed up if this location would even be open with all of the reviews I saw. To my pleasant surprise, I was greeted by Mike in picking up my car this past weekend and Mike quickly tended to my reservation and got me in and out quickly. I got a very nice, clean, newer small SUV. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Mike was on his own and was extremely friendly and helpful. Good customer service goes a long way. It's unfortunate that some have had bad experiences here. I am glad that I had a good experience and I'm happy to leave my review here. I would definitely go back if Mike is working at this location! Took my car in to them to have the AC system serviced, and they damaged my serpentine belt…read moretensioner bolt while replacing the belt and AC compressor. There is obvious evidence of someone wrenching/over torqueing the mounting bolt (as the head was partially rounded), which lead to a stress failure. About a month after the AC service, the tensioner bolt snapped due to the torqueing, and left my car inoperable. When confronted, they claimed "we don't round over bolts here" and that it was fairly common for those bolts to "just break". When I pressed that they were the only shop to ever service my car, and it had to have been them doing something that caused the damage, the owner told me "I'm not going to argue with you. If you've got a problem, take it somewhere else". A hardened mounting bolt doesn't just randomly snap unless it is corroded (which it isn't), or a massive amount of extra stress was suddenly applied to it, like someone wrenching on it. I would've expected some cooperation at least, or for them to offer to at least take a look at what may have happened, but they just defaulted straight away to being fully defensive and standoffish. Customer service is definitely not their specialty. Had I saw some of the other fairly negative reviews, I would have never risked my car by taking it to Hardin's......... Be warned, they are definitely not worth your business.....

I recently was involved in a car accident while traveling home to Chicago from visiting my…read moregirlfriend who lives in Detroit. A little more than halfway home I hit an ice patch and lost control sending me spinning across the highway and ultimately crashing into a fence rendering my vehicle totally useless and unable to go anywhere. I was over 150 miles from home and had no idea what my plan of action would be. I was cold, freaked out and just plain bummed. A tow truck driver from Hartford, MI picked me up and took me to the McDonald's in Hartford where I had no idea how on Earth I would make it home. I called numerous cab companies that told me they were unable to make it to my location due to the inclement weather. I finally called Advance Cab and the dispatcher (Mike) who was very friendly listened to my story and told me he could get a driver out to me but it would probably take 45 minutes to an hour because I was over 30 miles away and the highways were dangerously slippery. While I waited for the taxi I called every rental car place I could find online that was anywhere close to where I was. It was Sunday and they were all closed. I now had a cab on the way and no idea where I would be asking him to take me. I finally found a single rental car place that was open in Kalamazoo, MI which was 50 miles in the opposite direction from where I was starting out. I decided that going here to rent a car would be my only option. I was still a bit shaken from the accident and the thought of driving even further than I thought I would have to was quite daunting. My cab arrived within 35 minutes. When my driver (James) arrived he was as friendly as can be. We started on the road to Kalamazoo and I told James about the crappy day I was having and he could not have been more sympathetic. He looked at me and said "Matt, you have had a rough day man, what would your thoughts be on me taking you all the way home to Chicago?" I knew it would be a little pricey but at this point the idea of not having to drive sounded too good to pass up. James braved the storms of Michigan as well as the un-plowed Indiana roads in what was not an easy drive by any stretch of the imagination. We saw at least 50 car accidents or cars in the ditch by the time we made it back in Illinois. I am grateful to Advance Cab for not only getting me home safely but not asking me to put someone close to me in jeopardy by asking them to endanger themselves to come all the way and pick me up. I was in a terrible spot and Advance Cab not only got me home but did it at a reasonable price. I can never pay them back from what they did for me and I encourage anyone to use this company of they are in the Benton Harbor area. Thank you Advance Cab!! If it wasn't for you I would have slept in a McDonald's in Hartford, MI.

Our tour guide was a retired high school history teacher and football coach with all sorts of interesting stories about the region. We passed Mount Baldy, the "living" sand dune that moves, at Indiana Dunes National Park and made it all the way down to a good view of the Century of Progress homes before making our way back. We also got to hear all about the ship, the Emita II, which is a historic ship from the 1950s, and about how it reached its current home. It was also very cute that Captain Jan had the kids come up and take turns at the wheel on the way back. There is a snack bar on the lower level of the boat, and there are restrooms on board. Free parking is available a little walk away - walk towards the Lighthouse Museum, as the dock is behind there. Definitely a great adventure!
