The process was very complicated because I was dealing with someone else's bonds, and even though it took three people (and 2.5 hrs) to figure it out, it finally got done. As usual, everyone was very pleasant, professional, and helpful, and they apologized profusely and often that it was taking so long. The newbie who entered amounts had a total that didn't match the one I had, so she (and the two others) tried to determine why. My total was correct. For some reason, I didn't mind waiting. Guess I realized my prize for being patient would be the mini-Snickers that was in the little candy jar in front of me. They didn't pretend to know answers or contradict each other, but among the three of them, they finished the task. All I cared about is that everything got done, and no one had an attitude. This particular branch has a drive-up ATM, self-service coin machine (I don't believe they charge a percentage), and an Internet café. Tip: If you're wiring money from one credit union to another, they waive the $15 x 2 transfer fee ($15 at the origin and $15 at the destination). Go figure.

The reason I don't use this place for personal banking is because the cashiers all seem to hate their job, and none know how to smile or schmooze. A simple "Hi, how are you?" would suffice. You can get through to people on the phone and it's a real employee who actually tries to solve your problem not an overseas telecenter reading off a script. Also Middlesex savings bank has much lower fees than I found elsewhere. For example when using the debit card overseas they give you the exact exchange rate unlike many large banks which will gouge you with fees and an exchange rate in their favor. I don't know of any other bank that has such a good rate for overseas charges as just one example. Also they're fairly careful about the security of accounts unlike many large banks.

Fully insured, so your money is never endangered. Personal and business accounts. EVERY service you need: There is a national ATM network, debit/credit/check/ATM card, free checking, unlimited checking transactions, free online banking, check images available, notary, etc etc!! Caring, competent, and nice management - (Nancy and Gertrude). When I wrote a check from the wrong account and overdrew it, I got a nice personal call from the manager letting me know, so I could straighten it out that same day, and avoid any more fees. We now have multiple free checking accounts there (free because I keep $500 in a savings account). We are in the process of moving all accounts from Bank of America, after a few months trial at Northern Bank - they are the winner.
