But she wasn't very helpful, she was a little rude and kept telling everyone what to touch and not to touch. Some were like "what the heck is an escape room?" while others were like "HECK YES!" We did: The Curse of the Black Rose. I have done about a dozen escape rooms by now, all over the country, and LET ME TELL YOU: Escape Gate is one of the best I've ever done. Hands down. I wish they had a location in Orange County so I could take everyone I've ever met! The staff is fantastic, for starters. The game? Freaking amazing. Very well designed, awesome decor, super creepy in the best of ways. This is also the first escape room I've ever done with a live actor and MAN OH MAN did that step it up a major notch! Loved it. DO IT. You'll love it, too. If you don't, well...I'm sorry for you. Seek help. (For the record - we should've escaped WAY sooner but we're FAMILY so we HAD to spend a LOT of time arguing. We were given some back story and basic instructions prior to starting the game. We were not told to leave a second door alone-we found that it was unlocked and led us out of the room. Our group consisted of three adults, a 14 year old boy and 12 year old girl. The kids were able to contribute quite a bit and help their parents figure things out. It definitely was a team effort!

Each one is…read moreunique in that the clues are different, the room setup is themed and you never know just what type of puzzles or challenges you'll have to master to get out. This room started out great-we did the Lair of Lunacy and were appropriately briefed that we would start in the dark and what we specifically needed to "solve" to get out. (I'm purposely leaving out details to not give anything away.) Part way through our time, we came across a clue that was very robust and even had some directions that should have led us to solving that piece. One member of our group spent a ton of time on this one challenge and grew increasingly frustrated with it. He knew how to solve it, but it was not leading anywhere. Another part of the room had a similar clue that looked to be well-thought out and complex, but it never morphed into anything that would help us proceed. We eventually made it out of the room and asked about those two clues. We were told that they were both "red herrings." We believe that they were originally part of the game and that some of the components malfunctioned and they had to remove those clues. You can still get out of the room, obviously, but those items were major time wasters. I understand placing things to add confusion and that not everything leads you to a clue, but these were so complex and "in your face" that I truly believe they were originally part of the game. It's too bad, because what we think they were supposed to do would have been really cool.

Like intense detail, animatronics, sounds, different lighting, just incredible! And the puzzle are fantastic! Nothing was too hard or too easy. Definitely a great room for families because it did have plenty that even younger kids can help with. So much variety in the puzzles and some things were sequential but there was also plenty of puzzles that could happen at the same time so you never felt stuck waiting on any one puzzle. Legit I, Mom, was darting from room to room seeing all the puzzles my young teens and hubby were working on because I didn't want to miss out on any of it!!! We are a family of five, 16,15, 13 year old kids and hubby and I are 42 and 40. The puzzles had just a hint of clue to what they went to so you weren't wasting time trying to make huge leaps to what puzzle went to what lock or next puzzle. But not too obvious that you felt you didn't have to work for it at all. Seriously the perfect balance of difficulty for every puzzle. Our family loves a good challenge but in some escape room companies the leaps of logic are way too obscure and get frustrating. Or with some companies rooms the cool tricky electronic things don't work and it messes up if you can escape and the sequence of things and it's super frustrating. This company clearly loves their rooms and what they do because everything worked seamlessly and the game master was controlling important electronic aspects in real time! I am blown away with how absolutely incredible this whole experience was!!! 100% recommendation it especially for: -families of all ages -teen groups -adult date groups -groups of 4 to even 10 -even date night of 2 with more experienced game room peeps Absolutely a FANTASTIC creative, mind blowing experience nestled here in beautiful UTAH!
