This is a nice little place to just have a cuppa, and the prices are decent too.

And all for a very affordable price :) I sat in the glorious sunshine and basically inhaled a plate of avo, scrambled eggs, feta, softened onions and crispy fired potatoes. With balsamic, because that's how I roll - this plate was worthy of better than mere ketchup! I also indulged in a small but decadent latte, and asked for 'a big water' - so they bought me a nice little jug of tap (which is great, I was nervous they might try the hard sell on bottled - I don't pay for water!). I'd had a chance to eye up the cake counter as I entered, and I could not stop myself from ordering a slice of the lemon meringue pie - it was my favourite dessert as a child and it's been so long since I had some! I was served a HUGE portion, and though it was tasty it just wasn't quite everything I hoped it would be... Probably more my skewed memory than any fault of Ally's Kitchen! The meringue was light as air (but I like mine with more substance), with a lovely browned crisp outer edging. The lemon curd was sweet but still refreshingly tangy, and unfortunately the base was ever so slightly soggy as the lemon filling was quite juicy! I would also say the portion size was a bit unecessary, but who am I to complain about that? I would rather a smaller slice and a smaller price though (£5??) Anyway, overall my experience was delightful - I am hoping to move to the area soon, and will definitely pay another visit or two to this cute, friendly little cafe! My bill totalled £16, including my option to add just over 10% tip. Not bad at all!

This cafe brings you back into the wild, back to nature and the tube stop is about 10 minutes away! The cabin is a homely, welcoming place were you can enjoy true and only vegetarian food, organic and delicious. Their dishes include pasta bakes, curries and shepherd's pie, soups and pate and yummy desserts. Whenever possible some of the ingredients come from the garden just outside! it doesn't get more organic than that! Seating out in the veranda, even when it's raining, is very romantic and intimate. And to top it all off power is supplied via a solar panel. The cabin can also be hired out for parties (children and adults) and meetings, and we had a blast in our offices Christmas party, the owner is a lovely guy that lives there and joined in the fun.

Think composing committees, weekend gardening volunteers, conservation talks, and as many solar panels as there are exposed wood panels. The inside of this cabin-style café is straight out of an Abe Lincoln biography and there's a large patio outside that cries for a few rocking chairs, a porch swing and a Willie Nelson cameo. The menu consisted of veggie favourites, mouth-watering cakes (although it would have been nice to have a gluten-free option or two,) and coffee/tea. Loads of the dishes noted ingredients that were grown on site in the volunteer run garden. Mmmm... crunchy goodness! No matter how far your hippy scale leans, it's rare in a place as big as London to feel completely isolated. If you're ever in the market, Queen's Wood Café is your spot.

Amazing breakfast and brunch/lunch!!…read more Tucked away off the main street, this hidden gem is super cosy and comfortable, perfect for sharing food, coffee and stories with a couple of friends. Fresh, super tasty and lots of rich flavours. We shared the vegetarian breakfast, pancakes with jam and maple syrup as well as the bread selection, all delicious! The cornbread is particularly tasty. Or sit out in the front in the sun. There are brollies in the summer and blankets in the autumn. Pointer - have the tea. Even if you feel like coffee, have the tea! Honestly it's an experience. An olive-wood board with a selection of painstakingly-sourced ingredients : honey, lemongrass, cardamom, fresh mint, cinnamon stick, the list goes on, and a pot of hot water. Yes, you have the option of using the dull little bag of tea leaves you ordered BUT you'll be sacrificing your ingenuity and an opportunity to create a flavour-extravaganza. Throw the bag away, you don't need it! Customers are overwhelmingly mums, grandparents and girlfriends meeting to natter. Recently I sat next to two laptops with people connected to them, but they're a minority.
