BEACH HAVEN/LBI: the weather is still great for a trip to LBI and Engleside Inn is a perfect place to stop for a meal, a fantastic beach view, and you can even stay overnight with your pup! We had fun at The Sand Bar, a seasonal outdoor tiki bar and restaurant with live music and a nice menu. The fried cauliflower is excellent! Pets are allowed to stay at the hotel from the third Monday in September until the second weekend in May. Beach Haven beaches are dog friendly from 9/16-5/14. And the doggy bay beach on Taylor Ave. is confirmed to be open to the pups all-year-round. read more

The Engleside has a great location, is very clean with daily housekeeping services and fresh towels which was fantastic. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. However, the pillows are so awful it was hard to believe. The pillows are small, uneven, and filled with small lumps. My neck was a MESS and it is so unfortunate. read more

We stayed at the Engleside July 14 to the 16th a last-minute trip we booked. It was literally a dirty old motel. They have the audacity after charging us $1500 for two nights. To charge us $100 for two beach badges that were the size of a pin which accidentally my toddler threw out somewhere. Unaware what they were. We've stayed at Montauk yacht club before similar type of style, but at least cleaner and more up-to-date. This place was a ratty motel at best. read more

We've stayed here a bunch of times. Location is great. Make sure you a get an ocean view room. Only room we'd stay in. This is not a four seasons but it's perfect for beach haven. Close enough to walk to just about everything. Here's the issue - the AC works great but is obnoxiously loud and vents onto the balcony. Making half the balcony unusable. Also the hot water is terrible. Over four days, never had a hot shower. It's a real shame because I'd give it five stars but we couldn't get over the noise and lack of hot water. read more

I don't get this place. The food is super expensive while the quality and service both are below average! We went on a "off peak" time and waited quite a bit of time for food and drinks. The server was overwhelmed and kept making mistakes or forgetting what to bring. We got a combo of clams (decent), Salmon (disappointing), sea scallops with angel hair (overcooked pasta and flavorless) and a couple of kids meals (average). Place is really tight so forget about personal space. I get that the place is near the ocean but one and done with this spot. read more

Seated at 8:45pm, food wasn't brought out until about 2 hours later. The food was overall really good, but the drinks were inconsistent - we ordered espresso martinis and the first one was great, but the second one tasted like watered down coffee. I ordered soup and sushi and the sushi was dropped on the floor next to our table. By the time the food had come out, the sushi chefs had left for the night and they couldn't make more to replace the food they dropped so I shared food with the people I was with. Our serve was great and very apologetic for the mishaps, which were out of her control. read more

Need wait staff .. awful Experience ... Tried to be patient but waiter was brutal because he was a bartender who became wait staff ... stressed .. and not pleasant.. here we are celebrating a birthday and afraid to ask for more drinks or bread ... awful paying these prices and feel scared to ask for anything ... feels like eating at a communist place ....use to love this place ... very disappointed to be treated this way ...have to re- think dinning here ... especially for the price you pay... read more

We have stayed here before - and were delighted once again. The service, the atmosphere, the Sand Bar tiki bar, the staff... The only problem we had - we didn't stay long enough :) We didnt stay oceanfront but our room 334 was very good. I think that all rooms have views of the ocean. AND the Restaurant was a fantastic value - great food and the bill was.. lower than we anticipated. Make reservations, this is a busy place off season. Recommended by long time LBI visitors!!! read more

In a word- outstanding! This was our first visit to the Engleside Inn and won't be our last. The menu choices were plentiful and the food was excellent. Our server, Amanda, was one of THE best ever. It's a perfect location for anyone going to the Surflight Theater for a show. Keep up the great job, Engleside! read more

This inn only received 1 star. The ocean is the best feature!!! I don't leave written reviews but considering the amount of money you spend and having a non working toilet for days, I had to leave a far warning for others who look forward to getting away, taking time off of work and those who work hard and expect at least the basic amenities away from home. Book else where.. the surrounding hotels & inns are all equivalent. Safe yourself the headache and enjoy your vacation. Totally disappointed read more

Good food and good service here. I ordered the scallops with pasta and received a generous serving of both. They were cooked perfectly. They took our mid July week-day reservation for the same day. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. I would definitely return - and I can't say that for many of the LBI restaurants. read more

The atmosphere is great here, when you can find a parking space. Don't get your hopes too high if your expecting to see the beach if your at the outside bar. Your view of the ocean is totally blocked by the burms (hills of sand). So unless you think the plants growing out of the burms are really attractive, you will be disappointed. read more

Very nice but not super high end. They allow pet off season. Wish they had elevators for top floors. read more

I want to start by saying our server, Summer, was FANTASTIC! She was sweet, funny, gracious and professional. That being said, the atmosphere is pretty dark, very dated and there's a weird mildew smell to the place ( I get it, it's by the ocean, so that may be just how it is). We started with cocktails, they weren't the greatest, tasted watered down and the mojito had old mint in it, so that wasn't a great way to start. The appetizers ( blackened scallops, clams casino, wasabi scallops and tempura shrimp) were good, nothing to run back there for though. The tempura shrimp smelled " fishy". I can't speak for the other couples entrees, but my husband had Penne Vodka with grilled chicken and it was terrible! The grilled chicken was cold and seemed almost steamed or nuked, and the pasta itself was extremely salty and inedible. I had the flounder francaise which was ok but mushy. The whole thing with one desert, a cappuccino and a plain tea came to a little over $350 with a $100 tip ( because we loved our server!). I don't feel it was worth that and would not go back considering the amount of really good restaurants on the island. We don't mind the prices as long as we're getting great food, unfortunately this place was not it. ( note: we went there because we had a show at Surflight Theater right down the block, and it was convenient to park for both places. There was a food truck festival going on right next to the Engleside, and we kinda wished we'd eaten there instead ‍) Maybe there are better dishes, and possibly we just chose the wrong ones, or maybe it was just an " off " night for the kitchen and bar, I don't know and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt... we just wouldn't go back based on the quality of the food. read more

We came for dinner & had an amazing time! Food and drinks were great. I had peach sangria which was delicious. Oysters were fresh and delicioius. Can't wait to come back!! read more

We used to go here all of the time! I'm not really sure if it's COVID that set them back or what, but my chicken Parmesan was literally hard as a rock, and the sauce on it tasted jarred. Also, our server forgot a lotttt of things. Not a good outside environment. read more

Amazing location. Room was beachfront and clean and spacious. Two restaurants on site. Friendly and helpful staff. Pricing was fair and overall experience was stellar. Walkable to dozens of eating and shopping establishments. We'll be back. read more

Its very sad now a days when a business is popular enough that they DO NOT care about their customers anymore! They messed up my reservation-- I booked or thought I booked over the phone their big room on the first floor with a full kitchen (same room we booked the summer before), but when I called 2 days before my trip to inquire what is in the kitchen, they said thats not the room I have. They basically said too bad. ANd didn't offer me ANYTHING until I complained a lot, and then offered me my money back!! Thats a slap in the face....I booked this vacation with 2 other families, its our one family vacation a year, i have a 2 year old and twins that are 15 months old, i would never have booked that hotel if that specific room (and only one of its kind) wasn't available. I need to be able to cook for my children, we cant go out every meal, i have 3 kids under 2!! I convinced my friends to NOT rent a house and stay at this hotel. They called the manager and got back to me with the same response, I said that is not acceptable and they said they would call me back. Never did. I called the next day to speak to the owner. The owner was "not there" even though they said the day before the owner would be there in the morning, and then he had the front desk girl relay the same message. OFFERED ME NOTHING for ruining my vacation. NOT even a dinner or half off our room or god forbid a free room for the 4 nights. SHAME ON YOU ENGLESIDE. read more

We have a dog and found that Englewood takes pets before the official summer season. The room we stayed in is very clean and modern. It could have been recently renovated. They do think of pets in mind because the room we stayed in had hardwood floors so very easy to clean up just in case our dog went to the bathroom. We stayed in room 104. You can park right in front of the room and entrance to the room is right there. Beach is no more than 100 feet away. You can walk through outdoor bar and restaurant to get to the beach. We will stay here again. read more

My family and I were in town for a wedding. Stayed 3 nights. The first two were ok...nothing really t mention. The room was clean. Third floor suite was ok...I knew there was no elevator ahead of time. We had 3 adults and 2 young children. Night #3, we arrived back from the wedding around 9:30pm. We weren't in the room more than 3-4 minutes when someone from management knocked saying there was a noise complaint from below. I explained (didn't even have time to take my jacket off) that we just got back and she said the people said it was you. I told her it was not us and she said "well I'll just call the police then". We got the kids (3 and 1 yr) ready for bed. We heard banging either next door or downstairs from the living room section of the suite every so often. The local police was knocking but this time next door to us. We opened the door because we thought it was for us, but he said no, sorry. At almost 11pm (the kids now fast asleep, as were two of the adults just dozing), we hear knocking again. It was again the police. The baby now crying since being awakened by the knocking and the 3 yr old now awake. He stated there was a noise complaint from below. I explained that the kids were asleep until he just woke them. He said the party with the complaint said it was us. I explained that i kept hearing banging from the living room area. He did not believe me and said he'll keep coming back. Sunday morning, around 10 am (everyone now checking out in the hotel) there was yet another complaint from the office. My daughter had called me as I was grabbing breakfast. I could not believe it as it was literally mid morning and everyone was packing and checking out. I had small children but there was no running nor screaming. We are very conscientious about others. I am not sure what was going on here this weekend, but know that I will take my business elsewhere. It was very obvious that management tends to not want children or families in the hotel, which is strange, since it is in a family friendly beach town, literally feet from the ocean. Well I'm not actually reviewing the motel, though my family has stayed there when visiting us & said nothing but terrific things about their stay. I'm actually reviewing their restaurant, inside the motel. P H E N O M E N A L food, really tasty. Their seafood is superb, especially the sushi. The last time I went ther, I had scallops over risotto - perfect. It's not inexpensive, but good food isn't - the ambiance is romantic enough, and mostly it's adults there eating. We eat there several times a year, when we want to splurge a little. Highly recommend their restaurant! read more

If you've never been to the Engleside Inn, you may look at it and say, 'This looks like a nice place - it isn't brand new but it looks clean and grounds are well kept.' However, I assure you that you will not be disappointed - once inside, you will see that while the decor is 'simple and clean', you will notice that it is really clean and well maintained. This family owned and operated establishment takes pride in there product and values your opinion - whether to improve upon things or to continue with what is already working. Let them know what works and what isn't. Add to it, the great restaurant - valued by the locals and the tourists alike. Always good. Always well portioned. Always fresh. Plus one of the better sushi establishments in the region. Have stayed several times since 1999 and have never been disappointed since - ever. read more

Great location right on the beach. The restaurant in the hotel is excellent. They also have an outdoor dining area with live music which is fun. The rooms are reasonably current and comfortable. Some things that can be improved are there's nowhere to rinse your feet on the way back from the beach if you are in the detached building, they literally run out of hot water every day at 5, and the AC unit is loud and musty smelling. It would be even better if they could address these issues. read more

1 Star, simply because our server was sweet and attentive. I have never experienced a meal as sad as my husband and I experienced tonight. We did not have high expectations walking in, but this meal left us wishing we had went through the McDonalds drive-through. My husband ordered the french onion soup - it was made with cloudy onion-flavored broth with mushy and rancid undercooked onions underneath a bland piece of white bread with cheese that covered the entire outside of the crock. He had about three bites and was turned off. Our server took this off the check and did not seem phased or surprised at all when we let her know it wasn't good. The sushi roll we ordered was okay but poorly wrapped. It all fell apart. We both ordered the bacon cheeseburger in an attempt to order something simple and safe - it was the worst thing I have ever ate, no exaggeration. The burger was incredibly overcooked and greasy. I thought I would be okay to eat most of it until I got to the center and found MORE of the undercooked "caramelized" disintegrating onions. They did serve a lot of fries with the burger which was a positive note, but I think the chef just felt bad for how bad the burger was and wanted to overcompensate for that. Once we left, my husband nearly threw up in the parking lot. We've both felt nauseous since we dined. read more

I've gotta say, I haven't experienced any of the negative staff attitude that people have written about, but again, I have only stayed here in the off season. It is right on the ocean, the rooms that I reserve are suites, so kitchenette, separate room for me to sleep while the wife, kids and dog have their own place. There are muffins and coffee in the office. You are within walking distance to Murpheys (for supplies and beer/wine) and Buckalew's for tasty seafood. I haven't eaten at the restaurant here, but I have heard it is excellent. Oh, and they allow dogs, which would worry me, but there is a park (Veteran's) across the street where they all poop (and it smells like it too!). Even the pricing is great, stay for 3 days and get the 4th for $25! read more

I was up for Sushi and my friend wanted a couple of drinks. I called The Engleside thinking we would need a reservation. But NO ONE ANSWERED the damn phone. I tried every possible auto attendant extension that might have something to do with eating and never got any answer whatsoever. So we didn't go there. I called around town and found another nice restaurant that had Sushi and we went there and spent a very pleasant 3 hours there. Perhaps someday The Engleside will decide whether they are in business or not. read more

Well, hotel room was clean, priced accordingly and the location is great. I have a weird gripe though. Was leaving the pool area w/ my 16 mo. old toddler who was just out of the water and was kinda aggro-checked to take the towel off him before I left. Kid was freezin. Maybe mellow out on that towel rule, I'm at a beachside hotel not the community pool. Zero interest in keeping your well worn towels, guys. read more

The Engleside Inn definitely has a snotty staff. I think they are also sneaky and underhanded. Several members of my family had been staying there every year for about 15 years. One year when we were checking out, the couple before us asked to have their name put in the book for next year. When it was our turn, we asked if they could also put our names in the book. They said, what book? I couldn't believe it. We had been going for years and never knew of the book. We were told that to make reservations for the following year you had one day in Sept. to call. I guess they only let special guests add their names to the book. With a lot of resistance, they finally allowed us to put our names down. This year we had to cancel our reservations the week before our stay because my aunt had a herniated disc in her back. They refused to return our deposits and reluctantly said that if they were able to fill the rooms we might get lucky and they could return our money. I know plenty of beach hotels that are much more accommodating (including places in the Hamptons) that at least allow you to reschedule for another time. This was not an option either. Best of luck to anyone with an emergency that needs to cancel or reschedule. You could lose a lot of money. read more

We love the Engleside Inn and attempt to get there at least once each summer. I discovered it by accident trying to find a place close to a house being rented by my son's family. Frankly, after spending a good part of the day with the kids at the beach, we looked forward to coming back to relax by the lovely pool (on the beach!) while listening to live music by the great bar. We stayed extra days than planned last year so had to switch rooms, but both were great. We love the 3rd floor overlooking the dunes, but also loved looking out over the pool. The rooms are extremely clean, the linens so fresh. The staff is incredible, very personal and personable, almost unexpected in these times. This is not like a chain. The location is great, the restaurant is totally amazing, I could go on and on. I sent friends there who thanked me like crazy. read more

I was there yesterday, and as always fantastic service! I had the lobster bisque which was wonderful my absolute favorite soup on the island. Goes well with Kendall Jackson just in case anyone wonders. Absolutely delightful. My friends had to sushi and loved it read more

The Staff was amazing. So accommodating to our needs. We needed a place while our roof was being done that would take my 4 month old Boston Terrier and a room that would accommodate my Mom with Alzheimer's. They assigned us room 105 with a full kitchen, no stairs, they let me in to look at the room a week in advance! The housekeeping did a fabulous job. So clean. Everyone was so kind and efficient. The food was fantastic and room service was wonderful. We went in October and lucked out with almost 80 degree weather. Thank you Engleside for making what could have been a difficult task such a pleasant and warm and little vacation for us! And Dublin got to see The Beach and make new Friends! 5 stars all the way! read more

Greetings acquaintances, today I will be writing a review on my visit to this uneventful hotel. So it was a sunny day and a nice day for vacation when I had to decided to stay at the Engleside Inn, me being the unfortunate person I had a terrible time at my stay at the Engleside Hotel. So I have entered the hotel tell and there was an extreme amount of grease on the handle towards the entry bugs All over the place and poop all over the floor from dogs considering its pet friendly!!!!! Stains all over the place and hate to mention but there was a ton of mold *ew. Yea that's right mold!!!!! And also there manager was very rude and unprofessional. Ok, I'm gonna end it there and just tell you not to stay at this horrible hotel. Your welcome for telling you about my stay. I suggest not to stay here. read more
