The crew came out when they scheduled/promised and knocked the deck out of the park. The detail we wanted was done above and beyond. They added a few minor details when items were found and needed altered. The crew cleaned up the workspace very well and made due the area was safe Do not hesitate to use these guys to hire for a deck. They failed in nearly every aspect of this project. What was to be a 5-week job, extended out to 12-weeks when they were fired with a good amount of work not completed, materials paid for not supplied, AND the work that was completed was not that of a professional contractor. They did not have inspections done (even though we were charged for permits). Poor design, poor execution, poor business practices. We are left with hiring someone reputable to almost completely redo the work. There are MULTIPLE FIRE HAZARDS and code violations. I wish I could list it all. We obviously failed to speak up in time to make a difference. We will be pursuing legal action soon against them. We thought we did ample due diligence prior to hiring them. We made a huge mistake. I'd be willing to bet many of their glowing reviews have been paid for. These are not craftsmen, they are hacks. If you do choose to use them, hold back as much money as you can and don't let them 'Take it off the LAST payment'. We were lied to on multiple occasions. Not only did the project escalate to just under $23,000 with the original contractor, but due to ongoing issues and incomplete or unsatisfactory work, we were forced to hire additional contractors, bringing the total cost to $30,000 plus. Throughout the process, there was a clear lack of transparency in pricing, poor project management, and a failure to set realistic expectations. Costs continued to rise without adequate explanation or justification, leaving us feeling misled and frustrated. Even more concerning was the quality and completeness of the work, which ultimately did not meet acceptable standards and required further intervention at our own expense. The one leading the project had no business in doing so. She was consistently rude, unprofessional, and showed a clear lack of understanding of what she was doing. After numerous conversations and items missed during the quote and/or left out and then overcharges for her mistake, instead of providing guidance or solutions, interactions were frustrating and unproductive, which only made an already bad situation worse. There was no competence or accountability, just further confusion and poor communication. A project of this scale should be handled with professionalism, clear communication, and accountability. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short on all fronts. What should have been a manageable replacement project turned into a prolonged, stressful, and unnecessarily expensive ordeal and anyone who has viewed our replacement their jaws have dropped. It's embarrassing to say the least. I will leave you with this, the owner Jim, who was wonderful and who we spoke to (finally towards the end) offered to tear it down and replace after all was said and done, but unfortunately, he was getting ready to retire and he had nothing to do with the initial scope and project and were afraid it might be even worse so we chose to go with another contractor. For him to say that - - you know it's bad... I would like to start all over and never use them but obviously that is not an option at this point. The Magicians of Home Repair: How Alexander Contracting Saved Our 30-Year-Old Home…read more I don't even know how to share the stellar, stellar experience I had with Alexander Contracting in a way that will even remotely do them justice. I suppose I'll start at the very beginning. Our residence was severely impacted by the crazy winter weather. Due to the cold and snow, we had an ice dam. Up until this point, we were very fortunate to not need major house repairs. The residence is over thirty years old and for the most part has been well kept. That changed when the ice storms hit. The inside of our home became an Ohio version of Niagara Falls which had me getting rather impressive cardio running back and forth with pots, buckets and towels in vain. It was literally trying to catch a waterfall pouring into our home. The ceiling cracked open, the walls were suddenly cracking, the baseboards in numerous rooms throughout the house. it had the look of Pre-Armageddon. Once the mitigation finished removing the damage and drying everything up, there were holes everywhere, missing baseboard pieces, it basically resembled a crack house. At this point, I began doing homework. People warned me to be very leery with who I let into the home, the trustworthiness of the repair crew, jobs being started and then left in the middle. I've seen enough Rob Wolchek to know this was a problem. Added to that, there are vulnerable people in the residence, so I was admittedly freaked out. One of the first listings for contractors I came across after a Google search was Alexander Contracting. They had nearly all 5 star reviews on Google and Thumbtack so I gave them a call. I spoke with Paul and he said he would come and assess what needed to be done. Within minutes of meeting Paul, I calmed down instantly. Not only did he take the time to patiently answer the 20,000 questions I peppered him with, but he was very honest and explanatory giving me advice on what to do even if we decided not to use his company. As in, he had no skin in the game but was giving us advice as people very new to this process just to help us out even if we didn't use him. In the end, we went with Alexander Contracting and boy oh boy oh boy was that the best decision ever. They began doing work immediately. The two men who did the majority of the work, Sasha and Vasili were INCREDIBLE. They never stopped working. It was like watching Boxer from the book Animal Farm. We begged them to take food, drink and that it was okay to use the bathroom lol. Despite not having the leftover baseboards from the mitigation crew, they somehow like the magicians that they are, Paul found perfect replacements. The fellows fixed all the holes and cracks and got the paint colors down beautifully. Don't even get me started on the ceiling design. Our ceiling has a décor that's over thirty years old. These fellows were able to recreate the ceiling pattern PERFECTLY. Are they construction guys? Are they artists? You be the judge. Some of the wallpaper due to the repairs needed to be replaced. We had nooo idea what to look for and there was no chance in hell wallpaper from over 30 years ago would be found. Alexander Contracting did everything! They found STUNNING wallpaper for us to complement the home and we couldn't be happier. Walking through the home now, you not only wouldn't know there was a ginormous leak, but the work they did beautified our awesome place even more. They are truly the 'invisible' pros. They treated our home with such care, keeping their staging area in the garage tidy and cleaning up after themselves so thoroughly that the only evidence of their presence was the beautiful repairs they left behind. Thank you Sasha and Vasili for the incredible job you did in our home, the perfection and detail you put into the crazy long hours you spent repairing our home barely taking a break. Thank you Fady for being so kind, patient and reassuring to me and my family and last but not least to Paul.
