My doctor gave me a prescription to come to EngAge. It doesn't give me reduced rates, but it's good to have your doc's approval for your safety before making a big change in exercise level. This fitness venue is affiliated with UNMC and Home Instead. It's apparently Omaha's only medically supervised, whole-person wellness facility. My first visit entailed going over my medical history and some physical testing to discover my abilities and limitations. I had proof that my balance needs work, but there are classes that can help me with that. There are quite a few other classes too, including yoga and line dancing. The fitness professionals set me up with a beginner program using exercise machines. They helped me figure out what settings to use on the machines, which are all pneumatic. I have a chart which shows the settings, reps, and sets so I can keep track of my progress each time and make changes or additions as I progress. I feel comfortable working out here because I only see seniors like me, although I don't know if there are age requirements except being over 19. I'm on a trial membership for a month and after that I can sign up for a regular membership at a very reasonable rate. People looking to check it out can come for free on the first Friday of each month. read more
