Update from my review over 2 years ago:…read more I originally left a 5-star review a couple of years ago, and I'm back to say it still stands -- if not more so! TitanUp Fitness is the kind of gym you Want to stay at, not just try for a day or a week. I've been training here for about three years now, and it's easily the most consistent I've ever been with strength training. The trainers genuinely care about form, progress, and safety -- not just rushing you through a workout. Whether you're newer to lifting or have experience, you're coached in a way that actually helps you get stronger and more confident. The community here is another huge reason I keep coming back. Everyone shows up to work, but it never feels intimidating or cliquey. It's motivating without being overwhelming, which is hard to find in a strength-focused gym. If you're looking for real coaching, solid programming, and a gym that actually makes you want to stay consistent long-term, TitanUp delivers - that's it; plain and simple.

One of the things I love to do when on a mini-vacation here on the the Island, besides spend my…read moretime listening to jazz on the beach, is EAT! - of course. But with all that eating, comes those ubiquitous calories. They always manage to find a place on my belly, ass, and back. So in an effort to burn these calories, we like to keep active. While it can be more challenging on vacation than everyday to workout, we kneeled before Zod and swore an oath to exercise even while on vacation. Our normal routine varies. We have several DVDs that we use, an elliptical, and a treadmill in the garage. I scoped out local places where we might just go and have access to everything we need. I found it at Club 14 Fitness. The price for a temporary membership was extremely reasonable for the wife and me. The process to set up a visitor membership is so easy on their website as well. So I setup everything and very shortly after I set everything up, I get an email from the owner, Rae, offering to meet us at the gym to show us around as it was not staffed at that moment. I then confessed that it wouldn't be for another month and a half before we were in town. Yup, we are planners, or maybe more to the truth, I just couldn't wait to get to the daggone beach! I had email correspondence with Rae several times before arriving. I asked about the classes that they offered. I just printed the schedule from their website and looked it over. I was wondering how much it was per class. Yeah, no... the classes were included in the more than fair temporary membership fee. Okay! So the gym is a brisk walk, bike ride, or jog, from where we stay when we are on the Island, but we drove because we are lazy. The facility is not huge, but extremely accommodating. AND IT IS CLEAN! There are plenty of resistance machines, along with cardio machines, free weights, and an area with heavy bags, kettlebells, and other miscellaneous gear. The locker rooms are super clean and complete with sauna. This place is truly full service. The wife took several classes and loved them all. The clientele is pretty diverse, ranging from a few muscle-heads to retirees. Despite the traffic in the gym during busy times, courtesy is prevalent, staff are omnipresent, machines get wiped down by patrons when finished, and your smoothies are made fresh. We will be back next year, for sure.

Talk about a weird place to work out. This combined with her signs all over the gym, not to take the towels. (Gross - like who wants to take the nasty towels that are 15 years old.). On top of that several of my friends and I discovered that she was charging a maintenance fee unbeknownst to any of the members. She had the members' credit card information, and she was going to charge it no matter what, without even telling people. And when friends of ours brought it to her attention, she got completely argumentative, even though she was completely caught in her tangled, web of lies and deceit. I would not recommend this gym to anyone relocating to Fernandina. There are many better options without all the drama.

Any of you that might follow me for reviews would know that I don't review places that aren't…read morerestaurants or cafes. It just isn't my shtick. However, that Amy has made a gym is such an excellent caliber that I'm breaking my rule. This is literally the first review I have ever written on google for none food or coffee related establishment. I've been to several great gyms in my "fitness journey" but there really is something extraordinary about what Amy has put together here. First off, Amy is ridiculously exceptional and the technical pieces of Crossfit. The level that she can break a movement down, and coach a person through it is top-tier. She, and all of the coaches, also do a remarkable job of making sure everyone gets attention. One of the ways she does this is by limiting class sizes to a manageable number of members. You will NEVER make it through a class without a coach coming by to evaluate your form and give you pointers on how you can improve. It's really this level of personal attention and attention to excellence that sets Salt de Terre apart from other gyms. On top of the day-to-day WODs, Amy also puts a lot of effort into hosting clinics for specific movements and areas of the body. I've been to a Jump-Rope-Clinic and a few mobility clinics, and I honestly don't really get the chance to go to many. Amy, again, takes it to the next level though. After any clinic you can expect to see pieces of the clinic incorporated into the warm ups of the next classes. She doesn't just present the information to her members, she incorporates it into her style, into the coaching mentality of the gym. And all this was before COVID. To say I've been blown away my Salt de Terre's response to this would be an understatement. First Amy reduced class sized and had people disinfecting stuff. Then when the gym had to close, she didn't miss a beat. She loaned out gym equipment to the members and were almost immediately hosting online Zoom workouts multiple times a day. Then she added yoga classes (hosted by some of the gym members that teach yoga), and then a mental health clinic, and then weekend get together events (baking, make-up, murder mystery, etc). While I can't imaged the effort this took, you would think she had already prepared for it. That's how seamless it felt. I honestly can't recommend Salt de Terre, Amy, and the staff there enough. If you like Crossfit style workouts (no AC, lots of movement, and no treadmills) that you will absolutely love Salt de Terre. And as much as I hope you don't steal my gym spot, I really do hope you check it out. Let's be real, there are thousands of gyms in the city and most of them have the same equipment. You don't go to a gym because of the equipment, you go because of the coaching (at least you should). And Amy is one of the best coaches I have ever had, and she's one of the best coaches you can ever have too.
