We bought our late 90s built home in 2012, and it only had a standard (at the time) 6-inches of…read morepink BATT insulation in the attic. So, our furnace has been working harder and more frequently to keep the house adequately heated for the past several winters. We finally got fed up of this lack of additional barrier between us and the cold outside. I was inspired by Consumers Energy offering a rebate check when insulation is upgraded by an approved vendor. I found AEE as the only Gold-star rated, licensed and insured installer in my area and approved by Consumers Energy. They earned their stars and stripes. I set up a free quote with the straight to the point and knowledgeable company owner, John. He explained his recommendations for adding about 11-12in.of fiberglass/wool blend blow-in insulation into the entire attic for a total of 17-18in., as well as having his field manager and caulk expert Mark seal all our windows and doors. He left me with a competitive quote and let me take long as I wanted to think on it and get other quotes. After a few quotes - my gut instinct gravitated me to AEE. I wanted to 'Art of the Deal' a bit with John to bring his quote closer to another competitor's. He was fair in working with me. We struck a deal. His 2-man insulation team came to our home around 10am and worked until about 4-5pm thoroughly insulating my attic. His field manager and caulking expert Mark did a great job sealing all the windows and doors for air leaks in a matter of 1-2 hours tops. They went above and beyond my expectations and were honest fellows. At one point when they realized they slightly undershot the amount of product needed for the job - they went and got more product to complete the job. John was a man of his word - he honored the contract without trying to work in the marginal unforeseen product and labor. They were thoughtful enough to blow some extra insulation into the space above our toddler's bedroom - which is definitely the problem area with our climate control. The workers used slip covers on their shoes and used towels to keep hoses from damaging walls. They vacuumed and cleared all waste after their work. Fast forward a week, and I will tell you that this was one of the best upgrades we have done for our home. The disparity in climate and cold drafts in different areas of our home is way better now. Upstairs is improved, the den stays toastier now, and the kitchen side of our house now holds heat better. A marked difference in the radiant heat comfort throughout the house. It is no placebo effect. The furnace is able to drive the temp up quicker, then the temp holds better and drops slower. So the furnace does not have to stay on as long of duration, and the interim between it firing up has increased. Savings on gas, and less wear and tear on the furnace too! Wish I had done this back when we bought the home. Better late than never. Highly recommend AEE. Just follow the simple steps I detailed above, get the work done, and get that rebate. You will have a top notch upgrade, at a great bottom line price. Two thumbs up!

I had an extensive energy audit performed, indoor air quality check, insulation installed, window caulking, rim joist seal/insulation, thermometer replacement, and various other home improvements. This was after the cost vs. benefit was explained to me with the supporting data. Once everything was completed, they walked me through the utility company rebate and tax credit process to ensure I received the full benefit of all work performed. Ultimately, I made money from the inspection and walked away with a house that was significantly more energy efficient with lower utility bills. It's a shame that it's so rare to find great companies with great people nowadays. AEE (John and Mark in particular) were super professional, friendly, polite, and extremely knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure working with them and I was able to learn quite a bit. These guys are not your typical salesmen, they are subject matter experts and come with only the highest of recommendation from me!

My mom had no advance notice, no ability to use her stove or microwave, and her heat was disrupted for several hours on a very cold snowy "feels like" temperature in the single digits. My mom is an elderly woman who was unable to go out in the snow to question what was going on. Moreover, she should not have been placed in this situation. Finally, the workers took away wood that my mom had purchased for landscaping purposes. All of this occurred with no communication or even notification to the homeowner- my mom. I am beyond frustrated and appalled that these actions took place. UPDATE: The next day, the trucks were outside my mom's property once again. Since I was there, I ventured out through the snow to ask them about their plans and whether they would once again be cutting off electricity. The person I spoke with was very pleasant and promised to check on the plans. He kept his word and shortly thereafter knocked on my mom's door to advise that they would once again be turning off electricity for 2-3 hours. At least this time we had notice - even though I had to seek it out. My mom was prepared and it was less surprising than the previous day. I still think that Management should have provided advance notice of the electricity interruption but appreciated the helpful information from the worker who was on the job site. Because of him, I am upgrading one star, and yet believe Management needs to do a better job of keeping residents informed.

Leo blamed it on our old house. Later that day we discovered a crack in the frame of the back door, called them, Brandi promised they would come back out on Friday. We waited all day, nobody came. Then they didn't respond to calls or emails, so 2 weeks later we got BBB involved. Since then they made several appointments with us and never showed up. By the end of december they told us they got a replacement door from Jeld Wen and somebody comes on dec 26th or 27th to do the work. Nobody showed up, again, and an automated email from Greenfit told us they are on vacation until january 3rd. Finally on january 9th they sent a subcontactor out to fix the mess, but Greenfit didn't bring the replacement door out, because they can't get into their trailer......one excuse after the other! He told me about the products he installed, and the important relationship of insulation to ventilation. He found that I had insulation behind the exterior walls, so did not try to sell me insulation for the walls that I did not need. He was not a high pressure sales guy like the other insulation companies. Used the same products as the others, offered the same warranties and guaranties, all for a VERY reasonable price. (The big companies that just send out the fast talking sales guys were THOUSANDS more expensive than Accurate's quote). The first thing they did when they showed up to do the work was put down drop clothes anywhere they would be walking. They placed baffles in every run, they re positioned numerous old bats of insulation that were left in the attic, and used the same cellulose insulation (Applegate) that the big companies use. They added a long run of ridge venting, and ventilated the garage. And they placed visible depth gauges in the attic to show how thick the cellulose was. Great service and they delivered what they promised. Very happy with their service and product!

The last few winters and sub zero temps made my mother's home very uncomfortable, and caused her utility bills skyrocket over $400 per month! I knew we had to do something because my mother can't handle the cold, or the shocks to her bank account. However, the thought of having her deal with a bunch of contractors to price out furnaces and insulation seemed like a bad idea. After my mother received an add in her bill from Consumers Energy, I called in and the utility referred me to a handful of contractors. We set up appointments for when I would be in town visiting, and after talking to a number of contractors, Green Home Energy seemed to be the most friendly and knowledgable with competitive pricing. We met with the owner, Mark, who was extremely professional, kind, and helpful throughout the entire process. He priced out insulation in the attic, spray foam in the basement, and a new furnace. He was also able to finance the entire package through the Michigan Saves program, and was also able to get us a $1,100 rebate from Consumers Energy! The install crew was friendly, according to my mom, and they left the place spotless. My mother's place has been significantly cooler this summer, and we can't wait for the winter and cold weather to arrive to see the final result!
