What an adorable place, I've never been in a Mexican restaurant that was more beautifully decorated than this one. The help is always right on it ready to serve you, friendly and kind. But their food is a huge fail. I've had nothing but disappointment with whatever I order. Twice I've gotten the taco salad just to see if it was a fluke and both times it has been very watery (like they didn't dry the lettuce). They also don't give you much with your taco salad except the beef/chicken and lettuce. Everywhere else I've eaten this salad they serve chopped tomato, guacamole, shredded cheese and sour cream. I ordered a Speedy Gonzales to go (lunch special). It was great!!! I love how it tasted not too salty like the way some restaurants made their food. The amount of cheese was balanced with tortilla! This is my 5th time here. I thought I already left a review but I guess not. This place is amazing. The wait staff is wonderful, professional and personable. Our waiter,Dylan, is very attentive. And to be fair to the rest of the staff, they are all great and attentive. The decor is colorful and beautiful ! I forgot to post this review and has since been here many times. I actually thought this place was pretty good. Its nice to see a business thrive in what used to be Crane Alley. They redid the inside and the place looks awesome! Nice and clean! As for the food, I found my Mole Enchiladas to be excellent. Good size as well! I am a little surprised that it only came with rice OR beans (not both). We also got the Guac which was also excellent, but a little bit on the smaller side for what I expected for the price. I wonder if avocados are hard to come by in Urbana? I got the giant margarita as well. It was pretty good, but pretty standard as well. The service was actually pretty good, but they originally gave us a server that only spoke Spanish. He was polite and we tried, but another server had to swoop in and take the drinks and food order. Will we be back? Probably. I am just worried that there are way too many Mexican restaurants in Champaign Urbana. While the twin towns have alot more variety than when I went to U of I, they were never short on great Mexican restaurants. I would give this one a slight edge because its in Urbana (so you get to see that) and its probably the cleanest Mexican restaurant in the area. I've had a chance to eat here several times in the last month with different groups of people. Most recently I came with my family and my kids (4.8.10) loves the variety on the kids menu and the portions! (Shrimp poppers, taco and chicken nachos were our kids menu choices) My husband got the poblano chicken and almost cleaned off his plate (saved enough for lunch the next day) and I got the seafood enchiladas (shrimp and tilapia/crab). The service was swift and accurate. I used to come here when it was the previous establishment- there are little remnants left and Encanto shines beautifully in that space. Previously I dined here w a bandmate and a coworker on another occasion. The margaritas are delicious! I had the Arroz Chaufa (basically fried rice) and Chile relleno- both were great! read more

This is a Mexican restaurant in downtown Urbana. Free Parking isn't the best in this area for that reason but there's plenty of paid parking. I tried a few dishes before I gave this review so that I can give an accurate review. First off, I'd like to say as a Peruvian I am happy Champaign-Urbana has Peruvian food thanks to this place even if it's just a few dishes. Very spacious restaurant, nice decor, very reasonable prices, good servings, attentive service. Now with the food: Mexican food Champaign has a lot of Mexican restaurant but not many are authentic. This place is more authentic than a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area. The Mexican food is good. I'd put it above other restaurants in the Champaign. What surprised me was how good their street tacos were. Their Al pastor tacos were some of the best I've had. They are bigger and just as good as the ones from many food trucks around town. Their fish is also a lot better than many other places around town. In my opinion I put this restaurant up there with maize in my fav restaurants in Champaign. Peruvian food: The closest place anyone can try Peruvian food is in Chicago, but now this place gives you a taste of peru! We tried their lomo saltado, ají de gallina, arroz chaufa and arroz con mariscos. Everything was good and surprisingly it tasted authentic! Deff as good as the restaurants in Chicago and even some Peruvian restaurants in Peru. I recommend their ají de gallina, their arroz con mariscos was also excellent! The lomo saltado was also very good! Although Lomo saltado usually has thicker meat and is sautéed a little more but the taste was still good! Every Peruvian dish was amazing and I recommend people to try Peruvian food. Props to the chef! This is deff one of my new favorites restaurants in town. read more

Food was fantastic! I ordered 3 separate tacos. I sampled a piece of meat from each one, before deciding to add salsa or hot sauce. The meat was really tender. The lengua was melt in your mouth good. Salsa was fresh, but needed a little heat. Our meal was quick to the table, and our server was on top of it, refilling our glasses. The inside was nice, and they also have outdoor seating. read more

Bad service. Definitely not a busy night. A very long wait for server to get to us. Then he did not speak English so we couldn't get answers about the menu. Then an equally long wait to get our order. Our, just 2 of us, no special order or request; fajitas and Carne Masada was cooked to death. Everything was mushy and not hot; even fajita vegetables were similar to a casserole. Will never go back. A Mexican restaurant should be able to make edible Mexican food. read more

Today I am one of the harshest reviews I have written in recent days. This is because Encanto Restaurant and Bar is fooling its customers in the name of serving vegetarian food. This is NOT acceptable and I would advocate for removing their license as they have been marketing under the wrong umbrella. I was recently served with food that contains ingredients containing beef and chicken byproducts under the vegetarian menu. I asked the key folks in the restaurant to discuss the ingredient list of their Rice, tacos, and burritos. They clearly stated their rice is cooked with beef and chicken broth. I even checked if they serve different rice under the vegetarian section of their menu. However, it turns out they do not. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, and if you have consumed in this restaurant, then I am sorry. You have been lied to and fooled and you were forced to consume food beyond your diet and religious considerations even without your notice because of the deception the owners made. What is surprising is that the key folks in the restaurant are fully aware of this and they are okay with it. The lesson I learned that day is - all items on their menu are not vegan or vegetarian-friendly. Given this, there is no better way to advocate for the removal of their license as they are openly betraying their customers on their face by STARTING a bad practice in the restaurant business. read more

Enormous portions. You'll have leftovers for sure or you can easily share a meal between two people. My son had the burrito emmolado - he had never had mole before so he wasn't crazy about it but it was very large and filled with lots of great things. I had a few bites and was impressed. I had the Peruvian lomo Saltado which again, could easily feed a few. It was a plate piled HIGH with rice, egg, grilled beef and veggies, plus an entire plantain and fries (?!). The fries were really unnecessary but tasted great because it was buried under the grilled meat and veggies. It soaked up all the juices and yummy. My suggestion would be to offer a choice between the fries and rice.... And maybe just a few slices of plantain.... It was a lot to take in. My daughter ordered the kids nachos which was just chips, cheese sauce and ground beef. Some veggies would've been nice. My husband ordered the Chile rellenos which he said was excellent but too much. We had lots to take home. An excellent outing and lots of food for the price. read more

Wow talk about a great first impression, the restaurant is much larger than you'd expect with two levels great for large gatherings, and it's covered in beautiful paintings. The service was great and the food was not only on our table quickly but tasted as if were made with care, absolutely delicious. The bar nice as well, and they had very tasty margaritas.
