Had dinner with friends and the meal was pretty good but the chips and salsa were something else, the chips were mixed with old batches and some of them tasted rancid and it was so hot inside that the salsa and guacamole were turning brown in the bowl and on the plates it wasn't very appealing we mentioned this to the staff and they said it couldn't be changed. Personally I don't like to sweat while eating that's why we go out. I will spend my money elsewhere. Harder to get to Mexican restaurant out of the way a bit. It's a ways from the busy parts of Urbana. Casa Del Mar has good drinks and food. Opens kind of early for some Mexican. That means you can go earlier and get your party on, for sure. After having breakfast, it was time for lunch. It was still early but this place was already open. There were already a few customers before us. Kind of a ways to get to from the main stuff close to the college crap. We each got a Lime Margarita. It's about $5 for a regular, which was still a good amount. This was not too salty but it was pretty strong. Food isn't authentic but not complaining. We got the Three Veggie Tacos. It's about $9 and these come loaded. Lots of avocados, tomatoes, and more. Filling. This was a good lunch. Come here for some Americanized yet good Mexican food. It's pretty okay prices. The service is top-notch. I didn't have to wait to be seated and was brought water, chips and salsa right away. It took little time to receive my order, which was attractively presented. However, the food was mediocre. The salsa is not fresh, but canned. The chicken in my burito was tough and stringy. It tasted like it had been in the fridge a while after cooking. The sauces were fairly flavorless. When I received the bill, there was an unexpected charge for using a credit card. Since I wanted to pay cash, I had to ask the server for a new bill, taking extra time. I tipped well for the good service, but I'm not sure I would go back because of the food quality. read more

What is about this restaurant that they just have it going on. From the moment you walk in, they let you sit where you are most comfortable. The help is always plentiful, friendly and competent. They pay attention to you and are happy to bring more chips and salsa and drinks. The food, well I've never had one complaint about anything I've ever eaten there. It's simply a favorite place to meet a friend for lunch or dinner. It's usually quiet enough to carry on a conversation. I find is super rare to eat out these day, and if I choose to go out to eat, I always like to make sure there is adequate outdoor seating and social distancing. I did some research and came across Casa Del Mar since I read several reviews saying their outdoor seating is great. Good thing I came here because their patio seating and outdoor seating options are great! It was a little chilly outside, but the view from our table was nice and we were seated under the tent. Nice little place! I went on a Wednesday and they had $9.99 pitchers of margaritas! I got the banana because I tried one somewhere else and it was not as good. It tasted like a lime one with a little bit of a banana flavor. I loved the pitcher size though. One was good enough for me. I'm sure it was supposed to be shared because he asked if I wanted cups lol, but I was like "Nah, I'm good! Just two straws please!" Definitely a good spot for margaritas! I also tried their California fries, which is steak and queso on top of the fries.. it was yummy! I've been here a couple of times and I'm impressed! It has all of your regular Mexican restaurant fixings but with a fair amount of seafood dishes that I haven't tried anywhere else. In terms of their regular dishes, they are good, but you gotta go for the seafood. I get a plate that is called Ballarta plate which is a seafood mix over rice and topped with a cheese sauce, so good! They use large and quality shrimp, although the crab meat is imitation. I imagine this is to keep the prices reasonable as most plates are under $15. The service is always friendly and inviting. The location is large and they can accommodate for large groups. read more

Located next to a beautiful lake and walking path, Casa del Mar is a little bit of a drive if you're not in East Urbana, but it's well worth the drive. We were seated immediately and the wait staff was excellent. Our table was visited frequently (but not too much), and we really felt cared for. The chips and salsa were just average, about the same quality as any Mexican restaurant. I ordered the Hawaiian fajitas, and my goodness, they were phenomenal. It was one of the more price items on the menu (which was still really reasonable), but they made up for it in portion size and flavor. The pineapple was fresh, the chorizo was delicious, and by the end of the meal, I couldn't have eaten another bite. Between the food, the decor, and the excellent staff, Casa del Mar is an Urbana must. I look forward to my next visit when I'm back in town. read more

We usually dine in but we're just exhausted from the week. Their takeout is just as killer as their dine experience. The food is quick and always delicious. Our kids are picky and will only eat ground beef tacos with cheese. But then they have amazing seafood dishes like my fave, Arroz con Mariscos- always a nice helping of shrimp and scallops. My friend had casa del mar seafood dish which is tilapia, shrimp, rice, and veggies. Best fajitas I have had ever. Five stars on flavor, portion, and presentation. Yum, yum, yum...so good can't wait to try some of their other dishes as well. My friend also loved his food. However we didn't care for their chips and salsa. The food taste good, very similar to el Toro. It's not super authentic but it's still good. The prices are decent and it's a great place to come eat. I complain about their " to go" plates. I've been here two times now. I didn't like it the first time, and tried to give it a second chance. The second time I went here, it was absolutely awful. I ordered several burritos. Never in my life have I just gotten a burrito with just meat in it. It didn't have any veggies or beans like other restaurants. Plus, the meat burritos were way too salty. I also ordered tacos, and they were okay. Chips and salsa are okay. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant at all. There are much better Mexican restaurants in this town. read more
