Spa Belle La Vie - Outdoor massage

I would give zero stars if I could. I have been struggling with intense back pain, and after a back…read morescan revealed it was a muscle issue, the kind woman who did my scan highly recommended the masseuse Emily at Spa Belle La Vie. She claimed Emily's deep tissue massages had helped her immensely. I called to book an appointment, but the earliest available slot was over a week away at 11 AM. The Friday before my appointment, the spa called to reschedule because Emily was no longer available. Her next availability was a few days later at 12:45 PM on a Thursday. I agreed to the new appointment. I arrived early on the day of my rescheduled appointment, only to be met with disdainful looks from the six women lounging around the front desk, chatting amongst themselves. After an awkward wait, someone finally addressed me, saying someone would assist me shortly. Only one person seemed to be working at the desk. When I was eventually shown to the waiting room, I received no instructions about what would happen next or where to put my new client forms. When the masseuse came to get me, it was not Emily. I asked about Emily's whereabouts, only to be told she wasn't at work that day. Furious, I returned to the front desk, where the six women looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Oh, we will reschedule you." This was the second time I had been rescheduled, and I wasn't about to let them waste any more of my time. I walked out. This situation boils down to one of three issues: the front desk staff is incompetent, Emily is selectively choosing her clients and didn't want to work with me, or they don't want to service a Black woman. The waiting room was empty, so they clearly weren't busy. No wonder this spa has such poor reviews. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but this experience was beyond frustrating. Why would I trust them to reschedule me again only to be disappointed? I'm still dealing with back pain and am no closer to finding relief. If anyone knows of good spas in Tuscaloosa, please let me know.

I had heard so good things about this place so I called on a whim yesterday when I was feeling…read morestressed & got a 1 hour massage w "C C" . ( price is very fair 80$ an hour- there is a 4% surcharge to use cards, so bring cash to save & don't forget to tip I asked for a NMT ( Neuromuscular Therapy massage ) which is stronger than most - and CC didn't disappoint! I was surprised at how strong she was . CC used her arms as well as hands for a deep soothing , almost stretching at times massage . She even pulled my fingers and I felt them pop ! That was so relaxing! This neck thing she did by pulling upward was also amazing ! As someone else has mentioned - English isn't the first language here so there are menus on the wall when you walk in - you point at the amount of time you want , the different types of massage ( Swedish , hot stone etc ) be sure you are clear . There is a clock that has a timer in your room - and you do get the ENTIRE hour! (Most places give you 45 min .) if you want lavender or coconut oil it's an extra 10$ ( I am not big on scents so didn't add this ) It was honestly the best massage I've had in Birmingham! CC is amazing ! And there is a system to how she worked ( I tried to point out my shoulders hold most tension & not sure she understood completely- but she covered EVERYTHING! She used a warm oil at one time and even took care to make sure my hair was covered w a towel ) They have a massage here I've never seen offered elsewhere in Bham -where they walk on your back ! ( I noticed the bars over the table where they hold on as they do this I think a lot of men must like this. ) . I didn't want that because I'm a 63-year-old woman. I would definitely use CC again. ) I cant recommend this place highly enough- BUT you need to be very clear about what you want -because as I said, English is not their first language . Someone left a bad review and mentioned that it looked dirty. (?) and not fancy enough compared to a Bham spa -I can tell you they don't spend their money on fancy furniture , but it is in a nice part of town. ( Vestavia ) i prefer to spend my $ on the actual massage as I have had some very bad massages at some very " fancy " spas and hotels . The entire placd was clean & simple . They had a hygienic face cover in place for me to place my face on.- the room is dark and calming w zen music I saw someone said they didn't think these people were LMT but of course they are licensed I didn't have to look at the degree to tell CC had been trained as a LMT . I have had friends that visited here & recommended to me & Im so grateful. There's not much talking during the massage but I could tell she was reacting to my sounds or if I moved ( etc ) if I said " that feels nice ", it was a strongest massage I have ever had from a woman , but she didn't hurt me I asked for your "Neuromuscular Therapy Massage" ( NMT )which is much stronger than a Swedish . I have never had a better massage ! I will be coming back here regularly. They're a wonderful place and no , they're not "fancy "if you want to pay $100 extra to go to a spa - you do you ! I have been getting massages in Birmingham for the last 20 years and I can tell you this is by far the best massage I've ever gotten . I look forward to trying the hot stone, Swedish & a foot massage soon! It's very easy to find and parking is simple - I called and asked for a massage at 2 pm - I wasn't asked to to fill out a bunch of forms and I was taken straight back.

I walked in after a flight to BHM to kill some time before hotel check-in. Best decision ever. I received a coupon for a free massage for Christmas and I was hesitant to use it. I have a health…read morecondition that makes me extremely sensitive to touch and pressure. It causes unimaginable pain when pressure is asserted on my legs and lower back. The person that gave me the coupon had no idea about my situation. When I went in for my appointment they said it will probably take up about an hour to an hour and a half of my time because they do not rush into any of the treatments. I was fine with that as I needed a little while to relax and settle into the process. There is a warm and quiet atmosphere as soon as you walk into the foyer. This is an old house converted into a business. It has a pretty stone exterior and wood flooring inside. I was shown into a room and told to undress to my 'comfort level' and put the fluffy robe on. I was then taken upstairs to a steam room. I had a choice of vapors, one that relaxes and one that opens the sinuses. I chose the eucalyptus to open my sinuses in hopes it would improve my headaches. The steam had completely relaxed me and probably lasted half an hour (no watch or wall clock), long enough to almost put me to sleep. A light tap on the door with instructions of 'when you are ready to come downstairs' to do so. I did take my time, only because my muscles were already so relaxed I was wobbly and didn't want to take a tumble down the stairs. I was ushered into a massage room downstairs and covered with a hot sheet. I was left alone in this room for several minutes to just relax, enjoy the music and warm sheet. When the therapist returned she asked if I want a deep massage and I assured I didn't and would appreciate it greatly if she would be as light as possible and still do an effective job. She understood and proceeded with oil and asked about the pressure. Once we were on the same page I just relaxed and let go. It was a very thorough massage from several minutes on the scalp to in between the toes. I am so glad that my first massage experience was here and with these people. This day made me fall in love with massage therapy. I was to go to work in about 2 hours and I hated the thought of having to leave the house and ruin that wonderful relaxed mode I was in. All good things must come to an end.
