Full disclosure: I know restaurants are short-staffed these days, and I try to give grace for that. But last night stretched my patience. We sat in our booth for over 15 minutes before anyone brought water. Another 5 minutes passed before our waitress came to take our order. To be clear, when we arrived, only 4 tables inside including ours were occupied. By the time we finished eating, we were the only patrons inside, with just two tables outside being served by someone else entirely. When we finished eating we waited. We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. Our waitress never came. My partner had to go up to the bar to ask for to-go boxes and our check. Not okay. Here's the thing: our waitress wasn't rude, and she got our order exactly right. The problem wasn't her. It was management. Wherever the manager was last night, I never saw them. Was it their night off? Fine, but if you know your team is short-staffed, you plan for it. And if the restaurant wasn't actually short-staffed and this is just the standard level of service, that's a different, more concerning problem. Now, the food. This deserves its own paragraph because it was genuinely good. I had the Deluxe deep-dish, and it delivered. Every bite had a satisfying crunch, the toppings tasted fresh, and the sauce wasn't sweet, which I appreciated. The crust hit that ideal balance of crispy edges and a cheese pull that was fully cooked through. My partner had the Meatziah (I think that's the name), and it was excellent. My son ordered the classic and gave it a 5 out of 5, which is a huge deal coming from a notoriously picky eater. The appetizers matched the entrees. The waffle-cut nacho potatoes were outstanding: perfectly cooked, loaded with amazing bacon, and topped with a chili sauce that built a slow heat in the back of your throat in the best way. The mozzarella sticks were surprisingly great too. The food earns 4-5 stars on its own. But the service, and more specifically the apparent absence of leadership, is dragging this down. If we come back, it'll be for takeout only. IF. read more

We had lunch at Emmy Squared on Saturday around 12:30 PM, and honestly, we had a great experience. Service was great, the cocktail was yummy, and I liked that they offered a "shortie" cocktail option at a better price. Hubby had the shortie, while I got the full size. We shared the Sriracha wings as an appetizer and a pizza, which was more than enough for both of us. Everything tasted great, and I really have no complaints. I'm honestly not sure why there are so many negative reviews about the service and prices. Everything is more expensive nowadays, and the prices here seemed pretty comparable to other restaurants. Overall, we had a really good lunch and would definitely go back. read more

This restaurant will not be open in a year. Which is actually sad considering the first experience I had in the winter was decent and the food was delicious. We walked in this evening a little before 7 (Father's Day) with our spirited three year old in tow. The restaurant was maybe 1/3 full. The hostess ignored us at first, which is somewhat hard to do with a hungry toddler. Then on two occasions somewhere around ten minutes each, she told us she'd be with us. Mind you, she could have sat us at any number of tables within 6 feet of where we were standing at the front door. We are finally seated after 20-25 minutes. No one was in front of us waiting for a table, and no one was behind us. The table is on the side closest to the restroom and the table next to us hasn't been cleared. One younger waitress passed us no less than 5 times. After another 20 minutes of being ignored, we left the restaurant and ended up eating at Whole Foods to get the child food quickly. The most ridiculous part of all is that the same young waitress who ignored chipperly said, "Thanks for coming in and Happy Father's Day!" With as many food choices as Short Pump has to offer and having to intentionally make a trip to Emmy Squared, spend your hard earned money and time elsewhere. read more

We decided to try this because of their gluten free pizza crust. Which was great! Couldn't even tell it was gf. The pizzas were great. They are a little pricey for the size but they are using organic flour. The food really was delicious. Our server was very sweet, the gluten free pizza did take a very long time and didn't come out until everyone else had finished. I'm not sure if that was normal or specific to the pizza my son ordered. We would definitely return. read more

Service was great. We had gluten free pepperoni and were so impressed! It's not often you can get a thick crust GF pizza and this did not disappoint. We also shared some waffle fries and they're great as well. Love the dinos sitting around for the kiddos. read more

Best Detroit Style Pizza I Have Ever Had Food I love pizza. Detroit style has not typically been my favorite but this may change my mind. It is thick crispy on the edge. Bread crust is great. Thick sauce and the toppings are fantastic. The quality of the meats on the meatsiah are top notch. Service Server was attentive and friendly. Always had drink refills. Ambiance It is a chic vibe. Kind of place that feels upscale. Price It isn't cheap. Expect to pay $20-$30 for a pizza but it is a lot of food. The first time we got the small I ate two squares and my son could only each one (teen boy). Summary One of the best pizza places of any genre I've been to highly recommended. read more

I was very excited to try this place! It's in West Broad Village (where burger Bach used to be). I made a reservation because when I first discovered the place, I drove by it and it looked super busy. My friend and I went and we were actually disappointed. It was nice that it had great outdoor seating and I loved the environment. The food on the other hand...my friend got a salad.... it was $9 and all it had on it was lettuce, some cheese and dressing. nothing special and didn't even have croutons. she asked for crispy chicken and they said they were out of it. I had a *build your own pizza* which normally you would think it would be like $11-$14 and then any toppings. Not here, the base was $16-$18 and I got vegan cheese $4.00 extra (sure) and then EACH TOPING WAS $2.50 I got 3 and didn't realize it was extra because it was a build your own.. so my pizza was about $31 ?!? It was an okay pizza. the server was sweet and brand new. read more

The restaurant is located in a nice area. The place was very clean and the staff was very friendly. The ambiance was nice and welcoming. The food was excellent. I am very familiar with Detroit style pizza and while this has a twist on it, it was delicious. I forgot to take pics of the menu however I can tell you the choices were very good or you can create your own. I actually am looking forward to going back to try another one of their pizzas. This place is definitely worth a try. read more

We loved grabbing dinner at Emmy Squared Pizza! It's a large restaurant in Short Pump with Indoor & Outdoor seating, so plenty of space for a group dinner or a date. The Pizza that we ordered was called The Miranda, it had ricotta cheese, bacon and hot honey on top of Detroit style pizza. It was so so delicious & we ate the entire large pizza. We had really nice servers who were also very personable. I highly recommend giving this pizza place a try. You won't regret it! read more

I was genuinely ecstatic to see Emmy Squared Pizza make its way down to Richmond. If you visit, the Founders Pizza is an absolute standout. The combination of red sauce, cheese blend, house-pickled jalapeños, Ezzo pepperoni, and honey is nothing short of a revelation. Each square delivers that signature Detroit-style crisp edge while the sauce ties everything together beautifully. It's the kind of pizza where you can genuinely taste the care and craft behind it--every bite feels intentional. read more

I really want to like this place. I went on opening/media day and scored some free pizza coupons (select from 1 of 3 options, dine in only) and despite this, I will likely not use them all. My husband ordered a Guinness and comes in a shorter than normal glass. I was surprised how expensive the menu items are. We ended up choosing a chicken parm sandwich, chopped cheese burger, vodka pizza and one side fries. I found the menu confusing, so I thought the fries were 3 dollars because it said Zia Ya Fries $3, but that was $3 (for cheese) on top of $7 for a la carte waffle fries, crazy! The chicken parm sandwich was slightly overcooked but okay flavor. But like $19 ala carte good, not even close. And if you added fries, that's a $26 chicken sandwich. The chopped cheese burger was not my jam at all, like 2 star for me, would never order this again. It just has a strange flavor with the beef, chopped onions, green peppers and American cheese. The pizza was good; I think I prefer NY style (not their fault). The waffle fries were okay, the cheese sauce was okay. The restaurant is pretty. Service was a little slow. If you love Chicago style pizza, go for just that and a drink and you will probably be happy! read more

First off, view my profile and you'll quickly notice how seldomly I give any restaurants less than 4 stars... certainly not 1. I will say that the food is decent. We got a couple of burgers and the waffle fry appetizer. Note that the burgers don't come with sides; they're paid for separately, and it's $7 for the waffles fries. They also charge for sauces on the side ($2). Our main gripe was with the service. There was max about 3 different groups seated, and I observed at least 8 employees lingering around. It took a long time to get our beer and appetizer. The beer came out a bit warm, so I'm guessing it was just waiting. The appetizer apparently took a while because the order was messed up, so they redid it (appreciate that, but just noting). We got it at the same time of our entrees. It took at least 15 minutes upon finishing to get our check, boxes, etc. The restaurant manager even swung by and asked how everything was. We said it was fine, but that the beer was a bit warm. We got a "that's good to know!" response - no offer to refund or at least get a new or different drink. The beer was practically untouched too, so it wasn't a matter of returning something I still obviously consumed. After that, we had at least 2 other people who seemed like supervisors of some sort asked how things were, to which we said "ok" and "could've been better", but there was zero verbal response. They just helped clear our table. I even emailed the restaurant separately on their website to reach out about the experience, hoping that maybe it was just a terrible night, but I never received a response. TLDR: If you want a decent $15 burger only (or pizza according to some other reviews) without any sides for takeout, this is the place for you. If you want more value and better service, go somewhere else. read more

Got a cheese pizza, chicken parm sandwich, boneless chicken wings both siracha glaze and plain, and a Caesar salad for take out. Consensus from our family of 5 was mixed. Kids loved the pizza. However, the boneless wings were a disappointment! They were overcooked bordering on burnt. They looked much different than the photos online. While the siracha glaze had a nice kick, the wings fell short of expectations. The Caesar salad dressing was delic but the salad itself was underwhelming. Really wanted to like this newer restaurant. Hope it succeeds for other customers. read more

So the ambiance is nice in here. It's comfortable, we came in on a Monday so it wasn't busy. This is a good place to come with friends to hang out. One thing, we ordered sparkling water and the limes were OLD. Definitely a turn off. We split a Cesar salad which was fresh and tasty. The pizza is thick crust like French bread. We had the margarita pizza, it comes with a lot of sauce on it. The pizza was pretty good, we ordered a large and had some to take home. Overall nice new addition to Short Pump. read more

Ordered & paid for a large online order at 4pm. Pickup time was 9:45 pm same day. Walked in to pick up order at 9;45 & my food order was not ready. 4.5 overall Growing up in Michigan, I love Detroit pizza and typically outside of the Detroit area people call any square pizza "Detroit Style" which is far from true Yes, Detroit Style pizza is square though the true difference in the cheese and the cheese crisping over the edges into deliciousness. Emmy Squared has a good version. Corners were crispy, though could have been a little cheesier. Service was good. It took awhile after we were seated to have a server come over and help us, though after the initial delay our server was attentive and helpful Ceasar salad was fresh and definatley could taste the anchovies in the dressing and a generous very sharable size. What we tried: Ceasar Salad Classic Pizza: Signature cheese blend, house-made red sauce Other: Booths and tables, outdoor patio area, bar area Street parking or nearby garage My rating rationale + .5 Service +1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value read more

I have ordered pizza from here multiple times for pickup. Always loved the pizza. However this is my first time dining in at the restaurant. There were 3 of us and we were sat at a 6 top. They left all of the dishes and silverware on the table. Which made it crowded when the food was brought to the table. There was no salt on the table so we asked for salt. They gave us a shaker that was full but completely clogged and nothing would come out. They then tried all of the other shakers and all were clogged. So they gave us a cup full of salt to share at the table. No one seemed surprised that they were all in non working order. Had to ask for refills on drinks. The staff seemed very inattentive. The pizza is good but I would not bother coming back to eat at the restaurant. Just not impressed with the service for dine in. read more

My husband and I were a little skeptical because of some of the reviews, but our experience at Emmy squared exceeded our expectations. We got two regulars - the Roni and Ang. Both were delicious. I slightly prefer the Roni because I love red sauce, but the ricotta on the Ang was so creamy. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive to our needs. We will definitely be back to try more menu items. read more

Came here with my wife a couple days ago and fell in love with this place. We ordered the Hawaiian pizza and a Caesar salad with chicken. The salad was so good and fresh. It's always refreshing when a place takes the time to really get a salad right and gives you a decent portion size (especially for a pizza place). The pizza was extremely flavorful and super filling. The prices are a little expensive but the portion sizes justify the prices. The service wasn't bad, nothing special. read more

Went in on a Friday night a little before 8 pm. I don't know if they were short staffed or not but we sat for 15 minutes after being seated by the hostess and no one came to offer a drink or take our order or even acknowledge we were there. We ended up just leaving - disappointing. read more

After reading the reviews, I was anxious to try Emmy's out. Much like the reviews, it was generally ok, but not a full 5 stars. We had a party of 6, so not too large. We got seated quickly, service was very good. They brought our food out at different times, so one person was done before others got their food. We even had one person that didn't get his food until 4 others were done, and it was only wings, nothing to complicated. One burger came out and had to be sent back as it was relatively raw in the middle. Mozzarella sticks were really soggy, the cheese was melted but the coating was not cooked at all. Kind of confusing However, the pizza was fantastic as was the other meals we got. Service made up for the lack of effort from the kitchen. We never lacked for drinks, so that helped a lot. Overall we would probably give it another shot simply due to the pizza being so good. But, probably won't order the mozzarella or a burger. Good thing they have a good quality pizza I guess. read more

We've eaten at Emmy Squared once. Food was good. Drinks were overpriced. Our one star review is based on Emmy Squared's lack of consideration for the individuals that live in the vicinity of the restaurant. Food delivery consistently occurs between 3:00-4:30am. Loud delivery trucks. Metal ramps being pulled in and out. Loud music blaring. Emmy was asked by multiple parties to receive deliveries during reasonable hours (after 6am & before 9pm). Yet, no change. I'll try Emmy's again when I can get a good nights sleep. read more

Came on a whim and left on a whiff. First off be aware - this is a pricy spot. A sandwich or burger, if you want to add fries, will run you into the mid $20+. There were tons of servers around but no one seemed to care that our drinks were warm, our appetizer came out at the same time as our entree, and everything took quite a while. When we were asked for feedback, we gave it...but then nothing happened despite multiple people coming to check on us towards the end of our meal. Definitely expect more for the price. read more

I really wanted to like this location because I've been to other Emmy Squared restaurants and always had great experiences. I ordered an appetizer and a pizza. The appetizer seemed to take quite a while. Eventually I overheard the server asking the kitchen about it, and it turned out they hadn't even started on it yet. Another staff member came out to apologize, and the appetizer followed soon after. To their credit, the Chicken Crunchers with pineapple chili glaze were excellent. The pizza, unfortunately, was a disappointment. The first few corner slices were good, but the pizza overall seemed underdone and the toppings were very unevenly distributed. The ends had barely any sauce, while the center was overloaded. When I tried one of the middle slices, the center was doughy and inedible. It was about 10 to 15 minutes before my server came back around, and I explained the issue. She offered to put it back in the oven, but by that point I was starting to feel sick to my stomach, so I declined and asked her to take it away. What left me most disappointed was the resolution, or lack thereof. I wasn't looking for a free meal, but even a partial discount on the pizza would have gone a long way. Overall, the service staff were polite and the appetizer was great, but the execution on the pizza and the way the situation was handled left me frustrated. I've enjoyed Emmy Squared at other locations, but this particular visit missed the mark. read more

Emmy Squared is located in the old Burger bach location in West Broad Village. I'm always excited to try a new restaurant and pizza is always a bonus! Walking in we could not see any employees in the restaurant. Several tables were occupied, but no staff were visible. We waited about three minutes before somebody came and seated us. Our server was nice, but rarely around and actually thought he had taken our order and came by to tell us it should be out soon when he in fact did not taken our order at all. We both had the salad and pizza option and it was very good. I had the Miranda pizza and Brussels sprouts salad and it was excellent. The restaurant seemed clean and well maintained. I would definitely come back again and I hope that they can get their service figured out. I think the bad service could've been an anomaly because I see other reviews talk about great service so we may have just caught them on a bad day or a bad time. read more

The food 10/10 I will definitely be making this my new go-to pizza place. The flavors were there and everything was fresh out and hot. The design inside was so nice gave the feel of being up north which I miss all the time so makes me feel at home. Only thing that wasn't pictured was the Caesar salad it was awful the anchovies was really strong in the dressing so if you don't like that flavor don't get it. The service could've been better, she could've been more attentive instead of talking to co-workers and other tables other than that I definitely recommend this place for family and friends. Only been open here a few weeks, but a national chain with 31 locations. In the location of the old Burger Bach in Short Pump, so interior is nice. Still finding their rhythm. Mop bucket was parked in the edge between the dining too and kitchen for the duration of my stay. Smell of bleach was faint but evident. I've never heard kitchen timers beep in anything other than fast food restaurants, but did here. Came for a lunch slice and took maybe 20 minutes, which seemed like a long time for how few people were here. Excellent tap menu of beer, much local. Staff were in traditional restaurant black attire, but a guy who seemed to be a manager (standing laptop at the bar and walking back and forth into the kitchen) dressed in old tattered jeans and a casual button-up. Not setting the standard. Pizza was pretty good. Sauce was not as reduced (thick) as I would expect on Detroit Style. Crisp edges on the crust but no frico (crispy fried cheese where it meets the pizza pan). Crust was light and lofty. Server was very attentive. I'd come back. FYI - The "third slice" $7 lunch special is actually two slices, or a third of an 8x10 pizza. Definitely filling. read more

Emmy Squared is a welcome addition to Short Pump, delivering creative flavor combos, perfectly crispy Detroit-style crust, and a cocktail menu that's worth exploring. We tried the Mediterranean Steak & Olive pizza (pictured) and it was absolutely loaded with flavor. Tender steak, caramelized onions, briny kalamata olives, spinach, and just the right amount of cheese on their signature crispy-edged crust. A unique combo that worked better than expected. For the little one, the kids pizza sticks were a solid win. Perfect portion, soft and cheesy, and kept him happy while we enjoyed the main event. Drinks were on point too. The Dos Fashioned, a smoked mezcal twist on an old fashioned, had a great balance of smoke, sweetness, and citrus. Definitely worth trying if you're a fan of mezcal. Service was friendly and attentive. Even though they're brand new, the team seems to be running smooth already. We'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. read more

I ordered a gluten free cheese pizza with sauce on the side for my son who has celiac disease. No one answered the phone for an hour so I ordered in person. Came back 20 minutes later to take it home, only to hear they had to remake it because they added the sauce on top. When it was finally ready, I checked the box and only 6 tiny square slices were there. Total was nearly $25!!!! No compensation for the extra wait time, reduced to 6 pieces instead of the usual 9 and only one small container of sauce. The price is ludacrous!!! We were so unhappy with this visit that we will never be ordering from here again. Super disappointed as my son has few places he'll eat from due to his strict diet and allergies. read more
