Just got new running shoes! I'm not very experienced and have gotten shoes that aren't fitted for me, thereby causing me pain and reluctance to workout. The ONE time I got my shoes fitted in Chicago, I loved my shoes so much, I ran 5k, 10k, half-marathons, and was the happiest slow runner ever. I've moved to the Allentown area and it's time for my super old shoes to be updated. Enter in Tyler at Emmaus Run Inn. He got me fitted right away and taught me what to look for. He brought out two options just from inspecting my old ones and they're both perfect! I had a hard time picking from the two. Today was my first visit to the Emmaus Run Inn. The first thing I noticed when entering the store was how clean it was. Spotless. It was a snowy day and I felt guilty carrying salt and ice on my boots. The store is stocked with very interesting items for all levels of activity. I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman, Wesley. We discussed my specific needs for my problem feet. He was very knowledgeable about problem feet and the best solutions for my physical limitations. I was very impressed with smart solutions that he shared about easing my painful feet in the future. I purchased a pair of sneakers one year ago there and they never felt comfortable. I took them back really not expecting them to do anything for me. I thought perhaps they would give me a discount off a new pair. I was fitted for a new pair of sneakers that I loved and when I went to pay they told me there was no charge and they will just swap them out for the old sneakers. I went to Emmaus Run Inn to buy my first pair of sneaker-like footwear in over a decade. I'd been doing Doc Martin's boots and then a vegetarian version from Vegetarian Shoes, which are nice but less comfortable. I really was averse to the idea of wearing ugly-ass sneakers with "look at me" colors (which are more like "holy crap!" colors), and a cost that implies they are composed of moon rocks and fairy wings. I was also not interested in all the trying-on and salesmanship nonsense. Luckily I went to Emmaus Run Inn. The woman that helped me was nice, knowledgeable about proper foot wear, and not even remotely pushy. They had me actually go for a walk outside, down the block, to test out several shoes (though I guess they did have my girl friend for collateral). The shoes I chose were the more costly of the three i tried, but actually weren't particularly expensive, really. They felt best. The cost was similar to my vegetarian shoes (which is also reasonable, IMO). I was kind of shocked to not need to take out a second mortgage on my kidneys to buy sneakers, especially proper running shoes, at a proper runner's store. I must be out of date with current shoe sales norms, or actual runner's shoes cost less than inferior junk from the big names you'll find at the mall, like the one with the swoosh on it... I guess there's a real difference between running shoes and status symbol sneakers. They held my selection at the store till I was able to get payment called in (because I'm poor as dirt and healthy walkin' shoes were a gift... so any second mortgage on kidneys would've been on someone else, but I still care to buy sensibly). I picked them up without a bit of difficulty (I could've been more assertive about getting someone's attention when I came in for pickup, since they were helping customers across the room, rather than staffing the desk, but I'm quite a pleasant and patient fella who once worked customer support himself, so it's cool). I recommend Emmaus Run Inn without any hesitation, especially if you happen to need shoes (because, you know, they sell those). Also, while you're there, try out the shoes. read more

It was only upon entering this cool little shop, which has a really fun "inn" theme, that I even learned what running shoes were all about. The staff took their time to watching me walk around, explained the concept of pronation to me, and showed me a bunch of different shoes which would best accommodate my style. They even let me go for a run around the block with a few pairs, so I could be certain which were right for me. I was extremely happy with my purchase, and have been back for accessories since. This store was recommended by my foot doctor. I called, got directions and entered the store. The clerk was very friendly and helpful. I bought the correct shoes, socks and arch support sleeve, anxious to try them out. I put on the arch support and flip-flops that I bought and went shopping, not expecting too much. HOWEVER, it was the first time in 3 months and 2 docs appointments that I could go shopping with 90% less pain. My dad shops here for running shoes and Pulse orthotics. I was having a terrible burning sensation on the top of my foot when running on treadmill and my dad said these people know there stuff. I was greeted by Nicole and she helped me with finding a pair of running sneakers. Nicole brought in and out about 6 or 7 pairs and each pair I tried on, I then ran on treadmill for 2 minutes and my top of feet did not burn. Not only was Nicole very friendly but she was patient, very knowledgeable about specifications and listened to my needs and concerns and what I needed primarily in a sneaker. I will now buy my running sneakers here. If anyone from Emmaus Run Inn reads this, know that you have a great girl named Nicole who was a pleasure to get help from and her patience and professionalism was impressive. The sneakers I got this time were the extra cushion size 10.5 Hoka brand Bondi 6. .the first 3 photos are the Hoka sneakers I bought.
