I love these ladies!
So, to give context: I am really funny about my hair. I don't wear makeup, I don't do my eyebrows often enough, etc.. but I have actually spent hours in a day trying to research what the hell to do with my hair. It's the one thing I really, really want to look good. (But somehow still have no idea what to do with.) I had a family friend who did my hair back home in the States, and when I moved here, I felt absolutely lost not knowing where to go. I went to two other (chain business) places in Edinburgh last year, was happy with one, and only okay with the other, but nothing had clicked.
Also, I'm trying my best to go more green and eco-friendly, and I'm really funny about what I put on my skin and hair. So, I googled "organic hairdresser Edinburgh", and these ladies popped up. I decided to give it a go, as they had a promotion going on for discounted haircuts.
Hell, I'm never going anywhere else in Edinburgh again!
First of all--that price rating Yelp has this salon listed under is sort of a lie. I mean, theoretically, the prices can get that high (and they'd still be worth, to be honest), but they're so wonderful about having sales and promotions you can jump on. I got a HUGE discount on my first cut, got a discount card for the next time I go, and managed to catch a huge Buy-1-get-1-free promo they were doing for vouchers, so am set for the next two haircuts after, as well. Students, jump on this. I totally don't have the money to be spending a lot on my hair, and I can still afford to go to these ladies!
And it's so worth it.
I walked into this salon basically ready (though regretfully) to be the most annoying client of the day. "I love my hair, but I have no idea what I want with it, but I want a change please, and please don't chop it all off, I need to still be professional, but I really want something cute, and I really want a change, and if it could be something that doesn't mind getting messy or wind-tossed and doesn't need too much work that would be great, k thanks." This was basically what I told Sinara, the poor girl stuck with me. (I would have strangled myself, had I been the hairdresser.) Hell, she just went with it, asked a few questions here and there, and explained what she was doing as she went, and BAM! I came out with a really cute look! (I have no idea what to call it.. she said something about a fringe and layers..) I looked great! (I still look great, weeks after!) It looked so good (and changed) that my husband ACTUALLY NOTICED. He actually noticed. (He didn't notice when I got my nose pierced..)
I love my hair now. And I had expected this to be such an uncomfortable experience, but it was actually a lot of fun! We talked about dogs, and spicy food, and Edinburgh.. and Sinara is just a really lovely lady. She's a darling.
And WOW she gives a really, really good head massage.
I've already got my next appointment with her booked, and I'm SO excited for it. I have half a plan for what I want, and I'm totally confident about letting her figure out the details. (That's SUCH a relief!) This salon is so relaxing to be in, and the ladies I met are all good fun. Plus, eco-conscious and cruelty-free products. Love it! read more
