My experience with cascal used to be 5stars but unfortunately my old hairdresser left (james) and was given vague answers to if he would be back. I had been going to james after i had ashley who was good very nice girl but a little quiet, but not as good as james, he actually caught my eye when i had my hair colored and cut by ashley while his own client was raving about her hair at reception, her hair was was stunning. so when i rebooked my appointment i rebooked with him, felt bit awkward but ashley was lovely when i came in, not fazed but my skipping to another stylist lol. James trually is a lovely guy and a very talented hairdresser, maybe a bit of a perfectionist but i like that, my only downfall with my appointments with james were the lack of communication with other staff, often a woman (possible owner) always seemed to interrupt and over sell products to me, lovely girl but overpowering. so on arrival for my appointment i was greeted by a receptionist who confirmed my appointment and then looked a bit dazed to me confirming it was with james, to which point i was asked if i would like a coffee and to take a seat, a girl came from out the back and explained james was no longer a staff member to which my response was ''why was i not pre-contacted to make me aware of this? the response was ''uhhm well we tried'' i can assure you no one called me on my landline or mobile. Any way i ended up allowing the girl to do my hair after her explaining she had more experience than james and was very good, seeming to be so confident i allowed her to do my hair, the stylist was amy. She was quite bubbly, explained alot about aftercare and such, had a consultation and off we went, well after taking my colour off and returning to my seat i could see my color was NOT was i was asking for, but i also no color is different when wet, so i went with it and allowed her to cut my hair. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE i was devastated, she cut my hair so blunt and just bad!! i couldn't believe it i cant believe i never stopped her. my color was stripey, my hair was dry, i was so disappointed and felt let down. I have been contacted by cascal offering there services and to rectify the problems occurred but i will never got back!! I have now found a nfabulous new hairdresser at JFK called lewis who is absolutely brilliant! i also went to fraser and he was great to, bit quiet. Overall i had an awful experience with my last appointment, the salon it self seems to change atmosphere on different dates i have visited but overall very relaxed, oh and almost forgot to mention the beauty girl, amazing! she fit me in with a eyebrow tint while i had colour on my hair which was perfect! absolutely lovely i cant remember her name but she was leaving for maternity. I visited the Cascal salon in Greens Edinburgh on the 12th of June (a while back now I realise) for the first time. When I called up initially I requested a tint - I was told that I would have a girl who was recently qualified doing my hair not a problem. When I turned up, I was told I could not have a tint as I had highlights in already again not a problem, I just did not realise you couldn't have a tint over highlights which I apologised for. I was then told because we were tight for time I could maybe have a half head and no cut, and possibly no blow dry. I went along with it as I had not booked for the right appointment. Then, the girl took a guy for a cut at my appointment time no wonder they couldn't fit in a cut for me! After being taken 20 mins late the girl started on my half head of highlights SILENTLY. She pulled my hair to within an inch of it's life, and when I strained my head to relieve the pressure she said 'oham I hurting you?' (which was the most she said the whole time I was there) to which I replied 'Yes, it's just a bit tight?'. She eventually gave my scalp a rest after 45mins of pulling and SILENCE! It was the most uncomfortable and awkward time I've ever had at a hairdresser!! Once my colour had developed, it was taken off and I was informed that yes, there would be time for a cut but only a trim. Well! I wish I hadn't bothered! She cut my hair, and in fairness I was happy with it when I left. However, when I went to a different hairdresser last week who coloured my hair (and actually spoke,) she told me that my hair was 1/4" longer on one side than the other. She took a photo for me and it's UNBELIEVABLE. I will definately not be going back to Cascal. Not only did I have a silent experience, but also I had my scalp ripped off and a squint haircut. Poor, poor service if the newly qualified girl can't cut hair or talk then don't let her loose on customers. read more

Hi there, I visited Cascal, Leith for a full head of Highlights and cut. Firstly on arriving I was left to wait for 20 minutes as the girl was finishing a client (who in fact I later found out to be a member of staff). Then I got taken and the first concern was the girl who was the Colour Technician was 18 years old but I though hey give her a chance. I advised her I did not want a change, just the same natural blonde that I had already. WELL WELL WELL after 2 hours it was blow dried it was thick blonde stripe then thick ginger stripe (my husband described my hair as a badger). I voiced my concern to the manager (funky girl with red hair) she kindof palmed me off and said it would die down and made me feel like I was causing a hassle and being very irrational. She cut my hair really well, I paid and on leaving she said if I still feel it is stripey when it settles down(???) I can come back for some more to patch it up how ridiculous!! Anyway I went home realised my situation and that I could not bare in public hair like this and telephoned the following morning explaining my concerns, I had to push it to be honest and thankfully I went back in and another (really nice girl with blonde bob) promised to fix it. Without slagging her colleague off who had done it, she was like oh I see what you mean. Another two hours and I walked out with it fixed to some extent however she advised I would have to have my hair highlighted a few times before all the orange had gone!! This place is a completely unprofessional joke as a prestigous salon, its far from it, I'm sure the girl who does cuts is fine but for anyone who has highlights DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! read more

I booked through Groupon. There was only 1 member of staff in the salon that day. He was tending to reception as well as me. He said all the staff had phoned in sick and he admitted to being hung over. That aside, i felt the experience was rushed. The conditioning treatment lasted around 2- 5 minutes with my head back in the sink. This was very uncomfortable. My sister in law advises that she has had deep conditioning treatments and she says they towel dry the hair apply the treatment, wrap your hair in a towel and leave you sitting with a magazine, and a beverage - a pampering a relaxing treatment. I couldn't wait to sit up as it was painful. On styling my hair I felt he was abit rough. A butterfly clip in my hair flew across the room at one point and when he dried it, it had no body. When I got home I wasn't happy with the end result it was too dark. I felt depressed when I went to a party later that day and my hair has been rather dry ever since which I found strange after a cut and deep conditioning treatment. I also felt insecure on hogmanay about my hair and didn't want to go up town. I decided to get my hair redone by another hairdresser. She showed me that the ends were uneven by putting my hair through her fingers and she said the highlights were very blocky for fine hair. She has re cut it and re highlighted it for me. Its great now but cost me an extra £60. She also advised a deep conditioning treatment should be on 10 - 20 minutes and it sounds like it has just been a normal conditioner used in Cascal that day. OVER PRICED!! Not worth the money! I recently went to cascal before new year - my usual hairdresser had let me down at the last minute and so I was grateful that I could get an appointment at Cascal at short notice over the festive priod. However First I get there and pretty convinced they hadn't booked me in as the receptionist asked me to repeat my name 4 times! there was lots of whispering and discussions between the stylists but eventually I got seen to. I was just there for a half head of highlights & a wee trim. The girl who did my hair (amy) made very little conversation and actually seemed more interested in chatting to the other stylist than to me a bit rude i thought. Then the junior who washed my hair caught my earing so bad it started to bleed and has now got infected thanks for that! The junior also gave me a conditioning treatment which i had not asked for and ended up having to pay for! the cut was hardly even a trim i dont think she cut anything off my hair at all!! I have very thin shoulder length hair not that it matters BUT paying £98.00 for it!!!!!!!! i almost died!! And then she has a cheek to tell me that they are doing 50% off coulours next month! SERIOUSLY!?!? why would i come back the very next month for colour if i had just got it done?? And paid nearly £100 for it!! Seriously?! I am very disappointed with the service at Cascal and feel I was overcharged for the service provided. I wouldnt go here again! read more

I had difficulty trying to use my voucher, but after phoning and talking to one of the managers, I was able to book an appointment. I too wanted to use Harvey Nics - who wouldn't, even although I always use the Leith salon because I've been impressed by the staff both in terms of their cutting skiill and the way in which the treat everyone and make you feel special. On saying that I was not dissapointed with my choice and recieved the most fantastic haircut and blowdry from Clare - she gave advice on products to maintain my hair and style. For the first time I've actually found products that work at home rather than spending a fortune on items that end up in the bucket because they don't work. During my booking the owner Cass introduced herself and personally apologised for my 'wait'. She told me the reason for the delay in getting our appointments was that Cascal sold nearly 2,000 groupons -the most ever sold !! Cass herself stated that her staff were working 'flat out' to accomodate the demand while not comprimising her established clientele, not surprisingly everyone. like me, wanted Hervey Nics!! Welll done to everyone at Cascal for always making me feel special no matter how busy you all are and making my 'wait' worth it. Keep on spreading that fun, and bubbly energy and enthusiasm - my biggest dilemma now is splitting my 'me time' between salons, although I do have a wee fondness for the Leith salon read more

I have been going to Cascal's for about 4yrs and have always been really pleased with the service. During these 4 years I have ventured to other salons (to take up offers, groupons and the like) but always revert back to Cascal because it is quite simply the best. They always go out of their way to fit me in im always calling at the last minute expecting a 'next day' appointment - and put up with my awkwardness. I'm not the easiest of clients and know it but the staff at Cascal in Leith know how to put me at ease and to make me feel comfortable, especially when I'm trying a new style or colour. I'm always changing styles and they give me the confidence to do so. I was there earlier in the week when I arrived I was totally fed up with my hair but after a couple of hours I felt on top of the world and left with a spring in my step. I washed my hair this afternoon and it still looks great. I'm not usually the type of person that bothers with reviews but wanted to share my thoughts and to give them some thanks for their brilliant work! Keep it up guys :) Sarah H ps. I have recently moved to the area from Glasgow and i so happy that i have found a salon that meets all my needs and more , having searching for a salon for months and months in the Edinburgh area i finally found Cascal . The staff are friendly, outgoing and know which styles are in also have great product knowledge.I now have the hair extensions that are fab i was a bit unsure as for over a decade i have had extensiions in from the weace/clip in and bonds always ending in a disiater, however i have now went for my second set of extensions and they are fab the stylist is very good experienced and the condtion of my hair has realy improved .I would in my opnion Amy is fab and is more creative and experienced by the other stylist James whom has recently left nice relaxed atmosphere it is fab. Ihave also treated myself to the beauty tretments with Lo , again she is a very experienced confident thearlist that piut you at ease before during and after your treatments great client care, have great eye lash extensions and has amazing waxing skills almost pain free . I have been a regular customer in the beauty section since the salon opened and now also get my hair done on a regular basis. I find every member of staff to be professional, helpful, honest and most importantly friendly. I have, like most women, boredom issues with my hair in that I fancy a change all the time. My stylist listens and gives excellent advice. My hair is now longer than it has been in years due to her very wise words and the styles that she gives me suit my face perfectly. I have bio sculpture to my nails on a permanent basis and have never once had a problem. I love the colour options and am always fully satisfied with the end result. I also have regular waxing treatments and the odd massage as a pick me up. The staff are so great at the job they do I would recommend to anyone. I never have a problem making appointments and find them extremely accommodating. If they can't fit me in when I last minute decide I need something done they take my details and let me know of any cancellations. Great team, great work, great place! Keep it up! read more

I have been going to cascal since it opened over a year ago. I used to go to cheynes in george street but think cascal is sooo much better! I am extremely fussy about my hair!! As a natural red head I have found it extremely difficult to find a hairdresser who can do my hair and who I am confident with. I usually go for blonde/bleach highlights but in the past no hairdresser could ever get it right! My highlights would either never turn out right or be too bright and damage my hair (that is until I went to Cass at Cascal!). I think Cass and staff are fantastic - there is not turning back for me now. I have finally found an amazing, professional, friendly hairdresser/salon. I would definitely recommend Cascal to everyone I know! The salon is very professional and friendly and the hairdressers (especially Cass, the owner) are superb!! I have been going to Cascal in Leith for just over two years now and couldn't be happier to recommend them. Everybody is so friendly! When I first started going to the salon my hair was overporocessed and in really poor condition, I was given really good advice and help with treatments in the salon as well as ideas for improving my hair at home. My hair is now really healthy looking and shiny and I straighten it just as much as I ever did. I have had friends and strangers compliment me on my hair, lots of people ask me where I get my hair done and one girl (who is herself a hairdresser) even said you can tell your hairdresser is really good. I also have a fringe and they are great at fitting me in to trim it in between cuts at no charge. I have read some of the other reviews, it is true you could probably get a cheaper cut but I think Cascal are worth the money for their service and their skill. Highly recommended. read more

I have been going to Cascal for over 2years now. I have always had a great service from the stylists. They are all fun and very professional even when busy. My cut and colour has always been fantastic, and i have many colours in my hair, which i never have twice, so it is a challenge. There are conditioning treatments that are put in the hair and left on for short periods of time. Not all treatments need the hot towel treatment. (i am a hairdresser). It is such a shame that all the negative points are put on sites like these and very few positive ones. But when you think about the 2000 vouchers sold, along with the 3 salons regular clients which are hundreds, then these few negative comments are nothing really. This should go to prove what a great chain of salons these really are. Well done guys. read more

I have been going to Cascal since it opened. I am a natural red head and found it really difficult to get a hairdresser to understand my hair type. Cass, the owner was fantastic, she sat me down for a consultation, understood the background to all my hair disasters and my hair type and we she understood exactly what i was looking for. When she had finished she had exceeded my expectations. I have been going there for 4 years now, I have been blonde, brown and now red and every cut and colour they done was spot on. I had gone to cheynes and charlie millers before and I can say that Cascal is by far the best hair salon in edinburgh. They are a fun, friendly bunch who are great at their job! I bought a voucher for a cut and colour at Cascal. When I called Harvey Nicols salon to book an appointment I was told that there were "no appointments left for vouchers", the voucher is valid for three months (until Feb) and was only bought three weeks ago! I live in the centre and would find it very difficult to travel to Greens or Costitution St due to long working hours. I did try to call Constitution St after work to try to make an appointment but no answer. I cannot find opening hours on their website... In deperate need of some pampering, but getting appointment is proving difficult! read more

It is a great salon. Unfortunately, I have had a bad experience by attending them recently. The receptionist was not sure about the exact price for the service I asked for. Moreover, the haidresser asked me to pay £42 pounds instead of £20. As you see it is a big difference. The hairdresser seemed to be friendly and efficient, however I do not think I will go there again as I felt a bit embarrassed when they started talking and changing the prices in front of me and other customers. I have been going to cascal for two years now and although its not the cheapest out there for price because you get an ace cut i dont have to visit as often and my colour lasts at least 3 months! I used to have it cut by cass herself but after she had her baby she's quite busy and she put me on to her assistant daniel - WOW! daniel rocks! and does the most fantastic 'Cheryl Cole' blowdry ever! I hqave it done for weddings and special occassions and always get compliments. Really will never go anywhere else now :) read more
