Decades ago my younger son took gymnastic classes there. My husband has used their pool for Scuba trip prep swims to test out their equipment. Also my kids and many of their friends had birthday party events there in the 80s. A friend of mine invited me to stop in and try out their fitness classes for seniors. The program is free to us, though most of the participants have some form of support from their medicare supplement policy (Silver Sneakers membership) and I assume that benefit supports the program financially. Nothing is ever "free" in the sense that it is just like being out in nature. There is a large building and many staff to support. All the staff we met in the process of signing up and get information on programs were very pleasant, efficient and supportive. The teacher of the class was a very positive and talented young woman who clearly understood her participants very well. The music was such fun. Some was the a similar play list to what I had in classes in the late 80s & early 90s, when I last took an indoor fitness program at other locations under the Jazzercize label. Many disco dance songs, new in that era, retro classics now. Also some pop songs of the 60s for some of us and cool down relaxing folk and ballads focus too. I was surprised yet pleased to hear Joan Baez "Diamonds and Rust" unique to a class like this I think. Parking is a bit complicated at the center, as the lot out front has very small spaces and is filled quite early in the day, but there is more room along the sides with slightly larger spaces and now that we know that, we will try there first next week.

For most of my time living in Boulder, this meant taking her to North Boulder Park everyday. Having just moved to the Glenwood neighborhood, I am no longer in close enough proximity to go everyday. Luckily, I discovered Howard H. Park. With plenty of open space, beautiful foliage, and a section specifically for off leash dogs, I am glad to call this my new spot. There is also a children's playground, walking/jogging trail, and creek that runs around the outside of the park. Generally, the park is pretty empty, until about 5 pm or on the weekends - when you're sure to run into plenty of people and their furry friends. My favorite part is a small hill/bump which provides a great place to lay down, as well as spectacular vantage point for launching the disk for my dog.

I find it a little odd that the dog park section is fenced off on 3 sides, luckily the open side leads into an apartment complex's parking where there are compost trash cans. The dogs can also get curious and wander off to other parts of the park since the area is not enclosed. If your dog is sensitive to certain sounds like mine, he gets very nervous around skateboards, this might not be the right park for you. My dog heard kids skateboarding in the park section and decided it was a good time to leave. 3/5 stars for the dog park, 4/5 for the actual park. The park was pretty big, clean, everyone had their own space and were doing activities and being surrounded by mountains isn't too bad either.

This spot has plenty of equipment, only slightly busy/packed during peak hours of course as every other gym is, but honestly most days are fine even during those hours. Usually very clean (gym and bathrooms) but the steam room could do better! You can see the sludge in there and honestly just quick hose down every day with the right cleaning solution would do it, it has a drain so it's not too hard haha. Sometimes the pool smells horrendous haha like wayyy too many chemicals, maybe use local biz Mr Pool - they're amazing for pools indoor and out, as well as the hot tub. The music kinda sucks they play but it's generic gym music so you can't really complain. I love it here, they have a good sized area for everything you need. Maybe one more chest/back pectoral fly machine would be perfect!! That's the only one that's always taken. Cheap prices as well. Good trainers. I don't get how people give it bad reviews.

However they BLAST horrible MUSIC so loud in the hot tub/pool area and woman's locker room. Today it was like I was a prisoner of war with torture music. They said they turned it down, but I had to leave. (You could barely hear it in the MACHINES room but women's locker room and hot tub were unbearable.} The music is rarely ever good music but when they blast it so loud it's not conducive to a happy work out. They said they cannot adjust the speakers individually. They used to turn off the music in the hot tub/sauna room at one time (yes it was off!) and who needs LOUD music to get dressed? What if you want to have real conversations and interact with other humans? Not possible. YIKES!

Unfortunately, I've been a bit disappointed overall. When you first walk in, there are usually several staff members at the front desk. The staff I've interacted with are always polite and helpful when they notice you, though they often appear to be chatting among themselves or on their phones. My main concerns are with the facilities. Most of the TVs are usually set to the same sports channel showing the same game. Occasionally one is on the news without subtitles, and another often seems stuck on the same Bob Ross rerun. Many of the treadmills are frequently out of order, which can be frustrating. As for the massage beds, only one or two are usually working, and even then the pressure is sometimes very weak. I've also noticed that many members don't wipe down equipment after use. It would be helpful if staff could gently remind people of this. Because of these issues, I plan to downgrade to the $10/month membership, as the higher tier doesn't feel worth $35 to me

Everyday I go in there's some sort of mess that is even more repulsive than the last. Feces, hair, strange liquids, you name it. The machines & equipment are often grimy/sweaty due to the empty spray bottles & empty paper towel dispensers that are rarely refilled. It looks like there's a lot of employees on a given day, but not much is being done to keep the establishment clean.

I want to give a special shout out to the owner, Ashley Patchen. She is one of the kindest, most driven, tenacious, hardworking, creative, silly, amazing people I know.
