This is one of the first negative reviews I've ever written for a business, and I'm doing so after…read moremuch careful consideration because although I feel truly wronged, I dont want to make trouble for anyone. That said, having just made the first of many credit card payments for work I never would have had done given the full scope of what my vehicle needed, I feel compelled to prevent this from happening to anyone else. While the actual work done here seems fairly competent, the diagnostic process seems about as accurate as playing darts blindfolded. I brought my car in because it was creaking misfiring, and the check engine light was on. I told them that I believed my engine mounts were worn out and that I also needed a diagnoses for the misfiring. They told me that the cause for the misfiring was likely that my spark plugs and ignition coils were worn out, because that usually happens around 100k miles and my vehicle was past that. I agreed to have them replaced along with new engine mounts, to the tune of $2,600. I was told that after this my vehicle would be like a totally different car. The very next day, my car misfired again and the check engine light came back on. When I brought it back, they informed me that they don't have any way of knowing this fo sure, but I probably actually had a blown head gasket. I brought my car to a different mechanic shop who did a full and complete diagnostic from bumper to bumper and took photos of everything wrong with the car- from a blown head gasket to a leaking transmission to almost completely worn wheel bushings and a host of other problems totaling over $8,200 in addition to the $2,600 I had already paid at Red Rock Auto. Had I known this in the first place, I never would have paid $2,600 on a doomed old van that needed almost $11,000 in work done. I had to buy a new van and that $2,600 would have really helped with the down payment. I'm tempted to say that I feel duped, but I don't think there was any malice or fraud going on- just general laziness or incompetence in the diagnostic process that very negatively affected me.

Finding a qualified, reputable, and honest auto repair facility is of paramount importance. I had…read moretaken my 2016 Mini Cooper Countryman to the local Mini Dealership for an oil change last year, and they recommended a long list of repairs, some of which were absolutely bogus and listed as such in the Mini service bulletins that are readily available online. A few months later it was time for my next oil change, and a 140k mile service, so I went on the hunt for a local, honest auto shop that specialized in Mini Coopers. Based on the reviews online, I found Alex's Auto Haus in Midvale. They did a fantastic job with my 140k mile service, and came back with some additional recommendations. When I picked up the vehicle, they took the time to go through each of the recommendations, physically showed me why I needed new MacPherson struts, showed me the crack in my windshield wiper fluid bottle and the leak in my coolant reservoir bottle, and how dirty my air filter was. And, they did a compression check on my engine to ensure the car was worth investing money to repair it, in lieu of simply trading it in. And, even more encouraging, they did not recommend any of the bogus repairs the Mini dealership tried to sack me with last year. Honesty. Integrity. Technical expertise. Great customer service. But them suddenly one morning (just a few hours before kids' long awaited doctor's s appointment of course!) my Honda van won't start...it seemed like my battery was down. I called couple of mechanic shops but none of them could squeeze me in for same day check up. But when I called the State Automotive and explained them my situation, Dustin told me that they will do an inspection on my battery ASA I reach them and will change it if needed. Long story short...after going there I found out that the previous mechanic who changed the battery and gave me a "Napa" battery (found the info in the receipt), & then charged me for it and the service in 2017 actually DID NOT replace my original Honda battery from 2013 :/ When I asked, Dustin was super nice and took pictures of the old battery and wrote a description for me so I can show that to the old mechanic and texted me those later that day. I really appreciate the help and (quick) service they provided me that day, and thanks to them I was able to make to the doctor's appointment on time :) Thank you so much for all great service! They told me my car was great and didn't need any additional work. I feel extra good about going on a road trip now! AND they have free hot cocoa. Any place with a free treat means my kids aren't mad about coming with me and waiting! PS- their parking lot is pretty "intimidating" (employee's words) but they were cool with me abandoning my car where there was space and at the end they helped me get my car into position for an easy exit so don't be afraid to ask!
