The Alamo view was only visible if you were over 5'8"

I stayed with a friend for two nights, and we had a really unpleasant time overall. The hotel was not what it was billed as, certainly not the standards of a 4 or 5 star hotel. The rooms themselves felt more like 2 stars, as the furniture was all pretty old, the bedsprings made a lot of noise when you moved, and the whole place was dingy and needed a freshening up. There were peeling decals, chipped paint, strange stains, and generally felt like something from the 1980s. What really made our experience bad was that the climate control could not be controlled. We had the same problem in two different rooms on two different floors, so it seems like a building issue. In both rooms, we could not adjust the temperature, and the vents just blew hot air. It got so hot in the rooms that we were both sweating and unable to sleep. It was below freezing outside, but we couldn't open the windows or do anything to cool it off. The thermostat was turned all the way to 64, but it was easily over 80 degrees. After getting almost no sleep the first night, I begged to be let out of the second night's reservation, but the hotel refused. They offered only a $50 credit and new room, which was only less run down than the first and still had the terrible heating issue. (And they never actually applied the $50.) When we reported that we still were unable to sleep the second night, all we were offered were free breakfast tickets, which we didn't want or need. (We had dinner the first night at the hotel restaurant, and the service that I would not return there anyway.) I regret deeply not just eating the price of the second night and going somewhere else. I felt like the hotel did not care about my discomfort at all. And yes, it does seem to be haunted. We saw and heard plenty of weird stuff, but I could have overlooked that if I wasn't having near heatstroke in the rooms.

Unfortunately stayed here on a special night in a second floor suite and was disappointed. The front desk service was nice enough, but none of the outlets in our room charged our phones. (We brought an external charger thankfully). We woke up and it was 60 degrees in the room but it couldn't be changed! Our suite might've had a library but it didn't even have a microwave, and what we paid for it like as a large room at least have a microwave! TV remote only worked 50% of the time. It was just okay until I looked closely around the tub and some of the paneling on the walls. I love that it's a remodel of a super neat historic building but it needs some TLC and I'll probably stay elsewhere next time sadly. But a beautiful lobby area!

    Unexplained fresh blood.

This review is July 4, 2025 and is immediate while we are still in the room. We have two more nights here. We get back from our Sip n Cruise tour on the riverwalk and everyone is in front of the Alamo waiting for the fireworks. We came on up to our room 708 to watch from our window. My wife jumps in the shower real quick. The fire alarm goes off. We walk 7 floors down to the first floor. False alarm. We make it back up to the room. I take a bath. I did not shave. After drying off I grab a fresh pair of underwear and sit on the end of the bed. I put them on. I go back to the bathroom and hang my towel up and turn the lights out. When I walk back into the room there were three very fresh and wet blood stains on the end of the bed. We could not find where the blood came from. I leaned across the bed with my belly touching the bed. When I stood back up there was slight blood where my front waist would have touched. The left inside and front of my underwear was covered in blood. I and my wife inspected my body and especially my mid section and absolutely no cuts. No scratches. Not bleeding from any orifice. This was our second room. We were already moved from the 2nd floor to this floor because we were not given what was requested but management was gracious enough to switch us. The first room was literally atrocious but this room visually and for comfort is very nice. But I have no explanation for the blood!!!!! Management did send us a nice bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.

I wouldn't stay here again. It's not appealing and the staff are not friendly except ONE out of 8-9 different valet guys. No one is welcoming or greets you. Not even management. They are all too busy in their phones or talking amongst eachother about their personal lives. This was my husbands go to hotel when traveling here for business, but when I'm traveling with him, we will definitely not be staying here. I worked for the hotel industry and expect better!

I did not stay at this hotel, I just walked around the entrance and sat at the bar for a drink. This hotel is very well maintained and classy. The bartender was attentive & my Paloma was great. My friend enjoyed the old fashioned.

Where to begin? My first experience with this hotel was when I called ahead to inquire about their parking situation. As soon as the front desk picked up, I was promptly put on hold. After about 20 minutes, I decided to hang up. When I arrived at the hotel, I noticed that the person at the front desk wasn't even busy. The hotel workers who stand outside also, did not even bother opening the door for me when I walked past them. By the way, parking isn't included in the room rate, and you have to use the public parking lot. That adds an additional $38 every 12 hours. I arrived quite late and was hungry. Fortunately, their bar served food until 11 pm. It took about 30 minutes before I was acknowledged and asked what I wanted. I ordered a sandwich to go and asked how long it would take. The lady at the bar assured me it would be ready in about 20 minutes. So, I ordered a drink as well. An hour later, I finally received my food. Luckily, the chicken BLT was still warm, but the fries were cold. Now, the hotel may look nice on the outside and in the lobby, but the rooms are very small. I got a king bed, so I can only imagine how much smaller their queen or single beds are. They also don't have a fridge or microwave in their rooms. Instead, they provide an iron, a small desk, and a lounge chair. The lighting could be better, as it's not well-lit when it's dark. To add to my surprise, I found a grasshopper just casually chillin' in my room! On the first night, the elevators were working fine, but they were slow. The next day, one elevator was out of service, and only one other one seemed to be working. However, it took the elevator cab 20 minutes to reach my floor. You can take the stairs, but they're exterior, and in the heat, that's not a pleasant experience. Overall, I give this hotel a one-star rating. The only positive thing I can say is that the Moscow mule I ordered at the bar on the first night was decent. However, I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel. For a Hilton, it's not worth the money. It's subpar at best, and there are many more positive aspects of other hotels. I'm glad I had an event rate during my stay, as it saved me money.

The Emily Morgan Hotel, formerly known as the Medical Arts Building, is a 13-story Neo-Gothic hotel near the Alamo and part of the Alamo Plaza Historic District in San Antonio, Texas. Built in 1924 and standing 205 feet tall, it was the tallest building in San Antonio until the Milam Building surpassed it in 1928. It is known for being one of the most haunted locations in San Antonio.

Historic hotel with a Paranormal twist We did not stay in this historic hotel but I was intrigued in its rich history. I read articles about it and found them to be fascinating especially its past when it was once the city's first Medical Arts Building and was used as a medical facility (downstairs level were the offices and the top floors was the hospital). We were curious... We visited the hotel while we were in San Antonio. It was said that the 7th, 9th, 12th, and 14th were the most haunted floors. It remains to be seen and I'm not a believer of the paranormal but we had a chance to speak to an employee in the basement. She shared some eerie experiences including once when she was cleaning on one of the floors and was about to go inside the elevator, as she started to push her cart inside she was taken aback to see a a lady in black and gray towards the back of the elevator. She apologized to the figure and said she didn't see her. Then the apparition disappeared. She had more stories to tell... we were all ears. We did go up to the 9th floor. It had undeniably the smell of a hospital, you know, as you walk in one right away you notice a different smell profile. It had a strong odor. Oh, also there is no true "fourteenth floor." The 14th floor is actually the 13th floor. The Emily Morgan was inducted into the Historic Hotels of American Organization in 2015 but earlier, in 1977, it was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Alamo Plaza Historic District and won other awards, as well as being featured in plenty of magazines. Very distinguished building indeed. The hospital... err, hotel is in a great location in downtown San Antonio. Pretty much walking distance to the RiverWalk and just around the corner to The Alamo. Would love to revisit SA for a third time and stay here at the Emily Morgan. The lobby is beautiful. Review #2829

I had a good stay here while in town for a conference. The room was a good size and had a beautiful view of the Alamo out the wall of windows. Room could use a little refresh- some discoloration on parts of the wall and ceiling. The TV seemed very far from the bed which wasn't ideal. Otherwise the room was pretty good for an older hotel. The hotel is convenient to the river walk and many shops and restaurants but a little further to the convention center. Service was so-so. Some staff were awesome and went above and beyond while a few were less friendly/helpful. A staff member at the restaurant tracked down a food request I had which made my morning! The desk clerk who checked me out was friendly and helpful. The valet were all excellent!

I wish I could say I recommend this hotel but I don't. Check in was easy, per usual. We got upgraded to the higher floors and the view was nice. However, the room smelt like an old library.. we didn't need much from the staff during our stay so I can't say whether they were good or not. But the room we got had bed bugs.. I tried to call the front desk and speak with a manager and they told me he wasn't in yet. I told them what was going on and I wasn't looking for a refund nor a free stay. I just wanted the room to be put out of service so they could have it deep cleaned and resolve the issue. I never got a call back from the manager.. I called again a few days later & I still couldn't get a hold of the manager so I asked for an email. They gave me the GMs email in which I wrote him an email. I never got a reply.. very unprofessional and not clean. Wouldn't recommend this place.

Easy checkin. Seamless in fact. Love the valet as there was a huge event at the Alamo the weekend we were there. Oro was wonderful sitting at bar enjoying a nightcap. The room was perfect for us and the best part was watching Martina McBride perform for the 1774 Alamo Event

This is how a "luxury" hotel solves for a leak on your wedding night.

The Hotel bar offered some great perks for guest, private upstairs access away from the crowds, top notch service and attention from the staff and the opportunity to spend some time sipping cocktails on the couch in private in an old 28,000 gallon beer finishing tank. Having coffee and pastries on a beautiful outdoor patio in the morning was also another great opportunity. There was close access to many different places in the Peal Brewing square area adjacent to Hotel Emma including a great morning street fair on Sunday. Hotel Emma is the only 5 Star Hotel that we are aware of in Texas and also provided an outstanding Michelien rated restaurant for dinner (separate review). The only issue I had was every time I stay at this hotel, I have to call the front desk to reserve a room that specifically faces the Riverwalk, otherwise you won't know what room you will get.

The hostess was super friendly with a big smile on her face even helped us with our luggage to the elevator which is uncommon nowadays. The room was super comfortable with a southwestern flare. The hotel is centrally located and is on the Riverwalk of the San Antonio River. We'd love this place so much that we're planning on going back in November.

Cute boutique Hilton property with modern design and aesthetic. Deluxe king was spacious, bathroom area separated by a barn door. Vanity outside the shower / toilet, and plenty of room in both. No closet per se, exposed area for things that need to be hanged, with a few drawers built in. Nespresso machine and a small fridge were convenient. Apparently even-numbered floors are getting upgraded so there was no ice machine on my floor (not the one above and below me for that matter oddly). Front desk was nice enough to send up some ice. The property is valet only, and price is quite steep, but the attendants were probably one of the most helpful and friendly I've come across in my years of travel. There's a restaurant in the lower floor that was quite popular ; wait was 3 hrs one night for a table. I opted for the 3rd floor bar which have more limited food selection, but I was able to find a seat at the bar all the nights I was there. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

I loved the room with a view of the riverwalk. Perhaps the best was the ease of access to the actual riverwalk itself. I'm usually Leary of hotel restaurants but theirs was great. Highly recommend staying here if you're in town for fun or business and want to stay along the riverwalk.

We decided to make a staycation out of it by booking a room and enjoying the bar and restaurants. NO REGRETS! If every San Antonian knew about this place, nobody out of town would ever get in! Our experience began with the greeting from the front desk clerk desk attendant, Jacob. He was awesome! Super attentive to our needs, friendly, and personable. At the spa, Our massage therapists were top rate! Roxi and Sera were very responsive to our aches and pains. We came in wound up and left ready to relax. Back at the hotel, the bar tenders are definitely skilled mixologists. Eric makes a mean Manhattan, his specialty is an old fashioned, but I saw everyone enjoying all the other drinks he made as well! Antlers Lodge is something special! The chef, Joseph Lambert, and his staff at the restaurant are masters of their craft! So humble but so masterful. The food was as top flight as any restaurant we have had in at the best New York restaurants or abroad... and this place truly represents San Antonio at its elevated best.

This place was amazing, and all the staff were incredibly polite and friendly. We ate at Antlers, a fine dining restaurant, the most incredible ribeye, and crème brûlée we've ever had. We also went to the Long Bar and had a delicious burger and brisket mac & cheese. They gave us a complimentary upgrade to a patio room. Our package included free breakfast each morning at the café. There was a beautifully stocked breakfast buffet. There were fire pits outside every night. My complaints: the general store with $8 water bottles. No microwave in the room to heat up leftovers & our bathroom was VERY small. All in all, we will definitely be returning!!!

Christmas Stay at La Mansión on the River Walk-a must holiday experience!…read more The hotel has an unbeatable historic location right in the heart of the River Walk, which really shines during Christmas. Being able to step right out into all the holiday lights and activity is magical. Ironically, because of the location, the boat tours go by about 30x a day you and you will hear the Selena bridge story about as many times... but that's part of the River Walk experience If you stay in a River Walk room - most likely it will be a shared balcony. It was interesting, kinda like being at the pool in terms of privacy but honestly a bit more separation would have been appreciated-even a plant. The hotel itself is a grand old dame--and it definitely shows its age. Behind the beautiful holiday decorations, the floors felt dirty and really needed a deep cleaning or vacuuming. Every time someone walked into the elevator you could feel the floor drop and shift. The adobe-style architecture is charming and floors not so much-they slope noticeably, and the carpet has divots and wear that add to the "creaky" feeling. Overall, the place feels a bit tired. That said, the staff truly try hard, which deserves credit. The hotel has undeniable character and doesn't feel like a chain hotel at all. If you can overlook the obvious maintenance and cleanliness issues, it's still iconic and charming in its own way. Ratings: Cleanliness: (2/5) Staff Effort: (3/5) Location: (5/5) A lovely location with tons of history--just needs some serious TLC to match its reputation.
