Laura is one of the kindest people out there in dog training because she is the real deal. Laura never tried to push sessions on me but was the opposite. If I needed her for more sessions, basically it was up to me to call. The real work is with the dog owner so it appeared to me that she did not want to waste your money. When she found out my last dog died I found a sympathy card in my mailbox. This is Laura. Laurie was very professional, personable, kind and easy to work with. My dogs loved Laura. She has extensive knowledge and history with working with people, training classes as well as her radio station where she offers free information and advice to her audience regarding dog behavior. I recommended Laurie without hesitation to anyone that has a fur baby that needs some support. Just remember it is the owner that needs the support and if you follow the recommendations Laura provides you will get a better outcome with your pup.

(haha)?But it doesn't end there! The house, visible from the road, is not the k-9 center. To find the k-9 center, you have to drive aaaaaaaaall the way down the beaten dirt path (to your left, an agility course can be seen!). On the plus side, there's plenty of free parking. I've brought my dog here for 3+ years due to memories of adopting him from the City of Hartford (who, as of this review, no longer rents runs from Connecticut K-9). My dog, a 16 lb pug-chihuahua mix, is a really big weenie- he can be heard moping and crying from the car and through the double doors. When the secretaries see us, the older woman knows to call the groomer in for a nail trimming (it's the only thing my dog won't let me do). Within minutes, a person comes up to whisk away my dog. Ten minutes of clipping and whining (he's not in pain or anything- he doesn't howl, he just wimpers because he doesn't like his paws touched), and the groomer or his/her assistant bring up my dog. I gave the place three stars because depending on the groomer, his nails will be cut short (as I like them) or barely cut. It's hit or miss, but I still go every four weeks. I then pay for services (and tip with cash!!!!) and go on my merry way. On that note, there's a wonderful man named Pascal who takes such a deep interest in the dogs. He's the lead educator/dog trainer, I think! Also, there's one secretary who always remembers my dog (albeit not his name or me by name haha- S'ok! It's nice that she recognized us and doesn't waste time checking their books because she knows we're all set (for three years with the rabies vaccine) and licenses (annually).)

We turned this dog over to the newington police after feeding, walking, and having her checked for a chip. These found dogs in turn get turned over to Connecticut k-9 education center for temporary housing and care. A woman who claimed to be the owner of Connecticut K-9 center engaged in conversation, she made slanderous accusations stating the dog was dumped by me and my friend, when in fact both of us saved the dog and handed her over to the newington police the evening of March 15th 2025 documented by footage from their lobby camera feed. She was antagonistic and defamatory, contrary to provable facts, this is abnormal and concerning. Worst of all, this type of behavior raises great concern for the safety of the dog we found that ended up in her care. We wouldn't let her take care of a pet rock.

You can drop your dog off in the am and pick them up the next day in the pm for no additional day care charge like other places - they do this because there are shortened play hours on the weekend - but it's still better than my pup sitting home alone when I can't be there! They always remember us & our dogs name & always double check on feeding schedule & amounts which I appreciate. We had a couple of bad experiences at other larger daycare places around & this place immediately had our trust. Many other places are just shuffling large amount of dogs in & you worry yours could get missed (or even hurt because of the dog to person ratio) - I don't get that feel here either! They also put our dog (25lbs when she started) in with the big dogs because of her big personality - they seemed really in tune with the dogs - other daycares placed dogs solely on size - which isn't always appropriate!! All and all - were very happy to have found a place we can trust!

I spoke with a woman and maybe 10 minutes into our conversation she tells me my only option is board and train which would be sending my dog away for three weeks and it's usually $4200 but she would give it to me for $3400. I immediately tell her that that's not doable for me, and during our conversation I got very emotional and began to cry to which did not phase her. She continued the sales pitch without hesitation. The entire phone call was the most sales phone call I've ever experienced, it's like she was reading off a script and there was nothing personal about it. She wasn't listening to me to understand, she was listening to me in order to respond and she already knew what her responses would be before I was done speaking. So impersonal. I asked her to send me the payment plan options so I could look into it which she did but I also expressed to her that three weeks without my dog is a very hard decision for me to make. She told me to let her know in 24 hours if I was going to do it if I wanted the discounted price. That's a big decision to make in 24 hours, spending that amount of money and also sending my dog away for three weeks. I explained to her that this is not something I'm going to move forward with at this time because I cannot afford it and the length of the training does not work for me. I told her I would reach out if I change my mind in the future. She then texted me a text message that I thought was incredibly inappropriate and was intended to guilt me into taking the training. Now the price isn't just not doable for me because I want to save money, I literally don't have that money, and I don't have the money for the payment plan either it is simply too expensive for me. My entire phone call and also the follow up text message made me feel that they were more concerned about closing the sale and getting money then actually caring for and helping my dog. I even asked her if there were other options she basically told me no. If I am going to put my dog in the hands of other people for almost a month I want to be sure that I can trust them and that they actually care and that this isn't just another sale for them. First time dog mom, energetic herding puppy, mid pandemic, limited staff that was poorly trained, etc. I almost pulled my dog from their program a few different times over the first few months. I felt that the young staff was not fit to be with my dog and what seemed like no "adult" supervision and they made comments about my dog not listening to them after one day of being there (obviously he wasn't going to listen well to someone he just met). I took him there for boarding one weekend and when I picked him up found that the staff had neglected to feed him lunch one of the days he was there. I also have a bad taste in my mouth from some of the interactions I've had with one of the managers there. HOWEVER, with all of that said, we continued to go and things have gotten much better. I continued to stick it out despite my hesitation because my dog loves going there. The facility is one of the best I've seen. It's very large with many different play areas for the dogs. They also have pools for the dogs and my pup loves water. My dog was also struggling with a few behavioral issues and we've been working with trainer TeeKay and seen huge improvements! There are always new events for the holidays and different parties going on which are fun for both dogs and parents. It's pretty pricy and I feel like they use any opportunity to charge you extra for things, but everything additional is optional. I do also love the staff during the week. The girl at the front desk is so sweet and the staff really seems to care for the dogs. From time to time we still have issues, like being charged for a full day of daycare when we were there for half, or recently the weekend staff removed my dogs collar and then lost it. But all in all I'm very happy that we have continued to go. Unfortunately I see a lot of negative reviews for the grooming but we can only speak (mostly) positively about the experience we've had at the daycare.
