Scott and his team were dedicated to getting our job done on time even though they encountered issues that could not be foreseen. Everyone on the job were personable and professional. He showed up an hour late in a broke down car with a "friend" and no tools even though he assessed what he would need the week before. They looked dirty and like they had a rough night partying the night before. Then left to go to Ace despite the fact the dresser came with tools and I also have my own. They left and then 2 hours later I messaged him I have plans and needed to leave. He showed back up and wanted to take the dresser to his "shop" and return in a few hours. Over a 3 day period he made up excuses on why it was taking so long, including telling me his uncle went to the hospital and died! He told me the dresser was built that day, then the next said there was missing instructions and took another day, then he said parts were missing and he had to "fabricate parts". Over these 3 days me and my kids dad tried telling him to just bring the dresser back and how uncomfortable I was. He would not bring it back until he was done. Once returned and he was paid, I moved the dresser and it fell apart. He did a ton of damage and then tried to glue it together hoping it would stay. I requested a refund and he refused to make it right and started insulting me and telling me it's my fault because I moved it. It was brand new in a box, I should be able to move it, with out it falling apart. Now I'm left to try and report him while being out $500 as a single mom. This was sooo wrong! Do not trust him!

After a near miss with a "contractor" aka "handyman with a license" I was on my second round of…read moreinterviews of contractors when I met Joe Ottlinger of Ottlinger Custom Building. I wanted to add a shower in the master bath and finish off the room that would accommodate the "pop out" created by the shower. I knew what I wanted, how I wanted it finished and even had the tile picked out. The range of contractors I interviewed went from a fairly large company that actually had a "project management team" (which I didn't want or need for my small project) to a guy who came to the appointment late, hurried through it, couldn't be bothered with discussing the finishing off piece in the third bedroom and then literally begged me for the job weeks later after I had already settled on Ottlinger Custom Building. Most of the bids were much higher than necessary, and once the contractors figured out I knew that, started to negotiate the price down. Joe came up with a fair bid from the beginning. Despite the fact that I knew exactly what I wanted but being a single woman, some of these guys were to say the least a little condescending. It almost felt like they were patting me on the head as if to say "Don't think sweetie, we know best." After these experiences, my trust when it came to contractors was marginal. However, Joe really impressed me with the fact that he listened to EVERYTHING I wanted including the finishing off piece in the third bedroom which was equally as important as the rest of the project in terms of making it all look cohesive and wasn't an afterthought or an add on. Since I live in California and this is my second home, not being there was a big issue for me. So I decided I would go ahead and have Joe do the demo and come up for installation. When I arrived for the actual installation, Joe couldn't have been more helpful in terms of explaining the construction phase, permit process, why he used the same subcontractors to ensure quality installation, as well as what type of construction materials were the best quality and would ensure that there were no problems with mold etc. The reason Joe can keep his prices low and quality high is that he does most of the work himself with the exception of plumbing, electrical etc. and uses the same subcontractors that he knows do quality work and are dependable. Joe has wonderful "people skills" and has great relationships with his subcontractors and inspectors so there was never a problem/hold up getting items scheduled or approved. If you have a vacation home you want work done on or live in the area of Sunriver, Bend or Redmond, Joe is the best kept secret around. Whether it's a big job or small job, he is a perfectionist, who loves what he does, making his customers happy and takes pride in doing a quality job. The job was done on time with a minimum of hold ups. He did a fantastic job on my bathroom, took great pride in his work and even had the house cleaned when he was done!! We could not be happier with the remodel King James Construction did on our house. They remodeled…read morethe bathroom, kitchen, back porch area, and refinished the wood floors in the house. As part of the remodel on the kitchen and back porch they widened a door and took part of the wall down between the former kitchen and dining room. The space is fantastic and completely transformed from what it was. They created more space in the bathroom as well by removing a wall and doing a complete remodel on the space, including a beautiful tiled shower. It looks great and the price was such a great value as Jim really works with your budget. Some of the demo we did and then the construction crew took over from there. The entire space looks and feels completely different. A couple years ago they remodeled our garage and turned it from a leaning 1950's tear down garage into a fantastic area for us to work in. They made the ceiling higher and installed an oversized garage door for us to get larger equipment in and out. The space is fantastic and that's why we asked them to come back and do the remodel on the house. I couldn't be happier with the end result. I highly recommend them for any remodel or a new build.

His knowledge of the industry, building codes and county requirements was apparent immediately, and he was very thorough and quick to respond to any questions that we had! We wanted the project completed to specific point and then wanted to finish up ourselves. Jim was more than willing to accommodate our needs! In the beginning he told me that he was busy, then the holidays arrived, so I waited until after the new year. I've now called and texted him several more times and he hasn't responded at all. Some of the parts he installed are supposed to be under warranty and I can't even get the warranty coverage because I have no one to contact.
