We tried the patatas bravas, meatballs, garlic prawns, paella and fried chicken wings and they were all cooked well and were delicious with good flavours. I thought the serving size was fine for the 4 of us. They have a choice of banquets but I have never seen a banquet that wasn't overpriced anywhere, so I steer away from them. Order from the menu and ask for double serves if you are a large group. You can always order more! Their wine list contains a lot of wines from Spain but they are not overpriced and you can try to relive that last holiday in Barcelona, sitting in the sun by the sea with a glass of the rose!

I went to Bocados with my younger brother and we're both known to be quite big eaters. We ordered paella (however the waitress informed us it would be green), chicken wings and bread. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal. With a good serving of seared salmon on the paella and fresh seafood, this matched the strong lime flavour of the paella delightfully. The wings had a good amount of spicyness, but were definitely over-priced for the small serving size. To conclude our meal, the only sensible option was to order churros. I wasn't overly impressed with this desert. The chocolate could have been sweeter, and the churros could have been slightly more crispy on the outside. However, I'm willing to give bocados the benefit of the doubt that if I were to return, the desert would be on par with the main meal. Overall, Bocados is a great Spanish restaurant. My advice would be to get your fair share of wings, maybe this would be a fantastic first date location, especially if your partner is hesitant to pig-out on food..

All your staple BBQ favourites delivered in a more contemporary, fine dining way…read more I spent $160 for my partners birthday which sounds expensive but that covered 2 beers, a wine, 2 entrees, 2 mains AND 2 desserts, PHEW! Both entrees were a great serving. My entree of pork buns could almost be a light lunch. Very tasty and colourful. No skimping on the garlic prawn entree either. For main the rattle steak is an interesting option served with beans, thick cut chips and chipotle hollandaise sauce. The fried coating is thin enough that it's not oily and has a nice hint of chilli. Sadly my steak was over cooked but it didn't ruin the dish. The fudge brownie and smores desserts were to die for. The brownie top was hard to cut through but it was ENORMOUS! Meals at other tables looked delightful too. Definitely worth a try and has a lovely view with huge glass windows.

We decided to have the garlic bread for main and received 4 slices of sour dough with a small cup of garlic butter to spread ourselves. It was an interesting way to serve and there was more than enough butter which was quite nice. For main I went for the steak and BBQ ribs combo plate with Jack Daniels jus sauce. The waiter said the chef normally prepares medium steak but I could have it my way, I said that I like medium well but was happy to try medium if that's what is recommended. When the steak came out it was quite nice but had definitely been cooked to medium well (no complaints). The jus was amazing and the Jack Daniels wasn't as overpowering as I remember from the previous visit. The ribs serving was also quite big. I didn't mind the ribs but did find the BBQ sauce they were covered in quite sweet and it made me feel a little sick, so I ended up scrapping some of it away. I still finished them in the end. We decided not to have desert as the menu lacked a chocolate option... I know right! Most of it was cooked fruit... Something I despise. My previous visit I remember desert being amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

Mostly outdoor/courtyard seating but there is a private function room. If needed I'd advise to book ahead as it can be busy. Full bar to while away the hours. Relaxing atmosphere provided by The Rooftop layout and alfresco dining; fast service, a variety of mock and cocktails and a menu to satisfy the die hard traditionalists and more adventurous types. Green curry is my favourite but opted for the duck curry with pineapple, lychee and cherry tomato. $25 makes it one of, if not the most expensive choice but duck will do that. There was no shortage of meat, although perfection would have been reached if the skin had been rendered crispy, not soft fat. Typical Thai curry flavour with a very mild heat. Also ordered a virgin daiquiri. Was confused at first as the waitress pronounced daiquiri and duck curry identically. The drink was incredibly refreshing and my dislike of mint was left behind. Killer mocktail! Perfect Summer night beverage. BEWARE the brain-freeze. Downsides, no split bills and minimum $25 payment on cards. Westfield gift card accepted.

My partner and I chanced dinner without a reservation (with our backup burger plan already established), and I thought we'd be turned away but luckily it was just the two of us. This meant being confined to the window seats and ordering at the bar rather than table service but that's a small price to pay. People sitting on the other side were tastefully blocked by a partition of greenery which still allowed a degree of privacy. The place was abuzz with conversation, laughter and music so it was loud but not annoyingly so. After a good peruse over the menu; featuring schnitzels, pork knuckle and sausages to name a few, we settled on the Haus made pretzel, Texan schnitzel for my partner and the Bavarian tasting platter for me. We both LOVE warm pretzels with butter and these certainly did not disappoint. I could eat them all day! The schnitzel was a large portion my partner ultimately couldn't finish. The platter consisting of pork belly, sausages and schnitzel is a great introduction to the menu but also tested my stomach capacity. Washing it down with 500mls of Lowenbrau didn't help but it felt necessary for an authentic experience. Menu is on the expensive side but for an occasional splurge I don't think it will hurt. I certainly intend on returning and with a second one opening closer to home it has been made that much more tempting.

Located on arguably Newcastle's best eat out street, Darby Street and great to see it adding another dimension to the variety of restaurants already on offer. Tastefully Austrian with beer flags and music, but not at all in your face. We ordered 4 different beers and I absolutely loved the different glasses for each. Pretzels to start that were warm; perfectly browned and salted on the outside and soft on the inside. My friend also got the pretzel stick served with a Camembert spread. Menu wasn't too foreign with my friend opting for the schnitzel, my partner the farmers plate and pork knuckle for me. My partner didn't like the amount of fat in his meal but for better or worse I ate every last piece of fat and meat I could scavenge from the knuckle. It was amazing! Ending the night with apple schnapps that were too strong for me but friend loved them. Both of us going traditional with the apple strudel and the Viennese iced coffee for my partner. He said the coffee was very strong with my friend swooping in again to finish it off. We are a good team like that! The bill was expensive at over $200 but I feel it was worth it. Although it's quite new, the decor feels a little tired. Some furniture might have be inherited from the old restaurant (Long bench). BUT, don't let this put you off. The food was delicious. We shared our meals and the waffles with ricotta and fresh fruit was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in Newy. It was incredible! Service was good. Friendly, useful and sweet. Maybe a bit young and nervous but I'm sure after another few months she'll be great. The dinner menu looks well priced and delicious and so we'll definitely be back. A sophisticated take on lots of pork dishes. The back courtyard would be a nice place for an afternoon German beer, it looked like they had a selection on tap. Give this place a try next time you're on Darby St.
