She remained friendly, bubbly and more than helpful. Offering us a smaller table thinking they had cancelled. Probably didn't want to waste the large table but we also did look a bit lonely sitting their nearly empty. Again staff in general were polite in moving us on as the last table and having gone beyond their closing time of 9:30pm. Also having to tell one of our guests that the kitchen had closed (they wanted dessert), whilst I lowered my head in annoyance at the request. I don't know if they always split bills but after a membership card was presented for the 10% discount they proceeded to take more of their time to accomodate this. Now to the food. Arriving to check in our reservation, we were passed by 2 enormous trays of food that I later found out were sharing platters. One ordered at our own table consisting of rib eye steak, ribs and sides. Bring your hunger game! A semi seafood platter also available. My partner and I ordered the 10oz rib eye (medium as standard) with saloon sauce for him and chipotle bernaise for me. The steak looked.... different. Putting it down to the slow cooked process? Tasted amazing regardless. But be warned, the steaks appear to be coated or dry rubbed with chilli flakes. I didn't mind it at all but my partner said his mouth was on fire. I tried his and disagreed strongly. Maybe his threshold was low that night. The side of chips were well seasoned and it was nice to have veggies included over salad. If I had to be negative I'd say the Texas toast could have been done better. Dry due to the thickness and needed more garlic flavour. Already have them in mind for a return trip for my birthday.

The venue itself is a great location, even if a touch out of the way of the main eateries. Of course I love the food offered, I love the view, I love sitting in the warm sun outside when possible but I've really enjoyed the constant welcome from the manager/owner of the place. The staff too ;) Says a lot to me when they take time out to meet n greet you personally. The selections of food have always been fresh and tasty...and filling. This joint is also open late so good to come before of after a movie to eat, chill and talk. It may not be a 5 star restaurant but I feel like I get a 5 star experience.

Balcony area is a major win for the upper location though. Order at the entrance to either take away or dine in at one of the cute tables or booths and listen to some great music whilst you wait. My partners bacon and cheese burger pushed his effort vs enjoyment ratio to the max but he pulled through. Finishing with dripping hands but he said it was worth it. My southern chicken burger was easier to manage with a great coating, double cheese and a zingy chipotle sauce. Chips were also delicious! Add $2 for a dipping sauce but I don't think they need it. I had the milo thick shake at The Rocks location years ago and happy to report it's just as good. Beers on tap or by the bottle. Sadly missed out on the $2 wine or schooner with any main meal which could be better displayed. We saw it advertised afterward when leaving the centre. But there's always next time. There WILL be a next time. Yum!

My husband ordered off the 3 course set menu and chose the duck as the entree... it was a little stringy and undercooked... the fat hadn't been rendered and was still quite thick under the skin. The bread wasn't the freshest tasting... was a bit funny tasting as well. The steak was good but we couldn't really tell if it was because we were starving at 9pm after waiting so long or not. We did ask for mushroom sauce and after we had drenched the steak in it, realised they had given us pepper sauce instead. And boy was it hot. The staff were really friendly and the ribs were fine when they came out, nothing super special... our only saving grace was my Accor Club membership getting us 50% off... otherwise I'm not too sure it's worth it.

In truth, we arrived at 6:30pm and were out by 9:20pm, but it should have been a warning to us as it took 10 minutes before someone materialised to seat us despite having a booking. Only four tables were in use by customers so I'm not sure where the staff were. Anyway, we ordered the three-course meal which turned out to be a mistake. First, the waiter offered us water to which we said yes. I'm not sure where they go for their water, maybe they wait for condensation to build up somewhere and allow it to drip into the glasses. Twenty minutes go by with no sign of water or wait-staff. Finally, someone stopped by the table and asked if we'd like water, to which we reply that we are still waiting for it. The water eventually showed up but the menu also said that bread with an olive oil dipping plate would come to the table. They must have been growing the wheat because that in itself took an eternity to arrive, and it was hard and chewy which no amount of dipping could assail. Twenty minutes later the entree arrived. My duck pie was tasty, but my wife's oxtail broth was tasteless. I'm not sure what oxtail should taste like but being on the menu I'd expect it to taste of something. We finished though, and sat and chatted until a waiter shook off his cobwebs and eventuated past our table again. As my wife and I sat talking, I looked at the time and realised we'd been there an hour and a half and just finished entree. Maybe it's a restaurant designed to get couples talking. For the main, I ordered the lamb cutlets and imagined the phone call going out to the local farmer: "Hey Bob, Steakhouse here. Someone's ordered the lamb cutlets." "No worries mate, I'll get the old ewe impregnated and have a lamb to you shortly." The lamb must have arrived but given them a bit of trouble in the kitchen as the three wait-staff weren't seen by any table for some time. I can understand though, lambs can be pretty frisky little things and chasing it around a confined space such as a kitchen would test anyone. It wasn't worth the wait though; it was tough and tasteless. My wife ordered the beef rib fillet and a huge piece of meat came out with a bone attached. I think it was an entire cow though and the bone was a horn. Obviously their grill isn't big enough to fit a cow as half the meat was well-done and the other was rare. We didn't finish either of our mains, they were that underwhelming. I felt guilty for cutting short that lamb's life after it had so much frolicking fun in the kitchen with the staff. A shadow crossed our table. We looked up. The waiter was there. What was he doing there? Perhaps he'd made a mistake. He wasn't due back at the table for another 35 minutes. The waiter, brushing cobwebs off his suit, looked at our mains and wasn't sure whether to take them away. "We're done," I said, "We're looking forward to dessert." "I'll get that under way for you," he replied, ducking as I flicked a balled cobweb back in his direction. Under way? Now I have to wait for cocoa beans to grown, picked and roasted for my chocolate dessert? Fortunately the dessert didn't take long to arrive and was the best part of the night. Finally, we were done but that wasn't the end; we stood by the counter while they took 20 minutes to finalise our bill which we were just attaching to our room anyway. All through the meal we were both freezing, due to the air conditioning being on cold in the middle of winter. Perhaps it was the temperature that caused the staff to move at a glacial pace. All up, if you have almost three hours to spare for average food and wait-staff who seem to work part-time only; you'll love it!

Our waitress for the evening was Aimee. I think she was bombarded by many tables as it was difficult to get her attention for further drink orders; neither was she proactive in asking. A little work polishing her interactions to come across more genuine would go a long way. Some meals were much larger than others and the use of small bowls to divide the sides (salad, chips, beans I can understand though) was pointless to me. Save yourselves more washing up considering it didn't present itself better for having them. We made the right decision skipping entree though. Would have left no room for birthday cake. I ordered the Mexican chicken steak. It was huge! 2 chicken steaks topped with bacon, guacamole and jalepeno sauce served with salad and chips. The salad was undressed and boring. The chicken steaks were over cooked and dry and the lack of jalepeno sauce didn't help that fact. More sauce and more heat please! I tried my partners slow cooked rib eye and my brothers HUGE 600g steak. Both absolutely delicious. Should have ordered steak. Located in the Wests Club at Cardiff with 10% discount for full members. When we arrived we were still waiting for a few other people to arrive and were looking through our menus. Our waitress Aimee introduced herself and said we could order drinks at the bar or from her and have them on the tab. She said we could choose but in the end it ended up being whatever you wanted. Sometimes it was a bit hard to get her attention (understandably it was a busy Saturday night and she had multiple tables.) but taking a drink order from one end of the table and not the other is a bit silly. Based on the size of the meals we saw arriving at other tables we opted to skip entrees. I chose the 300g Rib Eye, with chips and salad. These come out medium but I asked for it cooked slightly longer. It took a fair while for the food to arrive but being steak I assumed as much. When I got my food it had come with a Jus sauce That wasn't on the menu. Which was fantastic. The chips were awesome too. The steak well. It was amazing. The char grilled outside with all the herbs and spices and the Jus was nothing short of delicious. The only thing I didn't like is I wanted more. Then I moved to the salad and that's where everything crashed and burned. I'm a big fan of a good salad especially after steak. This salad had no dressing whatsoever (I discovered after desperately digging to the bottom of the bowl), which basically made it taste like eating cardboard with a bit of onion flavour. Most of it was rocket as well. I even tried up ending it on the plate of steak juices but that didn't do much. It was a big let down. I probably would have gave 5 stars if it had not of been for the lack of salad dressing. The price was also quiet reasonable for a steak place.

People probably not aware of this place cause its only open from 12pm on fridays & Saturdays and every other day is open fron 5pm. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you notice all the old school Fire station memorabilia hung up all over the walls :)!! So the the name Fire house Grill is the perfect name for this place :). Was here at the restaurant for a mother's day dinner with the family to beat the hustle & bustle rush of the real mothers day tomorrow :)!! We ordered a mixed entrée with, ribs off the bone, tasty pork belly with a creamy slaw topping, king prawns with a crumbed cheese coating, haloumi cheese, salad with 2 dipping sauces (garlic & tzatziki). For dinner majority had fillet mignone with chips salad and dipping sauce of your choice, i had a oven roasted duck with a tasty salad and mum had the braised beef cheek which tasted a bit over cooked and dry byt all the other maibs were very nice :)!! For dessert 2 people had the mango creme Bruleé which was outstanding, my sister had a perfection sticky date pudding which is never served big enough to satisfy your needs lol & i had a freesh fruit & Cheese platter with a peppermint tea.. the perfect tasty end to a nice dinner night out with the family :)!! Really enjoyed dining at this place.. been here about 4 times now and would recommend it to anyone i know .. and must mention again that while waiting for your food to come out and if you weren't conversing it was really nice to stare around the restaurant & study all the fire house memorabilia they had to offer :)
