Last minute gathering of family and a nearby lunch spot needed. Luckily, my mother in law had this suggestion ready and up her sleeve for such an occasion. Through picturesque Australian bush and coastal breezes, we arrived at Lakehouse Cafe for lunch. I'll be upfront: I wasn't expecting much. We noticed that most venues in the area have a weekend surcharge and Lakehouse is no different. It did cost us $2 more per person to eat here on a Saturday. Did it bother us, no? Would it bother others? I'm sure it might and hence I'm telling you about it now. There weren't many staff on duty and we were some of the last of the lunch crowd to arrive. They easily accommodated our table of 6 and we were happily sat in the corner overlooking the river. While we waited for lunch we waxed lyrical about how the space could be converted into a beautiful weekender. Their menu is part bistro / part cafe. I opted for the grilled barramundi with an Italian tomato sauce and roast kipfler potatoes. With two gluten intolerant diners, this dish was our salvation from an afternoon of regret and pain. I also took a breath expecting regret upon ordering a flat white here but surprisingly it was quite a satisfying cup of coffee. Less foam than others but this was actually perfect for me. A definite winning selection amongst our group and a venue I'd gladly return to for a casual, slow-paced and indulgent holiday meal. read more

A hidden gem. I don't normally find cafe's with such great food in this area, and this one is, well, literally hidden. Everything on the menu is good. The food is creative (unpretentious modern Australian), the staff are friendly, and it's a lovely spot to brunch. I've had great breakfasts, brunches and lunches, but am yet to try dinner. read more

We went here looking for lunch, and to choose a venue for NYE. Was really disappointed - service was non-existent and menu was basic. Went somewhere else. read more

Great find- fabulous creative menu in a beautiful setting- certainly a hidden gem. I had the field mushroom but every dish that came out was good. Coffee ok probably the only area I would improve read more

The decor inside could be modernised as it is a little old and even though it is a north facing shop seems very dark. Worth stopping just for the view on a beautiful day. Does get busy. 3/9/15 the cafe is undergoing some renovation - the place is looking much brighter with the new paint job( was not finished) can't wait to see what's next????
