Im an overwhelmed bride, and only child with no siblings, and my mother has Dementia so i was doing it all alone. I never had my wedding planned from a young age so I was completely lost and scared where to begin and wanted something easy. Quyen was there to guide me and literally wipe the tears from my face (I got overwhelmed and cried). We booked the space from 11am to 11pm and Quyen sent over an amazing detailed guide to help plan my wedding and reception. I chose one of her pre-selected decorations options and it turned out so beautiful. I believe the package was called "the silk" i cant recall but it was worth it. All lights and decorations are fully customizable and we chose to go with white table linens/chairs and blue/purple lights. Vendors were a BREEZE, as she let's you bring anyone so long as they are licensed and insured. But dont stress because Quyen has a list of vendors she has worked with that know the space, we ended up choosing one from that list for food and bar and purchased the beer/wine to save some $$$. Venues are expensive but Song River is very affordable in today's market, and honestly worth so much more with how beautiful, large, and customizable the space is. Doug and Penny have major attention to detail and always have the bride and groom at the center of decision making. We did have an unfortunate event occur at some point during the day. The Grooms Suite was robbed and all the groomsmen (including groom) had items stolen including phones, keys, wallets, and bags. We even had a groomsman get his car stolen. The bridal party kept it from us to make sure we still had the best day ever, but it was still very traumatic and deeply upsetting. It was disappointing to find out the venue did not have any working camera security system (we were told it was an older system that wouldn't connect to their new phones) or secure place for the boys to put their valuables. After speaking with the owners the following day, they verbally expressed that they'd be installing better camera security systems, a safe in the grooms suite bolted to the wall to keep valuables, and barbed wire lining the fence line behind the grooms suite to detract intruders. This made us feel confident they were taking proper precautions to prevent this type of incident in the future. The wedding industry in the greater Seattle area is very small so it didn't take long for us to be put in contact with another couple just a few days later who had also gotten robbed the year prior. After connecting with them, it was clear the incidents were not related. However, they were also told by the venue that they installed new security system and a lock on the grooms suite (which our bridal party was never told about to utilize for our event). We were concerned that if this other couple had been told those things, then why a year later was the "new" security system too old to work or connect to their phones? We reached back out to Penny and Doug to clear the air and get confirmation they actually were implementing the changes they promised us several days prior. We were met with a very defensively toned email placing blame on our bridal party for not utilizing the lock (which we were never told about and never given a code to) and blaming our groomsmen for leaving their valuables unattended (which they did not, our coordinator - who happens to be affiliated with the venue - took all our groomsmen's valuables as they were lined up for the ceremony and placed them in the unlocked grooms suite herself.) They also provided 4 photographs in the email response: - the lock that was installed after last years incident (the lock we weren't provided a code for) - a box of barbed wire that they were planning to install (at the time of the email, it presumably hadn't been installed yet) - screenshots of the view of the security system they installed last year (again, why did it magically not work on the night of our event) - a tiny lock box that's small enough to walk away with (note, it's not bolted to the wall in the grooms suite like they previously told us they'd be doing) My husband and I have remained patient and understanding through this whole situation because we truly understand that this type of incident can happen anywhere. What doesn't sit right with us is the resistance to prevent something like this from happening in the future. It happened to us and it's unfortunate and we're moving on and remembering the good parts of our day. But at the end of the day it would eat us alive if it happened to another couple and we didn't do everything in our power to prevent that because it's been an absolute nightmare (at the time of writing this review, the stolen car has still not been recovered) This is not a review to avoid Carey Gardens. To reiterate, they took the absolute best care of us. However, we felt it would be a disservice not to warn future brides and grooms to please please take advantage of the new safety features that Doug and Penny have claimed they're installing.

At $400/year with an additional $365 fee (for a repair that has yet to happen) you'd think that they'd be kinder to members: willing ask questions to find out more information, give members the benefit of the doubt or simply just speak to them kindly. But no, several times these new staff members have been aggressive, combative and simply unkind. Especially so to my teenager, a rule following card carrying member. Every time she comes by, she gets yelled at and told that she's not following the rules, which seem to change from person to person, day to day. It's just too bad when something you've adored for so long and was once a place of peace is now a place where entitled staff consistently find new ways to be less than kind to their customers.

The parking lot is huge, the place is easy to find, right off the road, but it feels peaceful and secluded. The proprietor, Autumn, met us there to go through the electronics and the other details, and before I showed with all my snacks and flowers, she'd already put white tablecloths on all five (huge) tables, and pulled out additional smaller tables for pictures and memorabilia. Everything was spotlessly clean, including a large bathroom and cloakroom. Really, we couldn't have asked for more. I whole-heartedly recommend this venue!

As we later learned, the entire 18-acre property relies on a low-yield private well that recharges at only 30 gallons per hour. Multi-Listing Overcapacity: Despite having a low-yield well, the host operates 5 separate rental units on-site (the Castle, a Cottage, and 3 vintage campers) plus an on-site caretaker residence, potentially housing 15-20 occupants at once. Providing a maximum total of 720 gallons per day for 15+ people is physically insufficient for basic living, leading to inevitable water outages. ​Undisclosed Audio Recording: Following our report of the water issue, the host admitted in writing to reviewing video playback and listening to private audio recorded of my children on the drawbridge. Neither the listing description nor disclosures stated that devices captured audio: a major privacy breach and a violation of Washington State law. When confronted about the water outage, the host attempted to blame guests, claiming in the chat thread that "the tub takes 300+ gallons per bath." According to EPA and plumbing standards, an indoor 2-person spa tub holds 60 to 80 gallons. Exaggerating water capacity by 300%+ to cover up structural well limitations shows a complete lack of honesty and transparency. After being informed of state privacy rules regarding undisclosed audio recording, the host cut off communication and blocked us, rather than addressing the habitability issues in good faith.The property may look like a fairytale from the outside, but operating 5 separate listings on an inadequate water system, combined with illegal audio recording and retaliatory charges, made this stay stressful and unacceptable. I strongly advise future guests to exercise caution before booking.

The first time I did my tour here, I immediately clicked with Angela ---- she is so down to earth, knows her stuff and open to any and all ideas. I really appreciated how communicative she was throughout everything and helped make the process so smooth for my husband and I. The rooms were great (my bridesmaids used the castle) and groomsmen used the cottage. Both great locations and so spacious to get ready in. Nothing felt crowded and everyone could have their own space (we had 10 people total in the bridal party)! Now to talk about the wedding: 1. Highly encourage hiring Angela as the day of coordinator (she was efficient, great communicating with vendors, so talented in decorating for the wedding and one of the things we loved is Angela was great at checking in with everyone during the wedding but also never stepped on any toes. I had many family members comment on how they appreciated her thoughtfulness throughout the day checking in). 2. Parking was great and easy! Plenty of room for everyone. 3. Stay the night! It was great finishing the wedding and just being able to go into the castle and enjoy the night together. The venue is so beautiful and it was nice to stay and take in all the sights. 4.
