After growing a tad weary of the rising prices, diminishing variety of dishes at Temptations (is it now the Ipswich Buffet?) in Ipswich, my wife & I decided to try the then, recently opened Ebassy Oriental Buffet in Colchester. Oddly, some years ago, this restaurant was run under the Temptations banner! Strangely, as well, and similar to what happened at their Ipswich restaurant, wasn't there an alleged raid/incident with the police/immigration officials here at the Colchester buffet?? Anyway, whatever happened, Temptations in Colchester closed and remained so for some time before the site re-opened as the Embassy Buffet.
After Temptations prices, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the set price for lunch was just £4!! We were even more surprised at the variety & quality of the food on offer. Everything we tried was very tasty and kept hot. Empty trays were replenished quickly & filled to the top! They needed to be, as the place filled up very quickly. We tend to try and arrive as near as possible to opening time at noon, because by 12.30 or so, people are waiting for spaces to be seated, it is that popular. There are always quite a few Chinese couples eating in there too, which is a good indication in an oriental restaurant.
Another plus..........There are jugs of FREE tap water & glasses on the bar which you can help yourself to, so no need to be 'forced' into paying silly prices if all you want is a glass of water with our meal. FULL MARKS to the management for that one! Criticisms? Well, apart from the one 'Chefs Special' tray, the lunch-time menu dishes have stayed the same over the months we've been going there. It would be nice to try a few different dishes from time-to-time, but hey, for £4 I'm probably being too picky here!
We've been going there regularly for some months now and will continue to do so. Excellent value, great tasting food & pleasant staff. The Embassy deserves its full tables and undoubted success. read more
