I've been with AAA for 24 years. I've had towing and a smart home system for years with 2 cameras…read morea motion detector. In May 2026, I sold my property. Prior to moving I contacted AAA smart home security on Pacheco several time to notify them to cancel my service by May 27. I spoke to AAA multiple times before I moving and tried to have them to disconnect my system but was unable to fit me into their schedule. They told me they could walk me through disconnecting it but to be very careful not to damage it which was disappointing. Obviously, they don't have enough technicians.
I informed the representative that I was moving to a different state and once established in my home, I'd reach out to have the equipment installed. I noticed they kept asking if I wanted to continue with the security system and again I told them I'd be staying with family, therefore it wouldn't make sense to continue to keep the service and pay for something I'm not using.
I relocated in May, stayed with family..moved some of my belongings at the end of August.
During my transition, I kept getting calls/text about the alarm in California going off, explaining the property was sold and I moved on May 27, 2026.
On September 3, 2026, I received another call from AAA about the alarm going off, explained again the situation, the account had been closed down and why do they continue to call me. Someone finally listened and connected me to the cancellation department.
I had the unpleasant experience of speaking to a rude, disrespectful, arrogant, sarcastic person (David). I explained again, he said I didn't properly close out the account and AAA charged me from May-September. I said David you know this situation is right..David said "it doesn't matter if it's wrong or right..it's business". He was such an arrogant jerk. He said, I didn't properly close out the alarm system but was able to cancel it over the phone without my signature, so why wasn't that done In May.
After looking back, I realize AAA deliberately used specific language, doesn't explain the cancellation process clearly, they never informed me I hadn't completed the cancellation process even after multiple attempts to inform them.
After all that I still was charged for 3 months of service on a property I didn't reside in. Before I moved, I asked AAA if the service was supported in my new location, was told yes and I could transfer the service. That was a lie, AAA smart home is not supported in my area, so now I have a system I can't use. I had to get established with another alarm company.
I was also informed by David, now that the service was cancelled the remaining balance of $839.00 has to be paid within 30 days or I'd be sent to collections. I could hear David laugh at the end of our conversation.
I'd never recommend AAA smart home service to anyone. They lack supportive services, deliberately miscommunicates to continue to collect funds for unused services. They don't care about fairness or customer loyalty. Definitely no concern or respect for senior.
I don't know if they are just a poorly ran company, lack connectivity, poor customer service training or just dysfunctional. I can truly say... the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, all they care about is collecting those extra dollars to pad their pockets.
