I've been coming here for physical therapy after a car accident, and I have nothing but good things to say. From the jump, Rosie at the front desk has been so sweet and welcoming... it's always a good feeling walking into a place where the staff actually cares. Christian, my therapist, has been amazing... super attentive and helpful with my shoulder and lower back recovery. He's walked me through exercises that not only help me heal but also make me feel stronger and more in tune with my body. Overall, it's been a great experience. Another case of an HMO facility failing versus a PPO facility. What struck me most about this location was how old it appeared and how it was not designed to be a physical therapy office. It's more like a doctor's office with some workout equipment in the rooms. Everything is very old, and the therapists are nice, they are older and had very low energy when it came to manipulating my injury. I'm a muscular younger person, and frankly, I don't think that they are equipped to handle younger clientele. The people that were there before us were all well past 70, and my therapist really didn't have any insight on how to fix my injury other than coming in 10 times and getting machine work. I broke my shoulder and needed intense therapy in order to enable movement again. I was referred to EM Therapeutics by a friend who spoke very highly of them. My therapist Dr. Jordan is BEYOND!!!! He can always somehow tell what my body needs and works on exactly the right points! It's like he has a sixth sense! His therapy is SO effective and I can definitely feel the results! He also has excellent bedside manner. The office is clean and super sanitized and has air filters everywhere! When I went to my Dr. for a checkup he couldn't believe how well I was doing and attributed it to the professional therapy I am receiving. Everyone at the office is always lovely and accommodating. Absolutely shattered my clavicle and scapula in a nasty accident and after an 11 hour surgery and a couple months of solo rehab was recommended EM Therapeutics. I have yet to find an outpatient PT practice that doesn't feel like a complete waste of time and money. This one is no exception, I'm sorry to say, despite the Drs recommendation that brought me here. Drs it is very evident that you prescribe PT simply to get patients off your books. Drove an hour across town to get here. $7 parking. Therapist gave me the look up and down LA instant judgment assessment. Yes sir I am overweight due to my chronic auto immune condition and certainly not due to the fact that I haven't eaten grains, dairy or sugar for five years and am a trained nutritionist. Therapist spent MAYBE 15 minutes with me, total. The rest of his time was spent absent from my room, leaving me to do his suggested exercises alone. Hope I was doing them correctly. He wouldn't know since he wasn't there. In, out, in, out, he was obviously working with another patient at the same time as me. Not cool. Did 4 exercises that I could have Googled myself. This place was generic, and this dude did not have his head in the game. Drove another hour home in rush hour traffic. SUPER LAME. PT is a massive scam, people, you can do better with your own research on the net. OR, try to get your Dr to prescribe home PT, at least you're not wasting your valuable time commuting. read more

Arriving from New York on November 1st 2016, I felt muscle ache and numbness on my feet and toes. I had an MRI done showing a minimal disk bulge that could have caused my pain. Dr. Karns referred me to EM Therapeutics on Beverly Drive. I received a call from EM Therapeutics right away to schedule my appointments. Today is my last treatment session and my therapist, Paul Tran, was patient and understood my pain. He prescribed me the exercises that I needed. On my 2nd session I started feeling much better and the numbness on my feet/toes were gone (only had a little muscle pain). I am feeling great! Horrible customer services. Called the office today 12/15/2010 to make an appt for evaluation. The lady answered the phone on her speaker phone, I asked her nicely if she could pick up the phone because it was hard for me to hear. She said no because her hands are busy. wtf??? so rude. My back was really stiff to the point it was hard to walk. It felt like a really tight rubber band was holding me. With the combination of work EM Therapeutics did on my back and the stretches they gave me to do at home really loosened my back. I highly recommend this place. read more

This was my third session for PT. The front desk receptionist is lovely, efficient and friendly. I also worked with Carmen, who showed me different exercises, gave me several treatments and was the ultimate in professionalism. All was well until today after my treatment when I was yelled at by the "owner" saying that was your last treatment. He was rude, intrusive and completely inappropriate. I was in shock. The therapists were very knowledgeable in treating my shoulder condition. the staff was accommodating and very understanding, due to their flexibility I found no need to take additional time off work to fit my PT sessions in. Eli, my Therapist, was very welcoming, friendly,and most of all professional always going out of his way to walk me through the process and expectations for my therapy. My initial consultation at E M Therapeutics was with Carmen, who asked some questions but didn't physically examine me. She gave me some exercises to do and told me I would be having traction on my next appointment. When I checked, I discovered that Carmen is in fact an assistant and I requested to see a qualified therapist on my next visit. I got told they only have one, who is the owner Eli Marmur, and he is never there until 4 pm. So they open at 8 am but there are no physiotherapists there all day? I made an appointment for the following week. To my surprise, when Mr Marmur marched into the treatment room, he was extremely annoyed. He wanted to know why I had asked the receptionist so many questions, and why I didn't want to be treated by Carmen. He informed me that Carmen is not an assistant, but a Licensed Physiotherapist Assistant, who was better qualified than him. I told him that I felt Carmen was guessing when she gave me my diagnosis and he got even more annoyed. We moved on to the problem at hand. My shoulder injury. Mr Marmur gave me some exercises (which were different from the ones Carmen had given me) and told me he was not going to give me traction as this is a very drastic treatment. He didn't examine me before, or after, he gave me his diagnosis. Quote from website - "On the first visit, we will take your patients medical history and perform a thorough physical examination to determine the exact problem and the best treatment". I had two appointments with Mr Marmur which resulted in no improvement at all, and I was therefore surprised when he told me I would need only two more treatments to be fully recovered. I believe my insurance company had agreed to pay for four treatments. I came to the conclusion that Mr Marmur had no idea what exactly was wrong with me. When he treated my back by rubbing in gel, he asked me where the pain was. If he didn't know where the problem was, how would he know what the problem was, and what exactly was he treating me for? When I asked Mr Marmur what I should do if I experienced severe pain, he said I should stretch, and proceeded to show me an exercise that involved a table and a stool with wheels. Apart from the impracticality of this suggestion, I discovered later that this is in fact a stretch exercise for the lower back, which is nowhere near my shoulder. I decided not to have any more treatment at EM Therapeutics and stopped doing the exercises I had been given, which seemed to be aggravating my injury. Unusually, the website of this company does not list their employees' bios or their qualifications. It merely refers to them as "our wonderful staff," which leaves me wondering how many other assistants are diagnosing patients, and how many of those patients know whose hands their health is in. UPDATE 2/14/2016 I had an appointment with Joel Scherr on 3rd Street, who diagnosed my problem and relieved most of my pain in just one session. It seems he is the only physiotherapist in LA who knows what he is doing and is not ruled by how many appointments he can get out of patients. First off---when I called to arrange my first appointment, the receptionist over the phone said "well since you're female and the pain is in your upper body you probably want a female". Um actually, no, I would prefer a male but thanks for asking. So I see the female PT and literally for 3 full sessions all we did was heat therapy. She never showed me any stretches or anything of the sort. She never told me what she was doing and why. She once just started squirting petroleum jelly on my back then rubbing the ultrasound thing on me and never even said "hey I'm putting petroleum jelly on you for an ultrasound--it's helps relax muscles". I had to ask her what she was doing to my body and why it was helpful. She barely ever spoke a word to me and definitely didn't try to get to know me. She would have me change into a gown before the session but never closed the door for me when the session was over for me to change? Like, I had to follow her out the door and shut it behind her so I could change. And then all of a sudden I show up for my 4th session. She is at the front desk and asks me my last name---as if she had never seen me before. She then proceeds to tell me I'll be with another PT........uh......ok? Why? So then I work with a male PT and OMG he was so much better and showed me a lot of exercises. My 5th and 6th session were with him. My last and final session was at 8am. I got to the office at 8am, no one came to great me or look for me but I could hear music playing. I wait until about 8:15 and then I get up and go to where the music is. There I see my PT with his LEGS ON THE TABLE just sitting g there?!?! Uhhhhh hello????????? You had a patient coming at 8am!!!!!!! Why would you not go check the front lobby at 8:05???? That same session he also forget entirely where my pain was--understandable but I also work in health care and I definitely do not go into a patients room without looking at their chart first to see what is wrong. I would not recommend EM Therapeutics to anyone. I had an evaluation with the owner. He basically told me that their job is to show me the exercises and for me to do them at home. I had 3 approved visits from the insurance and he said I did not need them. I think he must not know the job of a physical therapist. I wrote a letter to the medical group and told them I was horrified that they could have them as the only physical therapist. Please save your self the trouble and go somewhere else. read more

What a shame. Pro to this place is Carmen, the PT assistant who is knowledgable and caring. What a shame she works in this pit! Let's start with first impressions. 1.) walk in to drop off authorization form and is greeted by Rosie the (and I use this term loosely) receptionist. She is talking on her cell phone, which they have several signs stating no cell phones, talking on a personal call and signals me one minute! Seriously! I'm to wait for you to finish you personal call before you assist me the client. First impression are everything and it has only gone down hill from there. Fernando the PT that evaluated me, didn't even bother reading my paper work to see what my past medical and present medical conditions were. Again, seriously! He kept asking me questions that didn't have anything to do with me or were already in my profile work that you fill out for him. Yes, I was stupid enough to continue the process. Really need to start listening to the signs that are given to know when to run! Well it turns out that this is the same place that a friend was referred to but they never called him back after 6 attempts. No lies. Now I see why. To continue, this Rosie woman has no idea or understanding of what compassion or courtesy is and does not no how to say please or thank you, seriously. She states at your first appointment she calls everyone to reconfirm their appointments the day before. Have never heard from her! That would be let down/lie #1. Let down/lie #2 is that she continues to tell you that your health program has not approved your PT and is not yet confirmed. It was pre-approved before I came to this place and was in the computer. Went today and she had written my name down incorrect and when I told her ( as a courtesy )that and that Carmen changed it for tomorrow she got all bent out of shape because Carmen is not supposed to touch the appointment book. I tried to explain to her that Carmen just corrected my name due to your mistake. Still did not matter. This woman should not be in this field. She doesn't have the concept of customer service nor does she care about their patients. It is because of her and the PT I will not return. If I could see just Carmen without the trouble and strain one must go through with Rosie and the others I would. I have cancelled all appointments because of Rosie and will not return, EVER! Dangerous! Before I cancelled all appointments, I tried making an appointment for the following week, good luck. They will not make an appointment until you have completed ALL your PT for the week which leaves few to none available when it comes to make yours! So basically they are running this place from week to week. That was the last straw and this is not a business I want to be associated with or trust with my health! I hope you would not trust Rosie and the people she represents. This is health care at its worst. The very worst. In a city as ours there are to many choices and others to go to and that is what I have done even if it costs me a bit more. After all it is my body and my health and Rosie certainly doesn't care about it but you should and act on something when it is wrong and people who you've seen 4 times already and can't even remember your name, well that was the final nail in the preferable coffin. Stay away and be safe going else where! This is not my first time dealing with physical therapy and am used to a caring and comfortable environment and with people who care. I truly believe Rosie has never been asked why or questioned and this is where her problems start with dealing with people. Dr. Paul Tran is an accomplished professional. He worked with me and was able to diagnose and pinpoint my muscular/ligament trigger. He was thorough, knowledgeable, and additionally introduced me to a variety of proper physical therapy exercises to help deal with my problem. I look forward to seeing him again. I never give anything five stars because no one is perfect, but Eli is legit. I had been struggling with bone growth on my kneecap for eight months that was literally poking the hell out of me. My leg was atrophied from months of no exercise and it really took a toll on my mental state. Eli's patience, knowledge and creative and fun exercises give me determination and confidence. I was a soccer goalie in my "former" life (which got me into this whole mess 11 years later), and after 2 1/2 months of PT, Eli tested me yesterday and had me block his shots on goal. I found EM quite recently after I needed physical therapy for a car accident I was in (someone crashed into me while I was driving on PCH in Malibu). I've never had physical therapy before and was a bit skeptical and annoyed I had to add this into my already hectic schedule. Here's what I can tell you: Eli and his entire office are FANTASTIC. His office is in a great location (near Olympic and Beverly Drive) with plenty of metered parking (my time is precious and I hate spending an extra 20 mins looking for parking---this place is easy). The office itself is spacious, clean and organized, with individual treatment rooms. Eli personally sat down and talked with me about what specific areas were hurting and had me first do some exercises (holding various weights and equipment) so he could see precisely what agitated my injury...and then we got to work with heat, electrodes, massages and a list of exercises I do at home in the morning and evenings. I still have several treatments to go before I go back to my doctor again, but I'm so glad I found this place! Being in pain, of any, kind sucks...Eli makes it better. read more
