Just had a fireplace checkup and tutorial on a gas log fireplace in a 28 year old home I just purchased last October. Jon was very knowledgeable about my gas log and chimney and was very patient to teach me how to use the fireplace and make certain to use the flue correctly. He inspected the chimney and was pleased to tell me that the fix that was previously done for water damage had been done very well. I was very happy to know there would be no further costs to repair previous issues with the chimney! Jon also educated me on the different types of gas logs and the proper size that would look best in my fireplace. It was the best $95.00 I have spent on this house yet! Lead Tech John came to inspect leak into Firebox, guaranteed all It needed was a sealant,Paid for extra ground up coverage just to be sure. $1,050 for 45 mins of work. Still leaking, same day. (told me this is money well spent) work guaranteed. Still leaking. Informed him & I was ignored, never sent receipts as well. Made new appointment for still leaking issue now it's another $1700 and nothing will be credited to me. I wld have paid that the first time but I was told the sealant was the problem, paid for it & told it wld fix it right away. I am a single mother, I work hard, I trusted his word and took food off my plate for this repair. I even pointed out where I thought the issue was and advised again it was only the Sealant. This is cruel, and Sad they won't make it right or at least give me some kind of credit for what I did pay that didnt fix it. If you work HARD for a living DO NOT USE ELY STOKES !!!!!! read more

Expensive for a simple fireplace cleaning. Technician was competent but not very responsive to my questions. They probably spent 15 minutes cleaning my fireplace. Overall the experience was just ok. I'll probably look elsewhere for my future fireplace maintenance needs. read more

Had them come over to check my broken flue damper and clean my chimney, charged to clean but told me at first I'd need a top damper to then find out I cant use a top damper then told I can have glass insert doors put on that would seal the prefab fireplace then told those would not seal the fireplace, so basically cleaned a fireplace that cant be repaired and led me on a wild goose chase that ended in nothing, then they wouldn't respond to emails. They owe me the cleaning fee. read more

I have been looking for somebody to come and look at my fireplace. I was in a bit of a rush, hoping that I can get it up and running this season so I called the first person that came up in the search for fireplaces. They had a really quick response time which I like. I wish I would've got a courtesy call when the service man was on his way, but they did show up on the schedule appointment time on the list. We had Ely Stokes come out and replace our gas logs. John arrived on time, put on his shoe covers and uninstalled the current gas logs. He put down a tarp and was very clean. Installed the new gas logs with a switch. He was very professional and efficient. He explained what he was doing and what we needed to do to operate the new logs. Explained how to light the pilot light if it goes out. Made them look really nice. They work great. He cleaned up everything like he was never there. We highly recommend Ely Stokes for your fireplace needs. They are extremely professional and do great work. I used this company after buying a house and the seller paid to have them come out to fix the fireplace. They were the ones that came to inspect the fireplace and notified me of what needed to be fixed to get it safe to use. There scheduling is varied and usually a longer time frame than preferred. But I scheduled them to come out. They showed up 3 hours late. They did the work, though left my house incredibly dusty after the work (guess clean up is not part of the deal). They told me they would have to come back in a few days to check it. Their hours are only during weekdays and during the day so I had to take off work again for them to come back. The guy never showed up, so when I called them they said he wasn't available that day (guess they only have a few workers) and they had to reschedule. So I had to take off a third day of work to get them to come back and he did more work on the fireplace and again left it dusty. Later on the fireplace started leaking on a heavy rain day, so I called them to let them know. They said they could get someone out to look at it the following week. So I put a bucket in the fireplace to catch the water. The day the guy was supposed to come back, I took of work again to let him in. And he never showed up. I called to see what was happening and they told me the guy stopped by to look at the outside of the house earlier in the day (not the time we scheduled and nobody informed me that he would just look at the outside when the inside was leaking). So I took off an extra day from work in vain and I had to reach out to them, they never reached out to me. They told me if the problem continues then they would come by and give me an estimate for how much it would be to fix the leak. Meanwhile it was leaking and he didn't fix whatever it was in the first place, since they were the ones who told me initially what was wrong with it. Moral of the story, I would never use this company again. Take caution if you do. read more

Stephanie in the showroom helped us pick out exactly what we were looking for. She was knowledgeable about the types of logs (vented, pilots, remotes, styles, etc) and was able to special order a specific log design. Logs were installed a week later by John who arrived on time, put down tarps and was very neat, meticulously arranged the the sand, embers, and logs, and answered my numerous questions about the pilot light and damper. We are very happy with the gas logs and the service we received. The logs were priced similar to other log vendors' but their install price was lower. read more

I am puzzled by a lack of response, especially after I had a good experience with the company in Feb 2023 and left a 5-star Google review accordingly . . . One of my kudos in that review was, "...They also identified other pre-existing conditions with the chimney that need attention and offered to share estimates with me, which I accepted. No pressure, no upselling... just the facts". About a month ago I called in for an estimate on one of the pre-existing conditions, which is that the exterior chimney mortar has deteriorated above the roof line and that portion of the chimney needs to be reconstructed. After at least 2 follow-up attempts, I have yet to be contacted. Not sure if I said anything that teed them off back in Feb, if communication has become an issue with them, or if they just don't want to take on this kind of a job any more. read more

The house was 60+ years old. The chimney had been tuck pointed, re-sealed, everything, flashing was fine, but there was still a leak. It was recommended that the chimney needed to be rebuilt. Ugh! I would not recommend this company if you are needing help, we called about removing a wood burning stove, the receptionist said it would not be a problem that the company removes them all the time, after going back and forth over a week we where in a time crunch and need the stove out prior to flooring, after sending pictures and emails and going back and forth, I finally had to call again just to hear them say they are to busy right now to do such a thing, I spoke with a manager that simply said the receptionist mislead me and that was it. We had our fireplace inspected by Ely Stones in May 2021 by Josh. When we went into their office to discuss our options, we were told by James our fireplace was unsafe and not to use it. Based on the pictures they took during the inspection, he suggested the whole fireplace had to be replaced which he approximated the cost yo be on excess of 20k. Promised to send us an estimate. After calling over 5 times to follow up on the estimate, we never received a call back or the estimate. I have called their office several times requesting the pictures they took so I can have for my records. They have not sent the pictures to date. I do not recommend this company. Nice people presale, no customer service post sale if problems occur. I quit wanting to deal with my wood burning fireplace and decided I wanted gas logs and went to Eli Stokes' store. I left them top reviews as they scheduled the work, and their people and sub-contractor seemed pleasant and efficient. Then the device quit working in less than 2 weeks, they tried to fix it 5 weeks later, it failed again, and they changed their story about what was wrong. I paid $2,543.75 for logs where, if I wish to use them, I must crawl on the floor, dismantle the logs, wipe down around the pilot, relight and reassemble every few days. I asked them what's wrong but they will not even respond to my e-mails now they have cashed my checks. read more

I scheduled chimney cleaning and inspection and that got cancelled because worker was sick, no problem. Then I rescheduled it and almost got that one cancelled because technician was 20 minutes late ( in the meantime trying to tell me that he is on time). I called to set up a time to have the chimney inspected on a home that we are under contract to purchase. Initially, the scheduler I spoke with told me that due to the busy season, they were pretty booked up and she could schedule me in about a week from the date of my call. I explained the situation and my timelines and she asked to put me on hold, came back after a few minutes and when she returned, she had worked me in within 3 days! Needless to say, I was pleased. The day of my appointment, John was there as scheduled and was really knowledgeable. I did upgrade from a standard inspection to a camera inspection (with the associated price increase) but with that increased level of inspection, an issue was identified that likely wouldn't have been found. We had a chimney sweep and inspection completed on November 19, 2019 and were told our chimney was not in working condition. We were promised a quote on the repairs within a week. I reached out to the company two weeks after the inspection and received no response, nor have we received the promised quote on repairs in the month and a half since. I had an inspection done last year by Ely Stokes after a condo in my community had a fire in their fireplace. The inspector told me that my fireplace was unsafe and had a ring that was completely rusted out just about the box going up into the chimney. He showed me pictures of what was supposed to be the inside of my fireplace. I was told that it all needed to be replaced and was unsafe to use. The quote I received was 10,000 to have this all done. I finally had a second inspection done last week and found out that there is nothing wrong with my fireplace absolutely no rust and it doesn't even need swept. I even asked the inspector 5 times to double check before I told him about my previous inspection. He even knew what company it was with out me even telling him. I can't believe a company would be so dishonest and try to take advantage of someone like that. The chimney sweep showed up an hour after the given hour-long window of time and did not apologize or acknowledge his lateness at all. There was no call to let me know he was running behind either. When I called the office after waiting for an extra half hour, the woman just told me that he was running behind and that's how it is with services like these. I foolishly asked him about my discounted price before he showed me the total. He had written up a lower amount, and my question made him catch it, so he charged me the higher amount.
