My experience with John and both crews has been really good. John listens carefully, helps make decisions, and the crew then implements. We contracted them to fix some low areas in our lawn, aerate and over-seed. Overall the price was about the best we got. And while the overall initial service and communication was good, the final result was less than ideal. Not being a pro at landscaping myself, I wish they would've been more instructive with the straw they used. It ended up getting matted and looks like developed mold. I plan to dethatch and start over this fall, but better instructions on raking would have been appreciated. read more

Extremely pleased with the outcome of our project. New paver walkway into the entrance to our home. Flower bed reworked and set off with Belgium block boarder. General cleanup and pruning of shrubs and branches in woodland area behind property. Kevin understood what we wanted to accomplish and his crew worked for two days to deliver to make our ideas a reality. The crew was respectful of the property, cleaning as they worked and the cost of the project was reasonable compared to others. Not honest or reliable- Others will think twice before considering Ed for landscaping projects once they are aware of how I have been treated after spending tens of thousands of dollars with him over the past 3 years. Here are just a few recent examples: 1. Invoiced 30% more than the quote on the last project because of an inaccurate quote and didn't notify me once it was discovered the cost may be hirer, just sent the hirer invoice (this past invoice was 30% hirer than the quote.) Then acted like I was in the wrong for confronting him regarding it. 2. Repeated attempts to contact Ed were not returned in August. I have seen other reviews online that reference that phone calls are not returned. 3. Caused damage to my property while performing work and didn't notify me of the damage, left me to discover it and didn't take accountability. 4. Delivered 3 and 4 inch stone and tried to pass it off as the 2 inch stone that I ordered. When spending this kind of money I expect to get exactly the service I want with professionalism/courtesy when returning calls. read more

The team sent out to do the job at our home were polite, gave detail on the layout and executed the same day. They did well with our initial Landscaping but I had one plant (Skip Laurel) that did not survive. I emailed the office and they got back to me and said it was still within the year warranty and they would bring it out when they were in the area. That was May 23 and it's now Friday night July 20th. I even emailed them back in the middle of June to ask about it and ( I Know you can't tell tone in an email) they sounded really frustrated that I would even ask! Told me they would be in my neighborhood soon. I've seen their trucks at least 5-6 times since then! I've emailed this week and I have gotten no response. Guess I won't be using Elvira anymore!!! I give it 2 stars because Joe was great when we originally had the work done. He was always willing to answer question and was always courteous about getting back to me. Joe has since retired. I have used Elvira Landscaping for years and years. They put down about 10 yards of mulch on my property every other year and perform yearly clean up. I have ALWAYS been pleased by their work and happy with the polite men that work for them. My yard is my favorite part of my home, and it is important to me that it be done well. They have always, at my request, put down a 4 inch layer of mulch. I highly recommend them! read more

The work done by Elvira Landscaping is not as professional looking as the work done at our former home by Blue Ridge Landscaping who was unavailable and now doing primarily commercial work. However, it is satisfactory. But I would never use Elvira Landscaping again, mainly because of price and poor communication. For example: 1) Of course they wanted the $5800 deposit immediately, after which I didn't hear from them for almost a month. When I called to inquire, there were mutterings about a mixup and then started the next day. They commented about the amount of rain causing scheduling issues, but good customer service would dictate that they call and keep a customer updated. 2) One to three guys showed up on most days, but we were never sure when or if they were coming. Because the project seemed to drag on, it was necessary for us to carry on with our own commitments. So a couple of times, I was not there when they needed to ask a question and needed to rush home from where I was. 3) Communications with the office manager were by e-mail. Almost every time, he/she forgot to send me an attachment (copy of the proposal initially); later on, copies that I could not open (instructions for plant care). In response to my complaint about the dwarf Japanese maple referenced below, I was told he/she would share my comments with the owner, Ed. I never got a call back--only another bill. 4) There had been leftover block at the conclusion of the work, but before the cleanup crew came (there is still gravel in the yard and cement run-off killing grass). Where they added dirt and seed along the new walkway, I have had a wonderful crop of unsightly weeds. At cleanup, they took the block which I figure we paid for. Regardless, when I inquired about it, there was no response. 5) At the last minute we decided to add a dwarf Japanese maple for which I was billed $349.00 (we had already paid $11,979 at this point). While I had agreed for them to put in the dwarf Japanese maple, I was not informed ahead of time of the cost. After I asked if they had to go to Japan to get it, they sent me a proposal for the tree which I had neither seen nor signed before it was planted. I take partial responsibility for the situation because I failed to get multiple estimates. I feel any decent landscaper could have done the work, so I should have gotten estimates. While we had paid $15,000 for landscaping at our former home (about five years ago), the work was far more extensive and the end result far more professional, attractive, and worth the money. read more

I have used Elvira Landscaping every Spring for everything from landscaping, mulching, and even building a patio with seating area and a grill enclosure and can honestly say I have been 100% satisfied with each and every project. All of the landscaping and hardscaping work was poorly done. The crew disregarded instructions to remove old landscaping fabric. They dumped debris (water bottles, bricks, etc) into the flower bed and then covered it with a thin layer of mulch. Sloppy brickwork on the retaining wall. Had to have it redone by another professional landscaper. The grass seed they used was cheap and had a lot of weeds in it. I would not recommend this landscape company for landscaping or hardscaping. Yes they are usually the lowest bidder, but you will not be happy with the results. read more

We hired Elvira Landscaping to do a patio for us. Even though we had agreed on a price for the patio that included the length of the patio wall,,,,the day of completion, they had left 4 feet of wall un completed. When I mentioned this to Ed Elvira, he said that was not part of the original plan. I produced the original plans and drawings of the project which showed that it was INDEED part of the original plan. He still disputed this and did not agree to complete the work until I threatened to sue. 2 years later,,,,, my patio wall is falling over, the pavers are sinking and the whole project looks like crap. Since then I have talked with several friends and neighbors who have used Elvira Landscaping and have told me that they have had very similar experiences with them. My advice to you is to NEVER use Elvira Landscaping. Ed is a dishonest, corner cutting, crappy workmanship contractor who should NEVER be allowed to even possess a business license to begin with. If I had a choice I would give Elvira a Negative Star review. But I had to select at least one Star to write this. He is not worthy of even that one star. read more
