No matter how long you stay in the carpark between the two times - there's a simple flat fee of £1.50. Bargain? Bargain! That means that if you're off into town for the Cinema or the like, it's actually a LOT cheaper to drive in than it is to get the Subway or the bus. Especially if there's more than one of you. Plus, Cambridge Street carpark is brightly lit and secure - if you want to get into the building as a pedestrian you have to swipe a valid carparking ticket. It's also never busy, which means you'll always be able to get a space on the ground floor within about ten paces from the pay station. Ah, my nightly cinema trips will never be the same......

Indeed, it does. However, sometimes in order to get to these funky happening places you need to park your car. Being a mainly public transport or walking type of girl, this is something which ordinarily doesn't occur to me. Yet, on entering a course last week I was shocked that when someone asked me about the nearest car park I really had to think about it. Furthermore, I could not for the life of me explain where it was (I am truly terrible at giving directions). And so, I decided this was a necessary review. This car park is fairly big (in West End standards) and is located just behind the Marks and Spencers off of Byres Road and Ashton Lane. From this, you'll realise how handy it is for the buzz of Byres Road and 'The Lane'. It's a Glagsow City Council Car Park so prices are average (I think) andit's very cheap for an all day ticket on Sundays. Perfect, for a spot of West End Sunday shopping and eating. Meanwhile, it tends to be quieter than the other car park which is more easily noticeable from Byres Road so there's always a good chance that you'll find a space or that one will quickly become available.

I rather fancied some of the nicely presented salads and sandwiches coming out of the Mitchell's cafe, but as it wasn't lunch o'clock I didn't bite. Last year I attended a talk by AC Grayling in the comfortable and perfectly formed lecture theatre (part of the Aye Write Festival I think), and more recently was blown away by the George Wyllie Retrospective. The world could do with more George Wyllies! His sculptures, installations, art and poetry are enough to make a career curmudgeon smile. I think the exhibition is running for a few more months yet. Go there! If you have just half an hour to spare, do step into the permanent puppet exhibition to the right of the main reception desk. Some of those puppets are over a thousand years old and hail from all corners of the world. They don't seem to mind if you want to snap away and take photos. Would definitely recommend a visit to the Mitchell Library. Oh, and they have lots of books too.

It's a perfect car park if you want to access Sauchiehall Street it's not far to Buchanan Galleries or the Royal Concert Hall, just a few blocks' walk. It's a clean, well looked after, multi-story with 377 spaces and open 24/7, so you don't have to worry about getting back late after a show and finding the gate closed!! One hour costs £1.30 and it goes up around £2 an hour after that 5 hours is £8.50. Sunday all day is just £4.

So…read moreinstead I'm reviewing it in its capacity as an exhibition space and as a place on campus to get a bite to eat. As you enter the Wolfson you find yourself in a large, white, bright space known as the atrium. There's a little art on the walls and a cafe the's accessed on the far side away from the main entrance. This atrium is occasionally used as a function room or as an exhibition space. I've been involved with a few events here, mostly for the Glasgow Science Festival, where it has proven to be ideal for setting up stalls and talking to guests about science (or whatever else, according to your events theme). Students already get free WiFi here through the eduroam network and guest WiFi is also sometimes available during events. Power points are plentiful (very helpful when running events) and the natural light coming in from above is refreshing and easy on the eyes. The cafe is part of the University of Glasgow's catering services. Arguably university catering is probably the thing I hear Glasgow University students (and sometimes staff) complaining about more often than any other aspect of the university. However, if you're after a cheap soup, sandwich, baked potato or other basic meal, or a coffee and a cake, then you'll struggle to find much cheaper in the West End than you can get at the University Cafes. To give the staff their credit this can also make for a very quick lunch since they are super efficient. Do have a good look at what you're buying though - occasionally things aren't quite as fresh as you'd hope.

It's a multi purpose building that mainly services - you've guessed it - medical students. However, it is open to other students who can use the computer lab facilities throughout the building as well as a rather pleasant - if slightly run of the mill - cafe on the ground floor. Meanwhile, it offers very good facilities for non-students too. For instance, there is a reasonable space for parking behind this building which is often overlooked. Thus, is always a good bet if you are looking for a parking space slightly off the main Byres Road drag. Likewise, there is a little roll van parked behind this building which offers cheap cups of tea and rolls and sausage. For the more health conscious among you there are ample bike 'parking' railings just outside the main door. These can be chockablock at peak times, but for the most part are quieter than other round about this area. All in all, a good place to know that provides some very handy and lesser known facilities for nothing (or next to nothing).

Someone (not me, honest) has had a few drinks and gets off here to visit some more local beverage establishments. You come up the stairs from the platforms, through the gate, and you see A HUGE ESCALATOR leading up to the main road. Do you a) be sensible and get the UP escalator in comfort and enjoy the ride? or b) Get your friend to go up, film you running up the down escalator while laughing uncontrollably and declaring that you're drunk? If the answer is b then you'll love this station, although they do discourage the whole running up the down side these days. YouTube proof does exist, but that remains a secret from this site. A handy station for West End Wanderings, close to several great pubs and eateries, and some excellent street art outside; mental purple squirrels, no less!

It's a tiny little sub-station, no where near as grand as the Buchanan Street or Govan stations,…read morebut it does its work. Located under the bridge off Great Western Road, it's got facilities for the 'park and ride' scheme, which, in this day of conservation is a truly excellent idea. It's got an intuitive layout; a main entrance under the bridge, an escalator entrance from the bridge itself, and, if you feel like walking down stairs rather than being carried down, you can use the side stairs. If you use the side stairs, you get a very good look at some excellent graffiti underneath. Don't get me wrong, this is GOOD graffiti. Artistic, and a few times I have seen a fashion shoot going on under those stairs. (Be wary of late at night though, I've seen other things happen under that bridge also, which aren't suitable for children). As a frequent flyer, I often get recognised by the staff, and they're friendly if you let them. They don't just have to be the person on the other side of the glass. In fact, I once brought a coffee to the guy who sells me my ticket every morning. Got a free ride for that one, but that wasn't my intent. He's just a nice guy. One of the cleaner stations of the Clockwork Orange. But, I will admit, since this place is a lot of staircases, it's a royal pain when the escalators aren't working.

I pass through this station most days and the staff are always really friendly; one cheerful ticket lady ushered me through the barrier for free when I passed through on new year's eve, which was a nice wee festive treat. There's rarely a queue, the staff are lovely and it's ideally located for those holidaying in one of the nearby hotels or for locals heading to work or into town. An ideal wee station.

Charing Cross is definitely one of the better Scotrail train stations. Located, would you believe…read moreit, at Charing Cross, it's the perfect place to hop off the train for a night out on Sauchiehall or Bath Streets. It's also very close to the King's Theatre and the Mitchell Library. There are no barriers in opertion at this station, so it's quick in and out. The only obstacle is the stairs, but you can always take the lift if you're feeling lazy! Lines operate from Drumgelloch and Springburn to Milngavie, Helensburgh, and Balloch. There's also a wee WH Smith, which is quite expensive but they often have deals on chocolate and it's great for picking up your morning paper. Another added bonus is that when you're heading east you beat the rush for seats that follows at Queen Street. Brilliant!
