St Enoch Centre Car Park

Do you really, really like driving around in circles? If so, this is the car park for you. You'll…read moreenter from Clyde Street and make your way up the ramp, and then you'll feel like you're circling up and up the car park for days before you get to a free spot. This wouldn't be so bad but for the fact that the whole car park seems very narrow and you'll be constantly worried about hitting walls or other cars. For 1 hour parking it's £1.50 which is pretty good for city centre parking. For any longer than that though, I'd recommended parking at King St car park instead as it's cheaper - for example, if you are parking for 9 hours it's £15 at St Enoch or £5 at King Street. Huge difference! I also think the opening hours of this car park are pretty poor and you could get caught out by it closing at 8pm most nights. I was recently at a late night shopping event at Debenhams but the car park didn't stay open late for the event - I'm just glad I checked otherwise that could have been a nightmare.
NCP King Street Car Park

We used to park here pretty much every time we came into town but I got emotionally worn down by those ticket re-sellers and after an agressive confrontation, stopped parking here. (If you don't know, this car park used to have paper ticket machines, which people would ask you to give to them when you left. They would then try to re-sell your ticket to people entering the car park and had a tendency to get a bit shouty if you refused). Thankfully now the paper tickets have been replaced by parking machines where you input your car registration to pay. If you don't have change, you can do it by phone (or app) and once you've called one, it will remember your car details and card so it is really quick to process. That, combined with the fact that city centre parking is now £3 an hour, this is a good place to park if you're going to be out in Merchant City. I paid £6.40 (including the phone payment fee of 40p) for 10 hours parking yesterday. The downsides of this car park: it's not in the nicest part of town, the car park itself is filled with holes and there aren't really properly marked lines. I'm not sure how safe your car actually is here seeing as it's just an open space, that being said I've never had any problems. It's super handy for St Enoch shopping centre, and the parking here is considerably cheaper than the St Enoch mutli storey.

It's a multi storey car park and is very clean and spacious but the price way more expensive than King Street so I just can't give it more than 3 star. For parking 7 hours here it was £12.50 (OUCH) whereas King Street is just under £6. There's lifts, disabled access and easy-to-use pay stations. Still, way too pricey.

I…read morediscovered that the Cambridge Street Car Park (which is the one just about opposite Cowcaddens Subway Station) does a special offer on parking from 6pm to 6am. No matter how long you stay in the carpark between the two times - there's a simple flat fee of £1.50. Bargain? Bargain! That means that if you're off into town for the Cinema or the like, it's actually a LOT cheaper to drive in than it is to get the Subway or the bus. Especially if there's more than one of you. Plus, Cambridge Street carpark is brightly lit and secure - if you want to get into the building as a pedestrian you have to swipe a valid carparking ticket. It's also never busy, which means you'll always be able to get a space on the ground floor within about ten paces from the pay station. Ah, my nightly cinema trips will never be the same......

The smooth, black tarmac, the bold white lines, the striking breezeblock architecture, and not forgetting the glistening pay-and-display machines, I think I need a lie down.... I prefer King Street as it's cheaper, but when you're hauling a huge load of stuff and don't have much time, Glasshouse might be more convenient. It's a multi-storey car park with the entrance at street level, and then you head up a windy ramp to the entrance. I don't think the prices are shown at street level so once you're up there, you're kind of stuck (although I think you can leave within 10 minutes if you decide the prices are too steep). It's a lot more expensive than the King Street car park (here it's about £10 for 3 hours) but it is further into the heart of Merchant City and indoors so that might make it worth your while. There's pay machines on the ground floor as well as on level 3 and the pedestrian exit takes you out by the Casino. It takes card and cash. I struggled to find the pedestrian exit again when I was returning so a few more signs could be helpful, it's further down the street than you'd expect!

Anyway, it's a little, two platform commuter route station. It's used heavily be Strathclyde University students thanks to its proximity to the university but it's also handy for other things including the Royal Infirmary, the Cathedral and the Necropolis. Not to mention the Merchant City, Duke Street and Drygate. If you're exploring this part of Glasgow, this is the station you want. Trains shuttle back and forth between Glasgow Queen Street and Helensburgh as well as Airdrie, Balloch, Milngavie and Yoker and are pretty frequent. There's also a few that head to Edinburgh Waverley. There's no car park and if it has bike racks I've never spotted them. Bus stops can't be far away though and the ubiquitous black cab is easy to find nearby. The station isn't great for accessibility - it has stairs to the platforms but no ramps or lifts. Hopefully it will be upgraded to sort this out at some point, but given rumours of it's closure, I'm not so sure.

Recently though I've started parking at King Street when I visit town as it's a bit cheaper than here. Anyway, I returned to park here today. Good things about the carpark include: - Pretty spacious spaces. I like that you don't feel too cramped driving around the car park and you aren't too close to the car next to you either (unless they can't park properly which is a whole other story). - Great location, as mentioned above. It's handy for Buchanan Street, Sauchiehall Street, concerts at the Theatre Royal and assorted stuff around that area. Not so good things include: - Parking meters on the ground floor only, as Sharon M said. I had even read her review before going here today and STILL walked up a flight of stairs before I heard her voice in my head saying "ground floor only!" and having to head back down again. - Today the top level was closed because of the snow. The carpark was very nearly full which would've been quite annoying. - The payment machines don't always work so you might want to make sure you have coins as back up. - It's not cheap - especially compared to King Street. 3 hours here is £5, up to 10 hours at King Street is £5. Pah!
