Three words: Heaven on earth…read more Dave and Allison are the warmest, most welcoming people we know of. They are hard workers with an understanding of the delicate balance between work and play. Their home like a hug and a massage, and you feel it as soon as you arrive. The setting is on a hill in the valley, with the backdrop of the mountain around and some orchards below and Vineyards in the distance. With plenty of trees, a pond and some bog, this land is home to a lot of wildlife. You will hear quails calling in the day, and then crickets chirping and Coyotes yip-yipping during the night. Countless bird songs are the backdrop on this sound stage. The upstairs common area includes the kitchen, living and dining room, but mostly the breakfasts are served on the very spacious deck overlooking the fabulous view. Allison makes awesome Waffles, served with fresh local fruit and fruit creams, home made Buckwheat or Oat Granola, with choices like home made Almond, milk, or Soy. They serve only non GMO, Organic, and mostly locally grown foods and Dave makes really good coffee too. They are excellent conversationalists. Great listeners and always willing to share what they know about the valley and learn from the people they meet. They have a very wonderful energy. Downstairs we find a table with fixings for Tea or Coffee. Then the simple and elegant woodsy log cabin styled guest rooms with comfy beds, wood beamed ceilings and hardwood flooring. Each room has a sink, comfortable chairs to sit and enjoy the beautiful cross breeze you get from all the windows. The smell of the garden wafts in having an aroma-therapeutic affect that calms the nerves. The bathroom has a shower and a large tub set in front of a window with a breathtaking view. The tiled floors can be heated in cool times. I haven't been this relaxed in a very long time. Can't wait to return. :-)

This high sagebrush desert ( in this case of British Columbia) is very similar to where my Mom grew up in Utah ( Butterfield canyon) and also central Oregon ( Smith Rocks) where her folks spent the last 30 years. My Mom with early stages dementia was like a small innocent child savoring fresh fruits, milk, eggs and buckwheat pancakes. I am not generally a fan of Chardonnays, but I really enjoyed the Crowsnest wine.

With all the rain this year the wildflowers were out in full force and a plethora of shades of green everywhere. The Inn is beautifully located with so many fun rooms to choose from. The hosts are friendly and so accommodating with delicious food to meet the needs of my husband who must eat gluten free. The grounds are beautiful, views spectacular and we soaked in the sounds of birds and tranquility. We are really hoping we can come back and visit. I highly recommend staying at the Inn. The hosts will also accommodate for lunches, dinners and weddings. They are amazing people.

If you enjoy the outdoors, you will love Buena Vista. My husband and took in the beautiful, rolling hills on our morning run and it was peaceful and serene. The breakfasts were absolutely perfect. The coffee was good and hospitality was warm and inviting. The hostess, Patti, is so kind and accommodating, we didn't want to leave! There is also the sweetest cat that comes to visit, so if you're like me and obsessed with cats, Rosebud is the cherry on top of an already perfect stay. (If you're allergic, Patti will keep her put away) We will definitely be back. We highly recommend you visit.

In the little cottage…read moremy little sister cooked a 3 cup chicken dish for the family using a hot plate and it worked well. Taiwanese people will understand the naming of this dish. Alan and wife are great hosts. Let the tell you about their farming of apples. You will be impressed. They have a little garden and we could even pick some of the fresh vegetables for dinner. I even wrote a poem about their place. Ask them if they still have it. If you get lucky to book the place just remember to enjoy every minute. It will give you great memories to bring home.

If you enjoy wine tasting as we do, it's a perfect jumping off spot for the southern Okanagan.

If you like consistency, wifi and satellite TV...please move on. This place is not for you. But, if you like to explore finding new things around every corner, enjoying the simple things in life like amazing food (the breakfasts are insanely good - i will venture to say the best breakfast buffet I have ever had!), strolls in the hills, wine and cheese in your own little corner with view, picking fresh fruit from trees (the most amazing yellow plums, apricots, pears etc), star gazing, late night hot tub and lounging by the pool... then please do not miss this place. The details are too long an involved to go into, but suffice it to say in a three night stay, the evening meals two of the three nights were 2 hour almost comical mis-adventures. After the last meal, capped off by the smell of a rotten cleaning rag left on the table behind us (reeking of rotten fish) my wife and I just lost it laughing at the complete absurdity of the whole situation. Oh, and by the way, the food ain't cheap. After the first night, I would have eaten outside the lodge, but that is impractical as the closest restaurants are in Winthrop which is mostly closed in the evening and a pretty tough drive down slick roads and back. To be fair, the new years eve celebratory meal (at $105 PP) was pretty good and not chaotic. (I am told the lodge owners were dining there that evening which may have affected the service) The lodge itself is nice, although our room, a fireplace room in the Gardner lodge was pretty worn and dated. In my mind, this place is nowhere worth what they charge and the difficulty of getting there. The upscale lodges in Leavenworth are for better,
