I was thrilled, years ago, when they expanded into a bigger, new location opposite the fairgrounds. Product selection expanded, the store was large, well organized, and brightly lit; parking was easier, and hours of operation extended. Plus they had dogs in the store, which is always a bonus! They also had a full-service paint department so I decided to buy my paint supplies there. Shop local, you know? Unfortunately, their pricing was about 25% higher than I was paying elsewhere. When I mentioned this the owner, Frank, became irritated. I showed him my invoices. He then became angry, not understanding how I was purchasing less for retail than he was paying the franchise, or something along those lines. It was weird. So, I stopped purchasing paints there but did continue buy other supplies. Later, they moved to their present location which continues to have ample parking and easy access, as well as a decent selection of hardware and sundries, to my recall. As a bonus, they carry not only chainsaws, but chainsaw parts and supplies. At the time, the fellow who ran that department, Andy, was great- helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. One day, I needed a couple saw parts which he had in stock; it was his suggestion that I take all that he had, 4 or 5 pieces, and return those I did not need as it would allow his system to automatically re-order. So I did that... Unfortunately, returning the parts was just an awful experience. The cashier at the time, a lady with white/grey hair, could not have been more rude or angry, acting as though I were taking food out of her mouth or committing some sort of fraud by returning the parts as I had been advised to do the previous day. I recall her interrupting a conversation I was having with another customer, an acquaintance of mine, as she began to berate me and demand not only the receipt, which I provided, but also my drivers license to process the return- a purchase of less than $25. I have no idea what makes people think it's acceptable to behave in the manner she did. It truly was a distasteful experience. As a result, I have not entered the store or spent one thin dime there since- though I do purchase thousands of dollars of hardware and supplies, etc. annually. Instead, I chose to patronize another local business which appreciates customers spending their money with them, though it is less convenient for me to do so. Reading through the various reviews here, evidently I am not alone in my experiences.

I was with a whole group and they managed to find some little things for the kitchen. Tools to take out tomato insides; dishware; clocks; soaps, candies, jewelry, candles, lunch boxes, reading glasses - such fun little gifts for yourself or anyone that you can think of. They were about to close when we walked in but they were smart and stayed open a little bit longer as we were obviously on a mission! They definitely know how to stand out a little from your average little store. It was a fun find! None of us live in the area (though one friend has a lake house in Valaties) so it was cool to browse through the main street and find some cool little items.

About 45 minutes to an hour were spent browsing through the incredible old/new - new/old stock (however it's referred to) and we had the pleasure of talking with Dennis, who answered whatever questions I had while gently rebuffing my attempts to buy things that were not for sale. I did however purchase a nice old file in new condition as well as an old, ornate drill bit holder which will proudly be displayed in my home shop. This store has a hazy, relaxed, out-of-time feel to it and is as relaxing and comfortable as any familiar place where one wants to get lost for a while and forget the loud, impersonal modern world in which we find ourselves immersed far too often.

I had a friend ery knowledgably nod and declare that the roast I had just served was obviously a boneless prime rib -- it was so tender and tasty. It was a rump roast from Avery's that could be cut with the edge of your fork. I have NEVER missed with Avery's. They are friendly and helpful, whether you need a heater for the mud room or a fine roast for Sunday dinner -- they are the very best. A New England treasure! I know they want to sell the business and I know that everyone else wants them to stay with the Avery family, as they have for over 100 years. BLESS YOU!!

Screwed again today! Called ahead to get air filter for my JD mower. Quoted 18 dollars on the…read morephone. Napa had it for 21 in Nassau. I chose PLT because it was closer (30 minutes instead of 40) and it was cheaper. Got there ant price magically went up to 30 dollars. My fault, I was screwed by them once before. Sold me a starter solenoid for $120. Told me it was a specific to that Mule. Turned out the Bendix was bad also and Day's Repair (AWSOME!!) fixed it and said that was a 30 dollar common solenoid. Sad - I want to support the local guy but gouged to many times.

I purchased a rubber carburetor boot from them 11 months ago for my snowmobile for $120 (which is ridiculous for a piece of rubber with a metal plate in it, but that's Bombardier's fault). I put about 20 hours on the sled with the new part. I store my sled in a heated garage all year long with my other 3. When I went to dust off the sled for the upcoming season I very quickly see that the piece of junk part they sold me is basically crumbling apart! When I call to see if they would replace it free of charge, given the amount of money I spend there every year, they told me the manufacturers warranty is only good for 90 days. It shouldn't matter! They should replace it because I bought it from them and it was defective. I'm extremely disappointed with them, and I will no longer be purchasing a damn thing from that store. For $120 they lost a customer who has a family with 4 sleds that every year need oil, helmets, tracks, and many random parts. I spent SO much there, but not any more. None of my riding buddies will either after they hear this BS. Great way to do business guys!
