Cosy Club - It's really grand in Cosy Club, the site of an old bank.

The other dish was a New York steak ciabatta (with amazing chips). We ordered wine and washed the tasty meal down before following it up with sticky toffee pudding and a decidedly evil peanut butter cheesecake (which comes in a glass). We like it here. It's grand and light, and the food is good and reasonably priced. What would we change? We would upgrade the condiments, so that the ketchup is better, and that authentic maple syrup is used on our pancakes rather than golden syrup, which is thick and doesn't taste of much. We would also have preferred our meals a bit hotter, as we felt like we had to wolf it down before it got cold. But these are small niggles that can be easily fixed, and probably will be at some point if the professionalism of the staff is anything to go by. They're friendly, not over-familiar, not too pushy, and they seem to want to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy Cosy Club. The wine list is short, but will hopefully improve in time. As of writing, it's only been open a couple of weeks. I look forward to being able to buy Champagne by the glass!

I cannot wait to use it as a marinade as its earthy, chunky, savory, and more of the consistency of a gravy or chutney versus ketchup. They were nice enough, but they spent most of their time standing outside smoking. They have LOADS of clearly labeled vegan options, which is always appreciated. I got the Mothership: This Isn't A Chicken & Bacon Pie with leeks and white wine, minty mushy peas, crispy onions, gravy, and mash. It was edible; just soooooooo much less flavorful than it should have been and could have been given its components. The pie was mostly crust with very little filling; the mash was also barely there compared to their marketing photos on social which make it seem like you're getting some enormous tower of delicious eats. The food was bland, the atmosphere was bland, the experience was bland. There are better pie and mash places in Bath!

The food is always top-notch and the waiting staff know they're stuff. The set-price menu is always good value and offers a more limited choice which should suit most tastes. The service is quick, friendly and welcoming putting you at ease from the moment you walk in the door. The selection of local ales is top notch and the wine menu offers something for everyone. The restaurant is on the top floor and has really nice views of the river (and all of the activities that go along with that) and is a perfect backdrop as the sun sets over Bristol. Once the sun has gone down the ambiance and atmosphere here really shines and the (usually full) tables provide a charming and warm hum with everyone chatting, laughing and having a good time. I really cannot recommend this place enough, especially if you're looking for something a little more special than the ordinary.

We chose from the set evening menu in the upstairs restaurant, at £18 for 2 courses and £21.50 for three. They will swop vegetarian items for the meat or fish set items on request. The menu is modern European, and features items such as ham hock and roast rabbit, all decorously served. Puddings include items such as lavender panna cotta - simply to die for. Service was excellent and the general consensus was that we would happily come back here: most of us had two courses, which, with house wine (a bottle between two on average), water and service came to £28 a head.

After walking around for 20-30 mins and getting a few rejections we found Graze, which from the outside looks way to modern for my taste. But the closer we got the better we liked it (it has a statuette of a bull on top of the door - love it!!!) Anyways we got charcuterie as a starter with Aperol Spritz, which was delicious - really good meat! And nicely served! As a main cause we got a chicken roast and lamb chops, and a bottle of wine, they had a great wine card by the way! We both wanted to finish - but that wasn't possible - cause we also need room for a little dessert! It was a good evening! The service was really good, We loved the food, and the interior was very non British! (Win!) ;) I would have loved to try a Sunday roast at Graze! Next time for sure!

Because it was about 3pm by the time we got there, it was pretty quiet (only two other customers) but we quite liked that and despite being worried they might not be serving food since it was between lunch and dinner (and Valentines day which they were clearly getting ready for that evening) we were warmly welcomed and told we could sit anywhere. The whole place smelled like leather which I suppose might be off putting for some but I loved it. It was nice and bright with leather seating (hence the smell) and smart decor. We were brought a lunch menu as well as the a la carte and drinks. I decided to have a cocktail since we were officially on holiday now the interview was over ;) The cucumber collins (£6.50) was delicious! We also shared a 500ml carafe of pinot noir (£12) which was lovely. We ordered bread & olives (£3.50) to start which were very nice, I liked the addition of thyme to the butter. For our mains, Nik chose the burger which was tasty but a bit dry and could have had a bit more seasoning. The chips were fantastic! I opted for the duck leg confit with dauphinoise (£11.95) which was definitely the best choice - SO delicious and melt in the mouth duck with crispy skin. The jus was very tasty too and great for dipping Nik's chips! ;) I was surprised that Nik's burger cost more than my duck which was a decent size and mine definitely seemed better quality. £12.95 for a burger is pretty pricey too! When mine came I decided I needed some veg with it so ordered the winter greens which came quickly and smothered in butter. A bit too much really as I actually love kale & savoy cabbage (which is what came) and it was literally dripping in butter which wasn't needed and so not quite as healthy as expected but I enjoyed it all the same. Although, again it was quite expensive at £3.50 for a small bowl of cabbage. Considering how quiet the restaurant was (a few more customers had come in for drinks by the time we finished but no other diners), we had to sit with our empty plates for a VERY long time as the waitress was busy lighting candles and setting tables for dinner. She did seem to be the only member of staff at this point but we were ignored for a bit too long. Service was friendly throughout though and we soon got the bill and were thanked as we left. The toilets were clean and again, nicely decorated with nice touches like the lovely smelling White Company soap & hand lotion. We'd probably go back for another visit next time we're in Bristol.

It seems any of the creases there were when it opened a year ago now, have been well ironed out. I was in a miserable mood as I arrived, getting caught in a downpour on my way in, as I waited for my friends to arrive I whet my whistle with a gin & tonic and assuaged my damp spirits, sorry, socks. The cosy upstairs area is a great place to meet friends for a drink, just tucked away off Stokes Croft, which can all be a bit too hip sometimes. As my friends arrived, we went down the wooden steps to the dining area. The menu is on a blackboard on the wall. What makes this my favourite restaurant is the fact that everything is made on the premises, including, and in particular, their bread. And they pay more than lipservice to local and seasonal - which makes this time of year the best to be eating there. I had cured fish (I think it was mackerel) to start - I think I was eating rollmops before I could talk and makes me right at home. This 'comfortingness' was a theme continued in my main course: soft boiled goose egg, with asparagus soldiers (are they in season already? wow) and duck ham. The big goose egg on this board in front of me made me feel shrunken in comparison - and this making me feel physically small as well as a meal that reminded me of being a kid, is the feeling Heston Blumenthal always bangs on about trying to evoke in his cooking. Well it worked for me. The tricky poultry combination was well managed, as the duck ham was deliciously cured, like a thick parma ham. Could I squeeze a pudding in? Well, I forget what exactly it was, but the rich chocolate mousse-y cake slid down our throats with great ease. Yum. Faults? The wine choice is basic - red or white - which I like, as it cuts through a lot of pretension about wine - at £13 a bottle - and isn't going to get the sommelier singing - but then I guess it keeps the focus on the food and is in line with their vibe which is about fancy food for affordable prices. And I do miss the soup starter :(
