It is yet another south Texas, sad, grassless, and ill-maintained…read moreneighborhood golf course that the developer has abandoned and that the homeowners are just milking into obsolescence. The swimming pool has long been concreted over. The clubhouse concession stand has been reduced to a single commercial refrigerator for which you pull out your refreshment and pay at the golf counter. The golf course has stopped maintaining all the fairway bunkers and now they are just grass-filled indentations. This makes it hard to figure out shot directions as there are no visual cues. The green side bunkers are just raked dirt. The fairways suffer from many bare spots and the greens have many thin areas. On the up side the course does have a driving range with decent range balls.

The reason I am giving this golf course a 1-star rating is due to my experience on two separate…read moreoccasions over the past four years. Both times, I arrived with high expectations of playing a quality course. However, it wasn't until after paying the full greens fees and beginning my round that I discovered significant portions of the course were under repair. During my first visit, nearly all of the greens were being renovated, and temporary greens had been set up in the middle of the fairways. On my second visit, I again found several greens under repair, with some holes still utilizing temporary greens. I understand that course maintenance and renovations are sometimes necessary, and I would have had no issue with that had I been informed beforehand. The problem is that there was no disclosure prior to payment, no notification at check-in, and no signage indicating the extent of the repairs. As a customer, I feel this is information that should be communicated upfront so golfers can make an informed decision before paying full price. Unfortunately, after experiencing the same lack of transparency on two separate visits, I cannot recommend this course.

Sooo, this is where I chose to spend my birthday weekend, and we left a bit disappointed. When you…read morearrive, at first glance, you get that resort feel with the grand entrance. Check in was easy, then we went to our "unit". There is currently construction going on near where we stayed, and we were very close to the golf course. Their units are similar to duplexes, but with 2 lower unites and a greater middle unit. We stayed in the bigger unit, which had a huge bedroom with king bed, jacuzzi tub, full kitchen, living room, and it was 2 stories. You have a quaint little patio with chairs that overlooks the water, which was a nice touch. The unit itself was in poor condition. Yellow stains on the ceilings, roaches, ants, termites, and other bugs we found crawling around or dead. Scracthes, loose door handles, and cracked tiles were abundant. The breakfast "buffet" was a joke! There was no buffet as advertised. This was simply an available breakfast that could be brought out to you, and was part of that which was covered by your "coupon". I have a severe egg allergy, so the eggs bacon, sausage, refried beans and potatoes prepared wasn't something I could thoroughly enjoy. Therefore, we had to order from their overpriced resort menu. A small stack of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and waffle were all around $8 EACH. Gym facility was pretty nice; though, ants were always seen crawling at the base of the windows. The day before we left, found goftballs near our NEW car! Be mindful of where you are in relation to the course. This was something we never thought of when we arrived. Overall, we will likely not be going back to this resort. Far too many bugs sharing the space, and my breakfast each morning was honestly, a rip off.

We often run into the grounds staff and the security/police and they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I have not yet joined and probably will. The Golf Course is nice, fun, well maintained. It would be nice if dress code was enforced, and the five-somes, and six-somes were gone, but oh well. My problem is with the Board and how it is run. The club has what I call a (small click) of people who matter and who have control of how it is run. Times change, and Board Members need to updated. As they say out with Old and in with the New. They have an incentive for members to Refer someone, which is nice. But when a member refers monthly large business to club, that to them is meaningless. My husband and I spoke with Estelle C. this morning and she did state that Shea B. was in charge of that and there was NOTHING, for members who refer monthly large business. This interaction was a few minutes because she would still answer us rudely instead of acknowledging that we wouldn't have known that there is only one waitress per table. We went up to management to let them know of this uncomfortable situation we just had and they sent a manager to speak to us. The manager came by our table and never apologized for her behavior and instead just gave excuses, one or them being "She was having a bad day" ???????. On top of it all food took forever, orders came out wrong, and even though we were a big party no one really kept up with us just bad treatment all around. Although I love TopGolf I don't think I ever wanna go back knowing how their staff is managed.

It's not your normal 5 star establishment but I'm giving 5 stars for so many…read moreother reasons. 5 stars for it being something unlike anything else I've ever seen and in the middle of nowhere at that. 5 stars for the prices & selection of the souvenirs, so much better than on the island or laguna vista. Is it run down? Yes! Isn't most everything in this area? The attitude of the employees was shocking too, there was only 1 guy there when we got there, he was running the entire massive place and didn't complain one bit, was happy to help and that was so refreshing. Later we met another girl working the rundown arcade who was just as nice and helpful :), so 5 stars for staff. We went on a Saturday from 3-5:30pm and we're basically the only ones there so I can understand why it's rundown, they don't have the money to do the upkeep but it was pretty cool to see once. My 3 littles enjoyed it, my mom enjoyed reading about everything in the journey too. So love it or hate it, it's cool to check out for something to do while in town and need a break from the beach (with sunburn like us). It's a one time thing, I can't really see coming back with the condition the games and everything is in. Just have low expectations and be surprised :). Laser Tag was closed, they said it's been closed since Covid started. Just FYI.
