A lively, energetic food hall with tons of variety and a unique vibe that somehow manages to merge the Asian street market scene with a cozy European pub feel. Location is excellent- right in the heart of the CBD - and the food is all excellent! We loved it so much we ate here several times on our trip. The space is huge with plenty of small, intimate tables or large family style tables if you're feeling sociable. The building is one of Auckland's historic buildings dating back to 1910 and the space is decorated so nicely. Definitely a great spot to relax and hang out. The seating in the core is totally British pub style with dark wood tables, benches, and dim lighting to add to the ambiance. The seating around the outer rim is lit with skylights above and decorated like the streets of Europe. And all around the walls you'll find some really fun neon Asian street signs - such an interesting mix and makes it really fun. Our fave restaurant is Lepak. They serve up Malaysian deliciousness and our fave dish was the Nasi Lemak - coconut rice, chicken curry, nicely fried egg - fabulous!! We got this several times and it was consistently excellent. We also tried their chicken satay, Malaysian milk tea (hot), and mini curry puffs - all of it was lovely - highly recommend! Our second fave is Bao Baby Bao - their buns are soft and delicious- especially the Angry Bird Bao which is like a mix of bao buns and trendy hot chicken. We also tried the pasta carbonara from De Niro on one visit - it was just ok, a little heavy and a tad bland but otherwise ok. The Asian food genre is definitely the way to go here imo. Prices are pretty reasonable, especially by US standards - and the quality is definitely there. It gets pretty packed but we always found a seat easily. Staff were all welcoming and friendly. They have large, clean bathrooms but I'm not sure about the parking situation since we walked from our hotel in the CBD - it's a very walkable city. read more

Elliott Stables might have been my favorite place/places to eat at during our stay in Auckland! The variety of food here is spectacular, and is perfect when your group is feeling indecisive on a single restaurant. Cause why pick 1 restaurant when you can have something from up to 12 places under 1 roof? Burg'z: Ordered their Paniola burger and an L&P soda. The burger was huge and juicy as it should be. The coffee bourbon bbq sauce really makes this burger worth it alone, especially with a classic L&P soda to wash it down Ela's: Ordered their spicy crispy cauliflower. I was expecting this cauliflower to be roasted in an oven, but to our surprise it was fried. It came out super crispy and with a spicy red sauce, loved every morsel of it till the end. Homecooked Filipino: Ordered their pork sinigang, pancit canton, grilled pork belly, white rice, garlic rice, and halo halo. As a Filipino who grew up on this food, my family was really impressed to find this good quality Filipino food inside of a upscale food court in the middle of Auckland, New Zealand. It was honestly the last type of food we were expecting to find, but it was really good! The sinigang was sour as it should be, the grilled pork belly was super flavorful and tender, garlic rice as garlicky as ever, and a refreshing halo halo to top it all off. I'd come back to Elliott Stables again soley for more of this Filipino food! Overall Elliott Stables is definitely a winner in my book! It takes your usual "food court" and brings it up a couple levels as far as quality and diversity goes. I can't wait to come back and try more food from the other stalls we didn't get to try. This was a great establishment. There were several restaurants with seating in the middle. So if you have a party of 1 or party of 10, everyone can chose what type of food they want from the different restaurants in Elliott stables. A little loud and a lot crowded. It's all here, something for everyone. We, a family of 4 rolling through town found this spot on Yelp, a ten min walk from out lodging. We all got something different, it's easy to do. Pick a table, they need to know when you order where to bring your food. Kids got Filipino food, one of us got seafood and the other got Japanese. The a dobo at the Filipino spot was totally legit, we also got some lumpia and some popcorn shrimp. The lumpia was a little greasy but pretty good and the adobo was perfect. I got surf and turf at the seafood spot. They're super nice and I substituted my mashed potatoes for french fries. I'm lactose intolerant and I figure that the mashed potatoes probably had a dairy-based to them. It was excellent. My wife picked up some katsu curry at the Japanese place also delicious. I'm pretty sure that you could get bad food here if you picked something that you didn't really like, why would you do that though. The portions were all good, all of the spots we ate at. Elliot stables is more of a food court with multiple restaurants along the 3 walls of the establishment (12+ resturants under one roof), with the seating space in the middle. It is a great place to have a freinds get-together as everyone can order the cuisien of their choice. I have been there multiple times on Friday night with friends or to parties there. When the tour guide for our small group tour suggested going to an 'upscale food court' we all groaned. This is no food court, this is an assemblage of very good eateries, each one different from the other. The communal dining area is in the center, with large wooden tabes for small or large groups. Your table is numbered, each of you order your favorite cuisine (and wine/beer) and it is delivered directly to your table.. So civilized, so unique. Walking across the paved cobblestones of Elliot Stables you are immediately transported to what feels like the streets of a European city. There are some amazing restaurants tucked away within these stable doors and the epicurean village philosophy means you can choose your table and then order from any of the restaurants and your food and drinks are bought over to you. Sort of like a communal restaurant. This is quite cool because you can share plates from various places with friends. Elliot stables is a great place for meeting with larger groups of people as there are many larger tables available and given the wide variety of cuisine such as Latin American, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, German and Indian there is something for everyone's taste buds. A nice little touch are the little fresh flower arrangements on each of the tables and in the evenings candles are placed on the tables giving a really nice ambiance to the stables. If you prefer the natural light there is some outdoor seating available too which is nice on a warm evening. My favourite restaurant here is Bruschetteria. Their salads (I order without the meat) are beautiful. Simple ingredients such as fresh rocket, vegetables, pear, nuts and citrus make for light and refreshing meals and their artichoke hearts served and herb breads are nice too. If you haven't been I recommend the stables, if you're around town for a show at the civic, Q theater, a movie or the like Elliot Stables is a great place to come for a meal first, or drinks and dessert after. read more

What a great concept! This is an old stable house that has been turned into a fancy food court. You pick a seat and the tables have numbers on them so you can tell the restaurant where to bring your food. Then go into any stall to pick your poison. De Niro pizzeria bar: tried the Italian mussels here and they were amazing! So fresh and huge - . They are sautéed with wine and a tomato sauce. I wish they came with bread or fries for the tomato sauce, but you can order just bread for an additional 5.90. Torchon (French) - ordered a cheese plate for 2 because it was so cheap (12.90)! Not the best, but portions were large and for such a cheap price how can you complain. Brurg'z burgers - just ok, though they looked pretty amazing. Got the paniola (aka western bacon onion ring cheese burger). Bun was so dry I had to take off the top and then it tasted better. Also got the kumara fries served with chipotle aioli dipping sauce. I thought these were supposed to be sweeter since they are basically New Zealand sweet potato. Pretty dry and bland without the dipping sauce which I quickly ran out of since it was so small. Overall items are hit and miss, but loved the concept and the mussels from DeNiro are a must! read more

The Stables house a variety of eateries, and anything from specialty sausages and French cuisine to delicious New Zealand Kapiti ice-cream can be found there. It is the perfect place to rendezvous with friends, or even set up and study with a coffee, as I have done on numerous occasions. The decor reflects the era in which the Stables were built and resembles a cosy European-style village, complete with a cobbled pathway leading to each store and a traditional bicycle mounted in the centre of the village where people can enjoy their specialty foods and beverages from breakfast time til well into the night. If you know anyone who says they are hungry and has trouble deciding what they really want to eat, Elliot Stables is a BRILLIANT and the perfect place for you. The set-up is astonishing (I have a video tour, but it won't let me post videos. Sorry!). It literally used to be a horse stable. The environment is lively. Very busy and crowded, but no lines to wait for food. There are 14 local (no fast food chains allowed) cultural restaurants around the perimeter of the stables and the dining tables are located in the middle of the stables and along the entrance way with the bathroom at the end of the entrance walkway. Most of the restaurants are open around 11am to 2pm and opens again around 5pm for dinner. (I forgot what time they close for dinner). So this is how it works... First, what we did was find a table to sit at (remember the number on the table because it comes in handy when ordering), then my husband and I took turns looking around at the different restaurants. Next, you order from the restaurant you want and they will ask you what the number table you are sitting at and they will bring your food to you. When finished eating, you can just leave your dishes at the table. Elliot Stables has bus boys/girls to pick up after you because they have to sort the dishes into the proper buckets. It was a bit pricey.. well at least for my order it was. I ordered from the Filipino restaurant: Lechon Kawali, halo halo, and mango juice all for ~$50NZ. read more

This is my favourite place to lunch when I'm having the day from hell in the office. The décor, smells, people, and food has a way of transporting me on a mini O.E. The alleyway and food hall is always packed with people going on the same escape. Every year Elliot Stables gets a little better. They've recently renovated the back half of the complex and opened it right up with a huge Mexican place. My favourite is the French Creperie where I try and practice my French with the waiters and waitresses. I usually epically fail, but we always have a good laugh and they teach me a little bit more every time. We often go there as a big group from work and it's amazing to see what different people choose. When I look around the table it's packed with such an array of dishes. Elliot Stables is the place to head in the city if you want an upmarket 'food court' lunch. It's central and I often meet friends here for a Friday lunch. The upside is that everyone can choose what they feel like eating and can then sit communally in the middle. The downside (in my mind) is that prices are considerably higher than other lunch destinations and quality not always in line with said prices. I've had average Japanese (if you're buying Japanese for taste and value I'd head next door to the Atrium food court) but in saying that their lunch boxes are huge. The Mexican was disappointing, after I had heard rave reviews. I've had a delicious lunch at the Spanish tapas bar, where they were offering a special of two tapas and a soft drink for $15. Patatas bravas, stuffed Iranian dates and the pinxtos were amazing, the stuffed squid not so much. So yes, I'll still continue to frequent Elliot Stables, if for convenience more than anything else, but if you're after authentic food I'd probably keep looking. read more

Came here with coworkers and it's a good spot to do so as i't's more "refined" for working types compared to what's just next door, Atrium on Elliott (which is usually patronized by students). So many choices! I've had a shepherd's pie from The Paddock as well as an incredible lamb burger from that burger place, which name escapes me at the moment. However, try to pick a table first if you can as they'll ask you for your table number to bring out your food. In addition, they do take a bit more time to prepare your order, so try to come early before there's a huge wait and one has to waste more precious lunch hour time. read more

Does your husband just want a beer? You can do it all here! One meal without kids I had a Asian Indian appetizer with a seafood soup and Sauvignon Blanc from a third establishment. My husband had surf & turf & a German Beer from elsewhere. Our first night On island we came here and ate Spanish food. It was a very nice & relaxing inside the restaurant however my kids jet lag made it almost impossible. We didn't give up!! We ate here at least 3 times in 15 days on Holiday. We stayed upstairs at Crown Plaza for last 5 days of the trip. I would give them 5 stars except the noise (very loud with small children) & confusion. Do I clean up my dishes? How does the restaurant get them back? When are they really open? I will say we were there during the holidays however trying to figure out when they were open was quite confusing. I have some mixed feelings about Elliot Stables. I love the concept of taking an old building and turning it into something trendy, I love the fact that it is a mix between a food court and a restaurants cluster, i love the food options there, from French to Cajun, with a dessert restaurant, German, Japanese... There is something for everyone! The cobbles are a nice touch but for ladies in heels, what a pain to walk on! Aren't those supposed to be outdoor? And I always find this place a bit too dark for my liking. I like to see the food I eat. Once my eyes adapted to the (lack of) light, it was alright. As for the food, as I said, I love the choice, but no place has really won my heart yet. The crepes from Le torchon are good but nothing to make me jump off the roof, the cajun food was okay, and the dessert places made me feel like I wasted my time and money... I still have many places to try in there though so maybe the other places will get my rating up a notch, let's see! read more

This place was nice and we were so excited to eat here.... It's basically a super high end food court. Our problem was that we couldn't find a single thing we wanted. Nothing against the selection here, there was plenty to chose from, we just weren't feeling any of the options. We must have looked at seven different menus. It was pretty loud and crowded anyway but most people seemed to be having a good time. This would be great for groups of friends who don't have exactly the same taste in food. Great Burger! It's fresh meat and when you note on it you won't be able to stop eating it. Perfect bun that fits beautifully in with that amazing beef. The menu has several ways to order that amazing burger, I had the sweet potato fries that are thick cut so order one to share it's that big. read more
