I had a really great experience with SUNSET PAWNBROKERS…read more I was in desperate need of cash so I took my mini iPad and a gold wedding band of my fathers into pawn shop. The process was fairly easy. He gave me three months to pay off the loan that he gave me for the things I gave him. it was about $25 for each item for him to loan me $100 per Item which equated to $200 total. I ended up paying back $240 approximately to get my things back. At one point I got really nervous because my dad's ring who God bless his soul, is now dead, but the ring was close to being up for payment and "if i dont pay them the money - they take it" thingy. Well he said, "if you just pay the interest which is $25 to borrow the hundred dollars then I'll extend your ring for another three months so that will give you some time to gather the money to get it out." I had no idea that that was even possible and to be honest at the time it was like the biggest deal in the world to me because I did not want to lose the only thing I still had from my dad which was his wedding band if I would've lost that I would've tried to kill myself probably but instead he was very understanding and said no problem just pay the interest and then you have three more months to get everything out. I went in today to pay the 240. It worked out very well. He was very easy to get along with. Very simple process and honestly, the $25 to get the $100 didn't seem so bad and really doesn't seem so bad when I originally got the money after giving the items it only took five minutes to walk in and walk out. if you need the money bad and you got stuff that he will take, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't want to give this fine business and the wonderful gentleman, business.

First off, Elliott is, hands down, one of the kindest souls I've met in Los Angeles. His right hand man, a very knowledgeable, interesting guy to talk with was this dude Ed. Ed recently passed and when I found out, I was truly sad. He was a special cat. You see, Elliott's pawn shop, is not a regular pawn shop, its more like a cool church. Temple, sorry. lolz. I've only been there when times have been a little tough for me, so to be treated with respect and not judged and to be shown kindness and given a fair deal, is something rare and special to me. Unless your shopping for a rare piece of jewelry, A Rolie, A piece of Vintage Louis Vuitton, or a Fender axe, youre their for a loan. Elliott doesnt make you feel like a jerk for being broke. He has a way of being tough but kind. You will not get over on him, though, there's a reason he's been there as long as he has. There have been a few times when I might not have been ok if it weren't for Elliott and his shop. I really believe that Elliott is a good example of what a real American is. In order for a community to function well, you have to have establishments like Elliott Salter Loans, where real people look you in the eye and tell you what they can do to help. If you leave an item with them for collateral, they will treat it like their own. Even a six thousand dollar guitar. If you need a loan or want to buy something unique, the experience of visiting Elliots shop is always interesting and cool. Plus, its nice to know youre not alone in the rat race. Thanks Elliot. A fast nickel beats a slow dime and after cleaning out the garage, I had several items of value taking up space that needed to go. I called the shop and spoke with Mike and David (I think David was his name). Anyways. They where able to tell me over the phone that they were interested to buy my stuff. I was in and out with some much needed extra cash in about a half an hour. And probably would have been 15 minutes, but they have a new computer system that they where getting use to. I have done business with Elliott Salter and his staff on two previous occasions. Elliott Salter's Shop will always be my first stop when I have something to sell or need a quick/short loan. They treat you with respect and a smile. Most of all, I felt like I was receiving a fair price for my stuff and not being taken advantage of. They even went as far to turn the computer monitor towards me showing me what similar items like mine where selling for on the internet and how they came up with a price. My one complaint, parking can sometimes be a challenge. Especially if you have a large items to Pawn or Sell and are unable to find street parking near the store. Take away a 1/4 star for that. Overall 4.75 stars in my book. read more

Although not ordinarily a "review writer" per se, I felt compelled to lend some "cyber-support" to an establishment which has been very much a component of my adult life. Simply put, my experience with Elliot has been informative, fun, timely, understanding, I could go on with similar adjectives not routinely associated with describing a business/business owner, (Let alone in regard to describing a pawn broker.) I must say that contrary to whatever one's perception may be of banks, financial institutions and/or lenders in general, I have been frequenting this establishment since 1980-1981 (roughly) through good times (LESS good times,) and i have always been treated with respect, courtesy and compassion. These are hallmarks of what can make for what in some cases may be difficult decisions to make in challenging times, Elliott and the rest of the staff has always been more than helpful to/for me. On an additional note: This is just a cool place to come check out, there are all kinds of interesting items to check-out, perhaps you will find your new passion in a item waiting just for you... read more

A Hip Pawn Shop Owner, with Heart and and Humor - - Today My husband and I went in the shop with my son to buy an inexpensive guitar since the one he had was just stolen. The owner of this shop, Elliot, immediately engaged us in conversation and seemed to take a genuine interest in our 21 year old son (who is in a somewhat precarious situation at this time). We talked to him for quite a while, our son found a suitable guitar at a very fair price and right before we left he gave our son two books that he thought would provide insight and guidance at this time. Of course as parents we were touched, but the really amazing thing was that he left such an extremely positive impression on our son! As we were walking to our car he told us that after he reads the books he plans to write him a thank you note and to then "Pay it Forward" by giving to the books to someone else at a cross roads in their life. This is the only pawn shop that's ever left me feeling uplifted and inspired. Oh, and the selection of items in this store is also unique and quite extensive. Edit - Delete read more

When times get tough, go see Elliott on Santa Monica Blvd. I got fired unexpectedly and of course unemployment office was farting around with my benefit payments because they too broke. Against my better judgement, I looked around my apartment loaded up the car and went to see Elliot. I did not know what to expect initially because (compared to the other pawn professionals ahead of me) I had never pawned anything before; Elliot & his staff was completely professional, friendly and sensitive to their customers needs. So I found a job, got my goods back from Elliott and decided to treat myself and was shocked at how good his prices was on diamond or gold jewelry and designer watches! My Cartier is extraordinary and priced right plus Elliot allowed me to make low monthly payments until I brought my baby home. When the going gets tough or even if all is good and you have some extra cash to treat yourself, go see Elliot... read more

Discovered this great shop with a friend who was looking for pocket watches. A friend we were travelling with was is an avid pocket watch collector and history buff. He contacted the shop and they sent him photos of each of the watches and took the time to let him know the condition of each so he didn't waste a trip over if he wasn't interested. We made the trip over and were not disappointed. The owner (Elliot) and staff (Dave) were great - engaging, welcoming and polite. We shared a number of stories and came away with another great memory of visiting LA. We did return a couple of days later as I made the decision to purchase a Paul Unkert built Eddie Van Halen guitar. This time we brought our families and again all engaged in a very fun and interesting set of conversations with Elliot and Dave. Thanks fellas for a great Los Angeles memory! read more

I ran into some tough times and had to hawk a few valuables at Elliott Salter. I had never really been to a pawn shop before but this one looked professional and I'd heard good things about this place from friends. The staff were very pleasant and I was able to secure a much needed loan on a 24K gold necklace and two gold rings. They were very thorough in explaining their policies and procedures and even reassured me that if my loan came due and I hadn't yet paid off the balance, that they would call me before my items were put up for sale. I'm really forgetful, so I definitely appreciated this because I'm sure other places would sell your hawked items before you even remembered you still owed money on them. Things are looking up for me now and I hope I never have to hawk anything again but, if I do, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Elliott Salter. read more

I had never been in a pawn shop before... didn't really know what to expect but this was the best experience I could have hoped for. These guys are honest, fun, quick and friendly. I had gone in to pawn a ring and when it was weighed on the scale, I was only going to get about $20 for it. But when I clarified that it was from a well-known designer (as it was my first time, I didn't realize I should have said that in the beginning), they confirmed it online and then graciously recalled their original quote and I got at least $100 more for it. They know their stuff and are beyond fair. It was clear that other customers in the shop were happy to be there and it felt like a place where you just want to go and hang out because they're so down to earth and care about their customers. I will definitely be back!!! read more

I've been a customer of Elliott's for close to 15 years. He and his staff, especially Ed, have always treated me extremely fair. At times I'm sure he's gone out of his way to help me out. As a musician, and many of his customers are, he has always given fair value of whatever I bring in.I will not use any other pawn shop because not only is Elliott probably one of the most fair and honest men in Los Angeles when it comes to loans, but there are always those "pawnshop prizes"we all look for and his shop's got them at any given time. Not only will you find really cool stuff there, but his prices are a deal. I highly recommend his shop to anyone looking for a loan or to look around and find some really cool stuff. read more

The best thing about Elliott Salter's pawnshop is that he's there most of the time, and like his many staff members, he's friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and informal. It's been a family concern, in business for at least a couple of generations. One of my favorite holiday events is his free dinner with great live music. His family makes sandwiches for us and we hang out with a very interesting group of customers, musicians and staff (no chairs). I've bought some of my most admired jewelry there, and also pawned some things in between jobs. Several years ago I even asked him to hire me because of the good atmosphere and interesting items in the shop. In an area with lots of pawn shops, his is the very best. read more

First time at a pawn shop, and went in expecting the worst. I went in to pawn my high school class ring, not expecting too much. Elliott, who runs the place (and whose face is on the signs, I finally know what that is!), was super friendly and knowledgable, as were the rest of the guys working. He asked me how much I expected to get for it, after I told him $40, I would have totally expected him to go along with that, but his response was "$40?! try $125." Definitely surprised me. Efficiently run, clearly has been doing this for years, I was really pleasantly surprised, and that $125 is definitely going to help me out before my next paycheck comes in. Thanks! read more

I have gone to Elliott Salter's shop several times when I was in the unfortunate position of having to take out loans of some items that were very precious to me. At all times, this pawn shop has beeen completely honest and fair with me. Not only that, but Elliott and his staff are kind and cheerful, which helped elevate my low mood a lot. Having been to other pawnbrokers who were less ethical, it has been such a comfort to know that I can go to Elliott Salter any time now and receive great treatment. Spawned from the old County Loan an offspring of Crown Loan in downtown Los Angeles, Elliott Salter is one the most generous, honest pawnbrokers you will ever meet. People matter, if you have something to pawn of value having a Pawnbroker like Elliott gives you the confidence that your items will be there when you return, kept in good condition as if they belonged to Elliott. So there's the convenience factor. Next, it's family-owned, not some big corporate offshoot of BofA or whoever, and their payday loan subsidiary that's staffed by surly unshaven bums. The Brothers are actually brothers, and their mom is often there, too. She'll come out from the back occasionally and pass out candies. The shop itself is a fun browse - they seem to favor old radios and antique-y things - usually one of the vintage vacuum-tube radios is playing the Classical station, depending on which of the brothers is in that day. Rudy tends to go for the classical. Ernie seems to lay off the radios. This shop also tends to have more art than others. There is a very nice bronze sculpture there now. Musical instruments are also a specialty at this shop. Of course, jewelry of all kinds is available, and always welcome if you need a loan. They really know watches. The really good thing about this pawnshop, what really sets it apart from the others, is the guys who work there. Particularly Rudy and Ernie, the "Brothers" who own the place, and Cameron, who's been there a long time. They actually care. They are friendly and understanding, not cold and brusque like you'd expect from a pawnbroker. They aren't there just to take your stuff - I think they actually want you to get through whatever tough patch it is that brought you there with your jewelry or whatever. If they can't give you as much as you want for whatever you bring in, they actually sound a bit apologetic about it. These are nice people, and when you need to hock something, that goes a long way, too. One of the guys there told me that they have a very low percentage of people who don't eventually redeem their stuff, and he was quite proud of it. I don't recall exactly, but I think it was something fewer than 10% who don't manage to eventually get their things back. I've bought stuff there, and I've pawned stuff there, for probably 10 years. So, if you find yourself in need of a pawnshop, I give this one my highest recommendation.

Just wanted to share my 5 star experience at Revere Jewels. I was searching for a reputable and…read morehonest jeweler as I was in need of selling a diamond bracelet. I did not want to go to the route of pawn shops as they generally give low ball offers. Was really in need of an absolute professional to feel confident in selling. I was lucky enough to come upon Revere in my research and saw all the positive feedback. I called and was accommodated with a same day appointment. I have had experiences in the past with locating a proper jeweler to work with when selling and has always felt I came up short with low ball offers or just rushed appraisals. That was not the case at all when I went in for my appointment. Steve was absolutely patient, knowledgeable, thorough, and explained everything so clearly which was very refreshing and helpful. He provided full transparency on the decision when it came to what the offer was he presented to me. I was able to happily sell the bracelet and walk away with a more than fair and appropriate amount. Will definitely be my go to moving forward when next time I have other jewelry to sell. Thank you Steve!

They are not honest. The employees all give different types of information when you call in and…read morethen when you walk in, it's a different story they try to charge you extra once you walk in, it's never what's actually on the contract then they try to give you some excuse that doesn't even make sense . Half the time their system is down or doesn't work they tell you to waste your time and come back on a different day. The employees are also very rude. I have been going to them for years, but I definitely will not do business with them again. I believe it's ran by new management and owner and the business is definitely not the same. I read your response back to my review and we both know it's a complete lie. So unprofessional of you as the owner to lie and say that I yelled at the employee, I was upset, which I most definitely had the right to be but I would never yell not my character or who I am, as a business owner and supervisor, you are obviously not doing your job correctly because you have not trained your employees to be respectful and apologetic when they are at the wrong but you as a business owner yourself had zero respect to apologize for something that clearly a customer is upset about and isn't in the wrong. You should know better as an owner very bad way to run business . You were not the one who spoke to me over the phone so for you to assume you know what information your employee gave me when as a customer I told you exactly what happened when I called in by phone. I was told bring the tickets in she did not once mentioned that the tickets for the same item have to be on a certain date or we will just charge you more. If it's the same item and you're able to pull it up on your system then all you were doing is just giving me a hard time like I said to make extra money off of what you already made from my jewelry for the many years I've been coming to this pawnshop. Again very poor customer service and very unprofessional, especially you as an owner for not taking responsibility at least apologizing to the customer and making sure customers leave happy so they can come back again and or refer other people. Like I mentioned, very disappointing and I will not do business with you again and unfortunately, I will let my family and friends know about my experience as well. Wishing your business luck hopefully next time you will treat customers better and you will train your employees to show more respect to customers and to give accurate information.. Not the first time anyone's left you a bad review on rude employees. So please don't blame the customer Do a better job training your employees.
