Not what I expected. When you go to the museum you expect to have authentic historical information. What the Elliott has is collections of items that they don't rely on historians for descriptions of these items that they have in their collection. However they try to tell it's a historical stories and it's not working for them. They have an exhibit on the Ashley's that is very incorrect. The curators have been shown The true pictures of the Ashley's and the history that goes with the Ashley family is incorrect. Other historians and timeline issues prove that the story they are telling is incorrect so when you go to the Elliott and you venture upon the Ashley exhibit not everything you read is correct I'm including these two photos that they have on display as Joe Ashley and his daughter and Lugenia Ashley holding a baby. These are actually photos of Upthegroves. I've spoke with the CEO several times to no avail to correct there in accuracies. read more

A truly wonderful local treasure, this museum is staffed by knowledgeable, friendly docents who answer questions and tell humorous anecdotes. We went on a Friday late morning and had an easy time moving about the exhibits despite a number of families and other visitors. We came primarily to see the famous car collection and the equally famous rack display system for the cars and were not disappointed. There are a good many interesting cars and displays in the downstairs area to see (including a car and bus you can get in to take pictures) while waiting your turn to "bring down" a car or two while sitting on the bumper turned sofa in front of the viewing area.The lift is as fascinating as the cars and their stories. It's a draw, so be prepared to wait your turn, but take advantage of the time to chat with the docent. We also found the other car enthusiasts to be full of interesting tidbits too. After the cars, we climbed the stairs to see the "flying machines." Really loved the info cards connecting all the displays with local history and places. The second floor contains a full replica of a general mercantile store, a soda fountain and pharmacy. In another room, baseball fans can flip through a notebook and "dial up" one of hundreds of original baseball cards along with seeing a range of other baseball memorabilia. Further on the second floor is a circus miniature display, toys from "way back", a research library and The Outrigger Cafe. This is a great museum that has about 2-3 hours of exhibits if you take you time and read. I should also mention the interesting art scattered about including the hallway of miniature painting with the basket of magnifying glasses (and hand sanitizer!) beside them. They are also bringing in changing exhibits (soon to come? The Ashley Gang) so it could be a place to revisit. They also had several programs planned. What a hidden gem. I've been by the building numerous times never thinking much a out it. The name recognition isn't there. I was at a social thang and the Elliot was mentioned, sounded interesting. Today's start was a little overcast, some rain, and still windy.....to the Elliot. The entrance area has enough to catch your eye, wooden bikes, 3 wheeled thing, and noteworthy photos. Interesting. The adjoining room, blew me away, beautiful iconic vehicles. The second floor had an eclectic mix of stuff...Babe Ruth bat...cool. It's an interesting place. The hours are plainly stated, make sure you have an hour plus, and let the volunteers go home on time. read more

We visited here while on vacation and it's a really darling curated museum with an absolutely amazing antique car collection. It has this incredible robotic display that will show off whatever antique car in their collection they have. The docent was incredible and gave such a great background on the museum and collection. When I saw a King Tut exhibit was being offered I should of read the fine fine print for the items were not authentic. They were reproductions, which if I had known I would not have gone. Who wants to see reproductions. The automobile side was somewhat interesting but many cars were kept under glass so you could not get close to them. They had some old bicycles which was interesting. They had a plane there and when we asked a man who was there about it ; we asked was it real and he said he thought so but when I read more about it; lo and behold another replica. I don't appreciate seeing reproductions at a museum. Normally in a museum, they have originals not fake. People beware, things are not what they appear to be and trying to pass as a real museum with a King Tut exhibit is not very good. I hope in the future they rethink what they advertise -- maybe if they use the word in their advertisement that these are replicas, but won't for who would go? read more

We were visiting friends who highly recommended this museum due to us being car fans. The museum was supposed to have a cool car lift that brings down the car you want to view via a fancy lift system and twirls it around. We came on a day when it was rainy, so it was the perfect day to be indoors. When we went to buy our tickets, our friends had AAA, so all of us were supposed to get a $1 discount. However, when my boyfriend and I went to purchase our tickets, the lady didn't give us the discount. Then, when we went to see the cars in the vault, the system was down, which really bummed us and made our friend upset, since we had driven from Jupiter just for this. We walked through the rest of the museum, which had baseball cards, ship models, Florida memorabilia, and more. We were able to spend about an hour maybe hour and a half before heading back downstairs to look through the gift shop. They have pretty things in there and things that reflected what was in the museum. Our friend did complain to the front desk about the broken car lift system, but all she did was give him two free tickets for next time. This review takes into account the location of Stuart FL, which has only a few other attractions. Given that it is such a small town, this is an impressive, 2 story attraction. The collection of exhibits is a bit odd, with no clear theme (Bob Hope, antique cars and boats, baseball cards and bats, Frances Langford, toys and dolls, old pharmacy) but I found this to actually be charming. The strange variety actually is a plus as different family members may find different exhibits interesting. The collection of antique cars was very impressive, with a huge number shown and all in great condition. Of particular note is the three-story robotic car display, which stores cars in a rows and columns like a bookshelf. The robotic "librarian" periodically grabs a new car from the shelf and brings it to the front for spinning display. Very cool. If you are in the area this is a very cool place to go. If you are into antique cars it's probably worth a trip from a bit farther away. read more

The BF loves this place. He is an unashamed car fanatic. I am not. I like the place, however, for other reasons. He and I attended a Tuesday evening lecture on the Pontiacs of old, which was prefaced by a catered buffet. Food was yummy. Lecture was interesting, historically, even for somebody like me who only dinged up a large Pontiac wagon back in the 1980s . . .Valentine's Day, we went to a three course dinner at their Cafe, with a French inspired menu. Very enjoyable. I think there is actually something for anyone here. Various exhibits. Impressive car collection. It will especially impress any car lover/collector. There was an interesting, to me, exhibit of decorated torso casts. There is also a traditional drug store set up (?) on the second floor. Good place to duck out of the heat and explore. read more

We went to the Elliot Museum about a year ago when family was visiting. This is a must go to place. We all enjoyed it. Very informative on the history of the area, and cars. The giant pedulim they have in the main room is fascinatinating. The car garage they have is fascinating to watch. read more

Car myst be viewed one at a time from 15 feet away behiNd glass. Efficient to keep the cars pristine but not worth the high entrance fee. An eclectic small-town museum, nicely curated, the Elliott is a pleasant way to spend 90 minutes or so. I grew up visiting the old Elliott Museum, which was quaint. The new version in its stylish modern building feels young, with ambition to be more. The visiting exhibits can be quite good. The permanent car collection is impressive and interesting; young and old will like the storage-retrieval mechanism. Some local history is still displayed upstairs, but if you want Stuart or Martin County history, you'll get more at the Stuart Heritage Museum (old Stuart Feed and Supply in downtown). At the Elliott, it's a pleasure to chat with the docents. The man in the baseball room is a well-informed raconteur, telling great stories for as long as you want to listen. Everyone we spoke with was helpful and friendly. read more

While this museum is probably delightful when everything is working, I recommend calling ahead to see if the main attraction (the stacked car collection) is actually functioning and viewable. It was not working on the day my party visited and therefore we could not view the majority of the museum's collection. It would have been more ethical if we had been told of this at the front desk when paying what is a steep admission price for a small museum and perhaps we would not have been so deeply disappointed and unlikely to return. As for the collection, it is small but interesting, ranging from rotating art shows, local history items and a stunning antique car collection. Sadly, displays are marred by amateurish signs covering the artifacts (including bumper stickers with "donated by" on car windshields). The car collection could greatly benefit from the expertise of a museum display professional, as sight lines are poor and beautiful objects (like a gorgeous wooden Chris-Craft boat} are hidden by columns or a too close proximity to other pieces. read more

Many times in last few years my wife has mentioned how much she enjoyed the Elliott. Since we are both fans of classic cars and baseball, two of the main focuses of the "old" Elliott, we planned a day trip to the museum. Well, apparently this is not the "old" Elliott any longer. The baseball exhibit was virtually gone with only some autographed balls and cards on display along with maybe half a dozen "game used" bats. The information on the bats is quite lacking with no actual game information and for some lesser known (ok-we had never heard of them!) players not even the years in which they played were listed. The old Elliott would have baseball events with notable players like Dom Dimaggio andJim Katt making appearances. Today we could have missed the baseball exhibit had we blinked when we walked past. While there are maybe a dozen interesting cars on display in the open areas of the museum the vast majority are kept behind glass and are retrieved one at a time in a very slow process. When they arrive at the viewing point you are still only able to view them from probably 10 feet away and behind glass while they turn on a pedestal. Want to get a look at the seats or the dashboard? Not a chance. All in all a very disappointing visit. From what I understand the "old" Elliott it it's historical building was heads and shoulders above the current version. My wife insists that they had twice the items of interest in about half the space. The DaVinci portion of the exhibit was interesting but not what we had come to see and aimed more at a younger audience. This just feels like a museum without a soul. read more

I grew up in Stuart and went to this museum for the first time recently and was incredibly impressed! Very interesting and eclectic collection, this place has something for everyone (adults and children of all ages). I especially appreciated the great deal of local history. The renovations to the building are so very gorgeous and the staff is friendly and engaging. Next time I have company in town I will undoubtedly bring them here! read more

Spending the day in Stuart Florida so I stopped by the Elliott Museum thought it was more of a car museum but when I entered the museum to me it lacked focus. The problem that I found with it was all over the place: your old jukeboxes, baseball cards, bats, DNA exhibits, old outboard Evinrude motors and a huge hanging pendulum. They had cars but they were behind what the worker said was a $1.7 million lift system and glass; seemed more gimmicky then functional. What I didn't like was you couldn't get close to the car and it took a long time for the cars to be summed to come down. You can see what I'm talking about in the picture that I posted. The other problem was that the batteries needed to be recharged on the lift motors so sometimes the system seem to work and other times it didn't. Either way it took to long for the whole process. They only had like 50+ cars and old trucks, for $14 entrance fee I expected more?? read more

It's a very modern facility but mostly has cars in it. When they have a special exhibit it can be really cool. And there are a few things to look at like the baseball card exhibit. The cafe is nice too. Passed by just before closing and they didn't even let us look around a bit. Such a turn off, we would have even paid. 40 min may not have been enough time but it's a museum. Volunteers shouldn't volunteer if they are in too much of a hurry to go home. Sad. read more

This is a community museum. Although it is currently being rebuilt, we loved the old version. Their collection of vintage cars and the general store were highlights for my two boys. We are looking forward to the new one, which promises to be even better. read more

We visited about a year ago with a large group and enjoyed ourselves. BUT this time we had a fantastic time taking friends from Canada. The employees are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful. The current National Geographic display was outstanding and interesting. The restored vehicles, bikes, bicycles, boats and various other items were impeccable and unique. The best part is 'ordering' a car from one of the 3 glass enclosed display floors, to be brought down by a robot and put on a turntable to be viewed more closely. We were there close to 3 hours and learned so much about local celebrities and geography. The displays are unique and easy to approach and view. Good job done by all. We will be back! read more

My husband and I visited the Elliot Museum today. The brand new building is beautiful and we received free admission because of a social media event going on through TCPalm. There was local art on show on the first floor which easy very interesting and impressive. However the best part of the museum is the collection of old cars, which we were greatly enjoying until a very rude staff member interrupted a conversation we were having with and older gentleman staff. I made a joke about electric cars, and this male staff member, whose name I unfortunately did not get, interrupted us when he heard my joke, yelling at me "Actually you're wrong." He then proceeded to berate me with why I was wrong about electric cars in front of my husband and other museum patrons. He did not stop yelling and talking over me until I was able to disengage him by apologizing for my innocuous joke that was not even directed at him. While I don't mind an intellectual debate, I don't appreciate being interrupted, yelled at, and spoken to in a condescending manner. I sincerely hope the Elliot Museum will train their staff to be polite to patrons and to teach rather than humiliate. I also hope they remove staff who do not treat patrons with respect. Needless to say we will not be returning to the museum. read more

This museum is incredible! The visiting Leonardo davinci exhibit is better than the one in Florence Italy according to a gentleman visiting the museum while I was there who had just returned from Italy! The auto gallery is beyond comparison... The largest comprehensive collection of model a ford trucks anywhere...displayed using a state of the art robotic system which brings the car of your choice down from a three story storage system!! My out of town guests were amazed!!! Not to mention all of the impressive cars on the floor!!!! The autographed baseball and baseball card collection is beyond compare!! We had an incredible lunch in the cafe upstairs!! This past Sunday there was a high class car show in the parking lot with live music and delicious food! If you don't like the Elliott then you might be considered difficult to please. It's hard to believe such an outstanding museum is in little stuart Florida! Check it out! It's spectacular!!! You cannot possibly see everything in this museum in one hour! It's got so much to offer!! read more

For $57, we took our grandchildren to this museum for only one hour, which was the time it took us to see everything. The newly rebuilt museum is certainly form over function. Wasted space, unimpressive, displays spread out. The only static display besides a small tribute to the man for whom the museum was named and a small baseball alcove, is their car collection which is impossible to see because of their new "garage" behind glass which automatically brings one car at a time to a revolving "stage", putting it back after one revolution. Three stories high and two deep make it impossible to see other cars of interest. The changing exhibit spreads through most of the gallery, leaving no room for what use to be a wonderful display of photographs, artifacts and historic information about the development of this area. When I expressed dissatisfaction at the front desk, suggesting that they bring back the historic portion of the museum, the young gal was dismissive. After mentioning that my husband said he wouldn't be back, her loud parting shot to me was, "His loss!" read more
