I was pleased, being June, that there was still plenty of snow on the mountain. Reaching 11, 250 feet I should not be surprised. Also, the temperature during my visit was very comfortable reaching the high 50's at the base of the mountain. It was perfect for meandering around and soaking in the awesome view. This mountain is definitely worth visiting if you are an enthusiast of geological formations or adventures.

This is a really special mountain to me. It's not just "The Mountain" that I brag to all my friends back East about: "Portland is only an hour form the mountain!" It's a second home. It's where I learned to not trip on my crampons and get used to cold hands and even colder toes. It's where I learned that an Acura TL can make it up the mountain in a blizzard, as long as you have the grit to chain-up in Government Camp. It's where I almost lost people. It's where I made new friends. It's where I hung out with ravens on the summit. It's where I nearly threw up from noxious sulfur fumes. It's where I witnessed rescue efforts. It's where I learned to shoot the stars. It's where I taught others climbing knots. It's where I spent a lot of time alone, at 2am, wondering why I wasn't closing down a bar in Portland. It's where I saw the alpenglow creep over the horizon at 5am and realized all the suffering was worth it.

There's enough wall so that you get a good variety of angles and they're refreshed enough that you rarely go in and say you have nothing to work on. I do usually go at night, and being new to the area, I don't love the parking situation. It's street parking and I never have parked more than two blocks away, but trying to read all the different parking signs at night is a massive pain. That being said, I do enjoy PRG NE more than Beaverton. Unpopular opinion I'm sure. Beaverton seems more sanitized. NE just feels more homey and has more character. I've heard it called more of a "dirt-bag" gym, but I promise you, this place is much nicer than many other dirt-bag gyms I've been around.

Staff welcome you when you get in and all staff are wearing mask. There are hand sanitizer in the gym if you need it. Bryan was very helpful and took the time to explain the safely and the gym facility. You can rent harness, shoes and chalk bag there. So if you are a beginner and doesn't have any gear, no worries, they got you. Even though the gym is not big, there are different level of climb for you to choose from. I don't remember our instructors name but they were super helpful and knowledgeable in the subject. I was confident in my skills after the class was over. After the class they let you keep climbing for as long as you'd like or they give you a pass to come back the same day (for free!) The gym itself has lots to offer! There's a rock climbing area, gym (weights and machines), locker rooms, and a sauna! There may be more upstairs but I didn't make my way up there. Parking: we did street parking and it was pretty inexpensive (I think it was $2/hour). I don't believe they have a parking lot so street parking will be your only option. The Rock Boxx is a decently large bouldering gym with varying terrain: slab, overhangs, aretes, and a top out boulder. The 2nd floor loft has their hangboards and a functional 2024 moonboard. I've only gone a handful of times, I think they're the only climbing gym in town. The setting was okay. I try not to be "that guy," but the grades were comparatively soft. The inside was super chalky and dusty and 80% of the time, the front desk staff abandoned their station to go climbing. For training, this gym serves its purpose. Nothing more, nothing less. My suggestion, make it more friendly and approachable to new climbers. Front desk is standoffish if not downright absent, interior is like a dusty, smelly dungeon

I can honestly tell you my finger strength to weight ratio is not right for rock climbing, but it really does make you want to come back and keep trying again and probably put down the extra burger!! They have a $22 fee for two weeks pass as of jan 2023... you can sign up for as little as one month with no sign-up fees, and nothing about that!!! You just need to give two weeks notice to cancel so basically the minimum you can pay is $44 for a month! I'd say it's well worth it if you didn't have to pay for the damn kids to come with you! They have a small weightlifting session and yoga classes very easily. You could make this a gym if your main intention was to be healthy and have fun. Come and give it a shot. Need more unique business is like this opening up in our area.

I appreciate that you have to pre-book your general session so there is not overcrowding in the kids area. The party room is spacious enough and it was nice to be able to bring your own food in instead of having to order from the establishment itself. The staff is very welcoming, party hosts are always energetic and fun, and the kids burn off energy while being in a safe environment. Make sure to watch the safety video (kids and adults) prior to arriving. I would highly suggest bringing a water bottle as well.
