They had ample amount of parking space, from there it was a short walk to the kids play area, the giant man made cliff at the edge of the quarry and what seemed to be vast hiking trails. The kids park was supposed to be closed for renovations, but people were enjoying it nonetheless with the sign thrown to the side. The cliff was really nice too, you get a glimpse of the downtown skyline, the clean water filled in the quarry alongwith the giant flower (curious to know the purpose of that)! We walked around a bit and it was great place to fly a drone as well if you have it. Its a great place spend your weekend morning or evening and hangout.

The parking really close to the mountain is handicap only, so the intention is for most people to walk a 4.5 mile loop that goes around the mountain and then up it on the way back. It is a substantial climb, both down into a gully with an impressive waterfall and up the mountain itself. The rock does offer wide-spanning views. The infrastructure was not in ideal shape at the time of my visit, with some water fountains down and other limitations in amenities. I also found the trail setup a bit confusing as following marks led me once to a dead end and in another case, I had to hike on a gravel road a bit to get back to the trail and that wasn't marked clearly as the right way to go. While these things could be improved, the park is an excellent resource and as is standard practice in NC (but not in SC or VA), is free to enter.

While trail improvements have eliminated some of the messier areas, the reality is that well worn walking trails also make for welcoming drainage paths. The use of trails is free, but camping is $16 per 2 person tent. It includes bathrooms but no showers. The view overlooking grassy gap is gorgeous at sunrise. It was much quieter than Julian Price, but probably because of the road construction. You must drive quite a bit inside of the park before you get to the camping area.

We took an afternoon drive out to the park and it is definitely worth the effort and time. Legend has it, that Daniel Boone as a boy and his family first used the cave in one manner or another around 1751. There are numerous developed trails with a trailhead at the top. The walk down to the cave is pretty serious, its built wooden steps but its a serious climb down and even more so up. This is the only drawback to visiting the cave. If you are not prepared to climb back up, I didn't count them but its a couple hundred steps easily. Check out the picture of the baby swing with her older sibling being able to swing each other at the same time! What a nice concept for bonding! I also dig the technology of the wheelchair swing! Ideas like that make this place live up to its name by being fully inclusive. The aesthetic to this place is gorgeous! Colorful, clean, safe-feeling. I thought I took more pictures to include, but I'll either have to find them or add more another time. There are murals of Disney characters and other paintings as well. There are slides and swings of all kinds, including a tire swing and this skateboard simulation type swing that's very cool looking! There's "rock" walls for mountain climbing, a music area with xylophone and drums, and there's an awesome roundabout with seat that's a big hit and once again allows for everyone of all sizes and abilities to be able to play! There's also many play structures, open field area for playing, and the ball fields nearby too. Lots of spots for weary parents to sit and rest as well, including a couple of covered areas if you need to get out of the sun for a while. Plan to take the trip and check this playground out! So fun and cool, and I hope other playgrounds start adopting some of the ideas implemented at this one!

It's even handicap accessible. It's next to a little league field and has a walking path around the whole field if you enjoy walking. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because of the bathroom. They don't have a dedicated bathroom for the park, you have to walk a LONG way to the bathroom that's under the snack bar near the baseball fields. Trying to convince a toddler to leave the playground to walk that far is such a battle. If it wasn't for that I'd probably go more regularly. Winston salem needs playgrounds like this!! See for yourself and you'll agree I'm sure.
