Decided to try the Elks or breakfast today. Wasn't too busy so we figured service would be great and we were not disappointed. I had a skillet and Cathy had an omelette. The coffee here is phenomenally great tasting. So if you want good coffee this is the place to go to. Nothing special about it's just good old-fashioned coffee. Our waitress was very friendly in tentative as well as knowledgeable of the menu. Come to find out that she's worked there many many years. I guess you might say we hit the jackpot when it came to being waited on. It's an old building in the middle of downtown so parking is very limited however we got there was able to park right out front. The restaurant itself is very clean and the walls had been painted in recent months. They have a soda fountain so you can get drinks with ice cream or just a dish of ice cream. Our food came out and was hot and adequate in size. Omelette had fresh ingredients in it and it was very tasty and cooked the production. I had the skillet and the eggs were done perfectly as I requested. The hashbrowns were good and had fresh green peppers and really good sausage in it. The food was brought out within 10 minutes of ordering. Our waitress checked on us a few times to make sure our drinks were full. The price of our meals were average and consistent with other cafés we have eaten at in the area. We did not leave hungry! I stopped here one weekend at 8 am and not a single spot open and I had to wait for a spot so I left thinking that I have to stop back because the breakfast must be good. The place is your basic small town cafe with tables, booths and a lunch counter. I got there just after 7 am so I could get a spot this time and I did. I was not super hungry so I ordered two over medium eggs with two sausage patties which came in a timely manner but longer then expected for how empty it was at the time. My over medium eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage patties were moist but the bland kind and nor zesty at all. This restaurant changed ownership over the past few years. It's still pretty much the same - typical small town breakfast and lunch spot that closes after lunch. Breakfast and lunch prices here are very reasonable. I think a grilled chicken sandwich with fries is $8.99. Nowadays - that's pretty cheap! The Elk gives you a choice of soup OR fries with a sandwich while competitor Vasili's (a block away) is more generous - there you get a cup of soup AND fries with your sandwich - I believe its the same price. All in all - I alternate between the two - both decent choices that offer very reasonable prices. read more

This is a nice little family restaurant. The servers were super kind and accommodating. The building is definitely old and showing signs of age, but they rolled with the punches and made the place look nice. The food was just ok, but the prices were very fair. The service was a little slow, but that's okay because I was in no hurry. I think a smaller menu would make things go a little faster, but variety is important at a family restaurant! read more

I like this place! I'm a city girl but I enjoy a good diner type breakfast spot . I've had lunch and breakfast here, lunch was good that's all I remember tbh it was awhile ago. Their pancakes are delicious. Thick, fluffy, cooked perfectly. I had the choc chip and enjoyed them thoroughly. I found it quite amusing that the kitchen was jammin out to some death metal and everyone in the dining room could hear it, mostly older folks were kind of chuckling and making faces and I knew why! The open faced turkey, which wasn't really open faced as there was bread on top, had enough gravy poured on it to classify it as a soup. I would not eat it gain, but with the service being so friendly and attentive I would give this place another try. read more

The restaurant was good and reasonably priced. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my girlfriend ordered the veggie omelette. The eggs Benedict was good and came with a lot of hollandaise sauce. The veggie omelette was good as well. The restaurant itself was cute with old decor, but it was a bit too small for liking. After an up and down weekend in touristy Lake Geneva, we needed a solid happy ending on a family trip: lunch at The Elk totally fit the bill. Our party of 9 was absolutely welcomed. The server was amazingly patient with our Littles (and us adults). Between us, we had delicious burgers, excellent fries, soup, sandwiches, pancakes, a milkshake, a phosphate soda, and PIE. Everything was soooo good. Service was fantastic. The town is darling. Next time we are going to do Octoberfest in Elkhorn! read more

This is a small town establishment. Stopped for breakfast for the first time. Had the 2-2-2. 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon strips. Asked for scrambled eggs. Came out looking like a flat omelette. It's ok. Nothing spectacular. Note whatever your party size waiting to be seated it truly is first come first served. So a table for six given to 2 people, despite a larger parties waiting. Service was fine but food delivery a bit slow. But if your hungry and looking for a breakfast spot its ok. Everyone knows each other here. Local town hangout. read more

Got there at 1:44pm on a Saturday. Sign said OPEN and hour sign on door said open until 2pm. I walked in and immediately was told they were closed. Unfortunately they didn't know that I wasn't the type of person to stay until after hours. I wasn't even offered the option for a carry out which I would have gladly done. I will not be returning. If you are open until 2pm then be open. If not then change your hour sign to 1:30pm. It's the polite thing to do. read more

After looking for somewhere that didn't fry everything on our road trip we landed up in downtown Elkhorn (really charming by the way) at the Elk Restaurant. It had the classic diner feel that necessitated ordering a milkshake (very tasty!) I got a philly wrap with the salad bar. The wrap was satisfying and cheesy. The salad bar was a bit strange to me. It had iceberg lettuce, many types of potato/macaroni salad and just a couple toppings, like olives and cheese. It was only $3.95 though, so I couldn't complain much. Our waitress was very nice, and it really sealed the deal when she asked if we wanted some pie (we didn't, but we loved the offer). So much parking. Definitely a good place to go for a nice sit down meal, especially on the middle of a long road trip. read more

I loved walking into this place. I felt like I was walking back in time and I loved everything about it. The small, cozy booths, the soda fountain and general feel of the place. They make an exceptionally delicious Reuben sandwich! It was darn near perfect! Heck, looking back, I think it was perfect. It was the most beautifully constructed Reuben I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I also appreciated the perfectly delicious thousand island dressing on the side. Service was young and inexperienced - but only added to the charm of this place. My daughters pancakes were delicious and my husband enjoyed his breakfast dish! Next time we're in the area, I just might demand that my brother lead the way to Elk Restaurant again! read more

Nice place. Attentive staff. Very basic food. My omelet was flat made, with a minimal amount of ingredients. Hash browns were the frozen kind, but was nicely seasoned. No extras asked for when ordering the chili, most places would check if you want cheese and onion. For a quick meal when we were tired and hungry, it did the job. read more
