Mars is a gem in Lake Geneva. The views are incredible, especially if you can grab a spot overlooking the lake around sunset. The atmosphere is old supper club vibes and relaxing making it a great spot out after a lake day. What really stood out were the Wisconsin old fashions - brandy, sweet These were some of the best I've had in Wisconsin. The food was great for the prices and really appreciate what they are doing so well. There is NO reservations and the wait will be at least an hour. Be ready to wait. Fortunately they have a bar on the lower deck overlooking Lake Como to have a drink while you wait. Also they have a boat cruise that docks right at Mars to take while waiting. If you are driving here, parking is not good. You will have to park far away and most near by lots ban parking to Mars. Drivers be warned. Overall, the service was friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, and the experience exceeded expectations. Between the stunning lake views, great cocktails, and welcoming atmosphere, Mars is a must-visit whenever you're in Lake Geneva. Highly recommend! read more

Classic Wisconsin humble yet oh-so-perfect hole-in-the-wall supper club We came on a Christmas time Friday. The place was packed. We waited for 45 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it with live music and a Santa Claus walking around to entertain the kids. Tremendous bartenders and friendly staff made the wait short. Food was executed well with great sides and excellent cocktails. A solid fish fry with lots of options and a great coleslaw. My wife loved her ribs. Classic supper club atmosphere, warm and good service. We were seated by the window overlooking the frozen lake. Our drinks were pricey but very good; strong pours. I ordered the walleye with potato pancakes and cole slaw. My potato pancakes were great; very buttery and crisp on the outside. My walleye was ok but had a few fine bones. Breading was light but could have been a little crispier. My wife had blackened salmon with green beans and a salad. The salmon was very good with a light but tasty blackened seasoning. The green beans were cooked just right and the salad was very good. Would be nice to have a roll or bread with dinner. Very good overall, would definitely come back. read more

Mars is an essential experience in the Lake Geneva area. It's not bougie nor pretensions. It's quintessential Wisconsin supper club dining and it's absolutely enjoyable. I don't think they take reservations, but tables turn fairly quickly. Part of the charm is hanging out and enjoying the scene. Staff is super nice. Sit at the bar if you get a chance. Bartenders are helpful and social. The food is good. If you get the ribs ask for Cisco style. It's a dry rub with sauce on the side. Portions are generous. Prices are fair. Drinks are good. This place kills it every time. I swear everything on the menu is great, but their charred chicken and ribs are my two favorite things. The ribs might be the best I've ever had, fall off the bone and delicious. But the charred chicken is out of this world too. We've also come on Wednesdays or Fridays for their fish fry, which is fantastic (I like the walleye best, myself). They have a full bar, as well as a full outdoor space, complete with a small beach! We come in on a Friday night early and the place was packed. we ordered serval Brandy Old fashioned and sat at the bar. The patrons were all friendly as was the staff. we sat down about 30 minutes later. Our server came up and offered us more drink which we obliged . Food wise I had the Halibut which was perfectly cooked and amazing and the potatoes pancakes which were also great. My husband had the fried chicken which wasn't greasy but sooo flavorful. Mars Resort has been a favorite spot for my parents for years--they've been here dozens of times! This was my first visit, and I finally understand why they love it here. The food was incredible. I ordered the baked cod special for $17 (available only on Wednesdays and Fridays), and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I also appreciated the generous portion of lemon wedges, which added the perfect touch of acidity. My husband had the Grecian pork chops ($30) and enjoyed them. One standout dish was the Mars Monster Burger ($16)--our friend ordered it, and we all couldn't help but stare because it was massive and looked delicious. Most of our table also ordered a delicious cup of chili! Across the board, we all agreed: the food at Mars Resort is fantastic! On top of the great food, the service was excellent. Our waitress was quick, attentive, and incredibly friendly, making sure we had everything we needed without feeling rushed. She added to the overall experience and made us feel welcome, especially because I know having a table with many guests can feel daunting. The atmosphere of the interior is warm and inviting with a vintage charm that adds to its character. Everything was clean and comfortable, though one thing to note is that the bathrooms, located between the front doors and the second set of doors, are extremely small. So, we waited 1 hour for a table, but thats not the issue. We expected good food, my Salmon Sandwich was dry as hell, and they gave me honey mustard on the side. The sandwich was actually dry as hell, really bad. And my brother got the fish sandwich with chips, and they gave him store bought chips, sandwich itself was alright, kinda mid. Also, my other brother got half rack of ribs, DRY AS HELL???! We were told this place was known for their ribs but we were thoroughly disappointed. This beachside resort/restaurant/ bar/ beach bar is killer. The time we were there they did not take reservations. We were lucky enough to find seats at the bar but was not able to put in a dinner order due to some kind of priority system with the restaurant and the bar. We did finally get a table next to the entry/exit door with many hungry customers waiting for a table. Certainly not ideal but we are seated and not waiting. Service was excellent and so were the drinks and food. The ribs are as advertised. I loved them along with the excellent fried chicken and loaded baked tater. In fact we'll be going back next week for the fish fry on Wednesdays and Fridays where they serve cod, perch, walleye and blue gill fried and baked. Great location on Lake Cuomo! Long wait times average 1.5-2 hours on weekends; however, there is plenty of lakeside seating while you wait. During the Summer, Mars offers complimentary boat rides around the lake while you wait, which was perfect for enjoying a cocktail and enjoying the sunset! Go for the fish fry and ribs. Enjoyed their Friday fish fry...it was amazing! If you're in a hurry, this is not your place. We arrived and had a 60 minute wait. Had a couple drinks at the bar while we waited for a table. Food did not come out quickly, but we were there for a relaxing meal, and the service was amazing! The fish was cooked to perfection, and the fries were golden and crispy. Wow! What a place! You can tell its goid when people are waiting 2 hours plus to eat. The ambiance was great. It was still nice enough outside to enjoy our drinks on the deck while we waited for our table. The fish was outstanding. I got the fish fry. My mother in laws walleye was the best we have had in a while. On a somewhat sour note, the bar and bartenders need some tweeking. Not great that eating is allowed at the bar, but not their fault. Their drink making skills on the other hand were less than stellar. There is no drink menu, so how am i supposed to know what they can make. I asked for a sweet/fruity martini and was served straight vodka with a drop of cran that they called a cosmo. Choked it down, but, yuck. Its easy to batch drinks when you are always that busy. After years of hearing about this place, we had to try it. We were visiting off season so not a long wait. Food & drinks were fine--not too expensive. The service, however, was awful. Not only were we rushed all night, but our server literally did not smile once. When we politely asked for a drink to be fixed that had wrong liquor, she seemed BEYOND irritated. Her attitude remained despite our best efforts to be responsive & friendly. Anyway...the "best for last" was the manager coming over to "see how our meals were" at the end & ending with a polite reminder to leave as they have a 2 hour limit. We were in fact getting by ready to go (just finishing dessert) but this was the last straw for us as far as enjoying the night. We jumped up immediately & he stammered a thank you. When we got outside we noticed a) there were only a very few if any still waiting, and b) it hadn't even been 2 hours (despite us ordering 2 drinks, apps, fish, and dessert)! We were very quiet and polite all night so maybe they thought we wouldn't mind.....but we all walked out & said "Well that's the last time I'd visit that place"! I've been a waitress so I'm very sensitive to most criticism of service, in general (people can have very unrealistic expectations and often have not had this very demanding role)....this, however, was beyond warranted. My guess is it's popular because of its size- so the wait is huge in summer because it's so small--so the wait makes it seem desirable? And it's on the lake. If it's the water you love, try The Village in Delavan!!! Great food, beautiful setting, stunning decor & fab service. The manager is also very responsive. Total Gem! 5 stars. This was our first experience and other friends from the Chicago area said this is a must and they were correct! Amazing views of Lake Como I had seen on travel videos had me venturing out to the Mars Resort. It's just a short drive away from Lake Geneva, so worth the detour for dining/drinks with a great waterfront/sunset view. Parking was sparse on a weeknight at the start of offseason just after Labor Day, so can't imagine how difficult it must be during peak summer season. I arrived just before sunset, so only stayed to enjoy the lake views out on the backside of the property where there's plenty of outdoor seating with excellent Lake Como views. The interiors of the restaurant seemed a bit drab, but it is a historic property dating back to 1923. While I'm not sure Mars Resort is worth a visit for a meal (the menu on their website doesn't include prices, which I'm always a bit wary of), you are in for a treat on a sunny day if you like water/sunset views. read more

Why they call this place a resort is beyound us (no cabins or diversions), just mosquito bites if you sit on their porch. Back indoors the ceiling is el-cheap-o, carpets crawl away their own, and toilets are bleak so bring your safety gloves. Bar-side they still believe (like those high school, wapatui pranksters who over-spike the punchbowl), believing that extra ethel-strength thereby equals quality taste. After letting all the ice melt, it's menu time. Fryer grease coated frozen bar appetizers. Dead meat is $16.00 burger, 8oz filet for $38.00 ?!? Shrimp $22.00 ? Fish $29.00 ! This place is a dive-bar, with juke joint size, and tiny floorspace --so why fine dining prices we ask. As for speed, good turnaround. As for flavor and prep, the MOST BASIC of kitchen knowledge and rarely a medium rare meat request without red-raw-bloody centers coming back on cuts and burgers, as turnover during rushes takes precedent over temperature requests. Really great all around. It was Friday and in Wisconsin that means fish fry. We both got the walleye and the portion was huge. The fish came with a choice of sides and we both went with corn fritters and clam chowder. When we got there during lunch, we were told that were would be a 20 minute wait but it definitely went by faster than 20 minutes. The vibes insider were reminiscent of a supper club. The waitstaff were attentive the whole time and the restaurant goers were friendly in classic Wisconsin fashion. The restaurant also has some nice seats outside facing Lake Como. This restaurant does not take reservations. We came at 630 on a Wednesday and had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The view is lake Como is mesmerizing. Once we were sat our waitress Sam came over immediately and got us cocktail refills. She was an amazing waitress. I had the filet mignon which was cooked to my liking with the corn fritters which were so good. I was told the ribs were fall off the bone. It's a great place to kayak to and hang out. They often have bands right on the lakeshore, so you can float on your boat and have a drink. There is an outdoor bar during the summer, and the staff is friendly and kind. read more

Well we have been to Mars many times over the last few years. A while back I did a review that was accurate... the restaurant went down hill fast. So I decided to try again.... Another mistake. The interior was dirty, flies everywhere, the windows were so dirty you could hardly see out. The food (had the fish fry and ribs).... Both terrible!!! We went for dinner the day before 4th of July and the wait was 3 hours by 6pm (party of 6). We came back the next day at 4pm and got seated right away. We got cheese curds and the cheese & crackers for appetizers. The curds were good but some of the crackers were stale. For dinner I had the fried walleye with baked potato and salad. I also got an "enhancement" with a 1/2 rack of ribs. Both were very tasty. My wife got the cod fish fry with potato wedges. Overall, the experience was great and the food was tasty. If we judged the foods only, this place would be 3.5. However, due to the atmosphere of the place, it is a 4. I love that they have live music. For appetizers, I got clam chowder and my boyfriend got salad. The clam chowder was good. For entrees, I got the charred duck and he got ribs. The ribs were pretty good but a bit overcooked. The charred duck was very crispy and the duck was tender. Nevertheless, i did not like the sauce that went with it. i think it was too sweet for my taste. We got green beans as a side dish and it was delicious. This is my "go to" restaurant/Supper Club. The food is delicious and comforting. The menu changes with the seasons. The bar pours a great Old Fashioned and the service is always great. There are two gentlemen that clear plates, fill your water, and make sure you have what you need. I want to give them a big compliment, they are easily ignored, but standout to me for the excellent job they constantly do. This is a well established location right on the lake. It's everything Wisconsin. In the summer there's a sandy beach for dining and even a pontoon boat to take a ride while you wait for your table.
