We all know getting a tattoo can be a fun way to express yourself, but sometimes people regret their choices later. It's not uncommon for someone to want a cover-up tattoo because they weren't happy with their first one. All tattoo artists know that a cover-up often comes with a story behind it lol . My husband got a crazy tattoo when he was just 14 or 15. As he grew older, he realized he couldn't stand looking at that tattoo anymore. Lol and he has nice arms but he'll always keep them covered because of that damn tat. So, he decided it was time to get a cover-up. When you get a bad tat you realize how important it is to choose the right artist for the job. A good artist can turn a mistake into something beautiful. I started looking for tattoo shops for his cover-up While researching, I found Elk Grove Tattoos. Edger, the artist there, really impressed me right away with his work, I can admit lol I stalked his page for about a week watching all his dope work. I finally reached out to him and explained my husband janky tat. Edger mentioned he liked our last name so he threw some ideas out about peacocks. What he didn't know was ... he already gained my trust because I've seen his work so I set the date and he did his thang. The tattoo came out amazing it had a lot of detail my husband absolutely loves it, and the best part is that you would never guess it was a cover-up. Not every tattoo artist is comfortable doing cover-ups or working over someone else's designs, but Edger handled it perfectly, and I'm really glad I chose him for this project. Now that I've shared the backstory about the tattoo, I want to talk about something else that is very important to me--which is cleanliness of the shop. I use to be a first responder so this is deff a stickler for me, their space is very clean and well-organized, which makes me feel comfortable right away. The vibe of the shop is very family-oriented, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. The artists act professionally, and their positive energy creates a great atmosphere. I also took some time to check out other artists in the shop work on IG because I follow their Instagram page, and I was very impressed by their work as well. Each artist has a unique style, and honestly, you can't go wrong with anyone you choose. I like that , that's important to Edger to not just have artists but to have great artist. They all have amazing skills and a passion for what they do, which makes the whole experience even better. I truly believe that you will be happy with any artist at this shop; it's a place where quality and care come together beautifully. Recently, my husband just doubled back to get a touch-up on a tattoo he got from a different artist. As always Edgar, did his thang. Once my husband removed the plastic and it properly heals, I'll share an updated picture. His plan is to eventually create a full sleeve tattoo, so we wanted to start with the touch-ups first before adding more designs. It's exciting to see how everything will come together in the end! All the artists at Elk Grove Tattoos are very skilled and only getting better! Just went back to Edgar a few weeks ago to get both my parents tattooed not only did he have laser removal that day but he also went to the dentist, if I was in his shoes I would have been beat! He got me in as a walk in that day since I was in town and I'm still surprised on how fast he works. 2 portraits in about 4 hours. Last time I went to him about a year or 2 ago same thing got both my grandparents done in about 4 hours. Love the vibes at the this shop. Oh and got chucky from him years back. The skin he was working on was compromised because of multiple tattoo removal tattoo sessions which makes it a bit more difficult. Great 5 star experience at Elk Grove Tattoos yesterday, 05.15.2023. I started my tattoo design journey in July 2022 after an encounter with a bear as part of a 9 years lifestyle/change journey. I first talked to Griselda one of the two owners who listened to my story, my goals then got me connected with an artist intern, Meli. I gave Meli my ideas, rough pictures, the goal and described the meaning. She completed the drawing/design within a week or so and it was better than I'd expected. I booked an appointment; keep in mind they are booked out quite a ways. I got in within about 2 months but they are booked out up to 6 months depending on the tattoo artist. As my appointment time drew near, I met with Edgar the owner/tattoo artist to discuss logistics and placement of the tattoo, final design, the experience, my spiritual awakening and the meaning behind my tattoo design. We agreed on the final design and secured the final meet date; we had to reschedule a couple times due to an unexpected injury I incurred. I paid a deposit, plus received updates and reminders about my appointment. Because this artwork is permanent, I wanted to be fully educated on not only the process, a sense of security and comfort from the artist - Edgar, the process, etc. I made it a point to get to know the owners and to some extent Meli. The tattoo experience was awesome. Did it hurt, yes! Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! The process from start to finish was clean, sterilized, made sure the design was positioned properly on my arm. When it seemed off due to the design and my arm, Edgar repositioned it so it would be precisely perfect. Edgar's gentle nature, checking to make sure I was "good", the artistic work and the after care were excellent, even his at home instructions for me were very helpful. I purchased the after care products, too, which I like better. The shop is ultra clean, classy looking with current and popular paint gray and white scheme, almost elegant. Black cabinets, work stations and chairs, and the front counter is also in black. The decor and work space is open space, plain but classy, not cluttered, with a nice waiting area and plenty of room for the artists to work without crowding and bumping into each other. It's definitely not a dive, it looks like a high class place. There's some cool art and decor including a huge stuffed elk head with massive antlers. Edgar is the owner and what I'd call the featured artist, so his station is visible from the front. It's like a spotlighted location as it should be for what I'd call the top dog. His work is beautiful, he's quite talented. My tattoo, which I love, does not show the exceptional work Edgar is capable of doing. His work is absolutely incredible. There are other artists in the shop, I'm not familiar with them or their work but I'm sure they are talented also. Meli is an up and coming artist, too, already tattooing. It's my understanding that all the artists have different styles and backgrounds, all are good. All of my interactions with owners Edgar and Griselda were exceptional and so had many as this artwork is permanent. They treated me with the utmost respect. Meli was awesome, very artistic, knowledgeable with the design program. The friendliness of everyone made me feel super welcome and their goals for me to leave happy with the artwork/tattoo was import. I love the tattoo, Edgar, the line work and shading is exactly as I wanted and 100% spot on with the design. Thank you Meli, you captured what I wanted. Big thanks to Griselda, too, for working around my crazy schedule and answering all my drop on questions lol. I appreciate all of you. What a wonderful experience at an upscale place. read more
