I normally don't write reviews but I need to share our experience with those who are looking for help. We took our son to the dr after reading her book. We thought she had a neutral stance on medicating a child and could help us figure things out. I want to make this review as unbias as possible so people reading can make an informed decision: GOOD She saw us right away. She was the first person that nailed down what was the main problem with our child. She gave us additional information that helped us make changes in helping our child. NOT GOOD She didn't understand how to medicate.....she didn't understand how the medication affected the body! She wouldn't take any phone calls or emails...only appointments. She didn't give us any therapy options She didn't have any solutions to our childs problems NEUTRAL Didn't take insurance Wasn't empathetic (would have been nice if she was but we were more concerned about helping our child) Very abrasive (didn't matter if she was helping our child) FINAL COMMENTS Unfortunately, we still have not found a doctor that can help our child but we decided the only way to help our child is to read everything we can about what's wrong and come up with our own game plan to help our child. We are starting to see good results. My advise is to never give up in helping your child and always be learning what will work and what won't. read more

This doctor Elizabeth Roberts is an expert in her field. She is truly passionate about doing the right thing and has also testified in Washington DC about several major issues in her field I would trust her advice and go for her any day of the week and twice on Sunday. All the best! read more

Cold, abrasive, uncaring woman. Does not work with insurance. Refused to release medical information (literally hung up the phone) to an inpatient clinic because she wasn't being paid. Went on about her student loan debt during session. Thought she was hot shit because she was on Oprah or something. God. Just really unhelpful and self-centered. I hated going to her. Seriously, go to anyone else; find someone who cares for your wellbeing and wants to support your mental health. read more

There are people who will always complain, no matter how good a doctor is. These are people who won't take responsibility for their own lives so they blame others. Dr. Roberts is a highly trained professional psychiatrist who DOES have empathy and cares a great deal, but will also tell you the truth and act as a true professional. If you don't like what she has to say, then you are obviously free to see another psychiatrist. But she has helped countless individuals, has written several excellent books, has been a long-time advocate for children and people with substance abuse problems and is highly perceptive and knowledgeable. Sometimes, it's not only about medications but also about what you are willing to put into therapy and about being honest with her as well as yourself. As for insurance, Dr. Roberts clearly states that she does not accept insurance so why some people on this YELP site are making an issue of it is kind of ridiculous. But as I said, some people just like to complain and be the victims. read more

I had the absolute worst experience trying to make an appt for my son with the gentlemen who called me from her office. Asked if my son was on medication. When I told him what kind he was on, he proceeded to tell me that the medication I was giving him is METH, and speed! He then told me that she doesn't prescribe that medication because it leads to ticks and schizophrenia! He was so incredible rude and insensitive, and continued to tell me that I was ruining my son by having him on medication. read more

Very difficult to get along with, almost combative. The guy who answers the phones for her office, he is just rude and mean.

Dr Roberts helped me a great deal over the course of 10 sessions. She is definitely stern and does not beat around the bush. I can see why folks might not like her approach. Particularly if they are looking for validation or just a shoulder to cry on. However I found her to be insightful and intelligent and appreciated her unadulterated take on the issues I was facing. She was a refreshing change from the other therapists that I had seen in that she was willing to share her opinion in a fearless manner. It is not always easy to hear the unvarnished truth and she certainly made me squirm occasionally. The truth though is a rare commodity and should be treasured accordingly. Dr. Elizabeth Roberts has been a lifesaver for our family. She listened carefully to my daughter's symptoms and, more importantly, helped me understand why she diagnosed her the way she did. One of the things that I appreciated the most was that she quickly changed her medication around until we found the correct combination. I don't love that my daughter needs to be taking medicine to overcome her emotional health challenges. One of the biggest factors that allows me to trust Dr. Robert's is knowing that she is passionate about making sure my daughter is not taking medication that is too high of a dose or unnecessary. She is not someone who is going to prescribe medication for the sake of someone just feeling that they need them. After years (16) of searching for a doctor that could pinpoint exactly where & what were my underling issues that have molded my adult behaviors; Dr. Roberts in my opinion was a God send. Sure she's a little quirky, however being able to look past idiosyncrasies opened a doorway to long buried truths about myself, that provided a new perspective & finally solutions and answers. My life has improved tremendously over a 60 day period and I owe it to Dr. Roberts for her patience, understanding, professional expertise, and her ability to connect past events to current behaviors. If you are seeking a doctor that can help, I highly recommend Dr. Roberts. If however, you are looking for a doctor to argue with and judge? You're probably going to leave the same way you came in. A degree does not equal empathy.....taking advice from someone who thinks they know everything can be dangerous....everyone has something to learn. She charges $200 an hour and does not take insurance. I do believe she is some what of an expert in medications and she helped my violent Autistic child get on the right meds. However, don't bother taking her your paperwork for any state services as she does not understand them and will not fill them out correctly. read more

(I don't leave reviews of Doctors period and this one is not flattering but there is no way I can avoid leaving my honest and heartfelt review of this horrible caregiver)..........Ok, here I go. This awful ego laden woman should retire since she demonstrates zero empathy or courtesy to the family members of her patients or takes proper steps for her patents well being in her absence. My wife tried to reach her the first week my son went under her care and had begun meds prescribed by Dr. Roberts for his serious mental illness. My son reacted very badly to the meds after a week and my wife tried to reach the Dr. for advice. She was informed the Dr. was on airplane going on vacation. (Alarm#1.) There was no other Dr. left to look after her patients or take her calls while she vacationed. So they asked my wife if it was an emergency. She described our son's extremely agitated and degraded state but left the emergency call up to the answering service. They apparently reached her and she called the next day but missed my wife and instead, spoke to our paranoid schizophrenic son. My wife, a scared and concerned mother, correctly called the Dr. again to see what she should do, knowing our son may not be able to give an honest or clear summation of the conversation. Alarm#2) What she received was a brow beating by Dr. Roberts on how this wasn't an emergency and "didn't my wife realize she was on a vacation". Not once did she make any attempt to calm her fears or explain what plan of action she/we would take, nor was my wife ever allowed to explain his symptoms of degradation and radical agitation. I'll say it again. This Dr Roberts is an in my opinion only and based upon our limited but powerful experience with her, an unethical disgrace and should retire since she apparently has zero empathy for her own patents or their family. Her actions also show she clearly thinks herself better than others with the way she talks down to people. Do yourself a favor..run, don't walk the other way. In my opinion as a doctor, she is truly unethical and awful.....................................Wow, that's about as honest and unflattering as I can get without using foul language. Udate 4/27/12 Hey Lydia, Just what is your relationship to Dr Roberts, hmm? What qualifies your opinion?? Are you a patient, friend, coworker, relative? You have sent me numerous scathing emails so I am guessing you are a little bias here. And saying that a concerned parent deserves to be browbeaten by a Dr is pretty disgusting. Again, the Dr left town, which of course is her right, but she left no covering Physician/Psychiatrist to take her patients calls which is unethical. read more

I regret not reading reviews about her before going to see her. She is not empathetic whatsoever. She comes across very abrasive. In my case she took me off anti anxiety medication cold turkey, she did not care about the ugly withdrawal effects I was going to experience.She was supposed to taper me off the meds!! She got mad at me for taking the medication, (but nothing else worked.) I expected a professional advise about how to stop this meds and I only found reproach form her. I left her office scared and frightened. Now I have a new psychiatrist, a nice person, very professional. I do not recommend her to anybody read more

Dr Roberts is singular. She helped me out with my son over the course of three years. She always was caring and did all she could beyond the call of duty to help me son. He is 18 now and doing great. She was exactly what he needed and got him through very tough times. She doesn't over medicate kids and knows her profession very well. read more

When I called today I was talked down to and belittled! I have no idea if Dr. Roberts is good herself but she sure as hell needs a new staff member up front!!! I have never been more disrespected in my life in regards to talking about the decisions I make for my son. I will be calling the board to complain about the comments made. read more

I went to Dr. Roberts after moving to Temecula from Seattle. I needed to find a psychiatrist to prescribe for me the medication that I had been taking for my ADD for the past 12 years. In Seattle, I had been under the care of the same doctor for the entire time I had been taking the medication, which worked very well for me. When I made the appointment, I explained to the receptionist exactly what I was looking for and told them the medication that I had been taking. I paid $300 for this hour and an half "consultation". During the first 10 minutes we discussed my previous care, the medication that I took and the fact that I had no insurance. We discussed how expensive it is to move to another state and I made very clear that the $300 was a difficulty for me. Over the next hour and an half, Dr. Roberts talked extensively about herself and all of her accomplishments. Other than that she proceeded to ask a number of questions that I thought a bit strange...had I ever had seizures, a head injury, thoughts of suicide...but no questions about my struggle with ADD. At the end of our appointment she told me that she didn't prescribe my medication and that she wanted me to go on Wellbutrin. I told her that I was happy with the results of my previous medication and did not which to try another (especially one that had a side effect that included suicidal thoughts or actions). I left her office with a phone number for a doctor who "would prescribe whatever I wanted" and no closer to being able to fill a prescription for the medication that I sorely need to manage my daily life. I later looked into Wellbutrin and discovered that the majority of the questions she had been asking were only to see if I was a candidate to take Wellbutrin! I don't know if she gets a kickback from the pharmaceutical company that manufactures this drug...but it was clear to me that getting me to switch, with no concern for what I wanted or what worked for me, was her primary goal. If she didn't prescribe my medication, she could have told me that in the first 10 minutes and charged me a lesser amount, or at the VERY LEAST not wasted my time. I thought her arrogant and unethical and would not recommend her to anyone. read more

I could not be more pleased with the service I have received from Dr. Roberts. My daughter was in a serious crisis when she was initially seen by Dr. Roberts. Dr Roberts quickly assessed the situation and supported my daughter (and I) with a treatment plan. My daughter took to Dr Roberts immediately and felt that there was hope. Choosing to medicate your child is not an easy decision. Dr Roberts did a wonderful job of explaining the medications both to my daughter and I. She is able to provide both therapy as well as medication, which is unique. I am 100% satisfied with the services and treatment I have received from Dr Roberts! read more

I went to Dr. Roberts for severe anxiety and panic attacks. She was really helpful and gave me tips on how to manage my anxiety. She gave me the confidence that I was going to be ok and that l didn't have to live this horrible limited life I was living anymore. She prescribed medication that really helped me and I now feel like I am the person I've always wanted to be, but couldn't because of my anxiety. I am very grateful for her help. I would definitely recommend her for anyone who struggles with anxiety. After a year of treatment, I've never felt better. read more

When my 15 year old daughter started showing signs of extreme OCD behavior right after her father left us, I was very concerned. She came to me crying and asked for my help. She also had depression and anxiety, which OCD can bring on. I took her to the Dr.s in our health plan. After seeing three idiots that were no help, one who was so rude to me and his patient, my daughter turned to the internet. Thank God she found Dr. Roberts! She called back right away and saw her right away. What had happened was the Prozac medication that the other Dr.s had been prescribing had quit working. She ended up in the emergency room twice! NO ONE could figure this out except for Dr. Robert's. She promptly put her on a medication that has not been proven to quit working. She also gave her something in the interim to help until the other kicked in. FINALLY, I had my girl back! Finally, she was laughing and smiling again. Something that she had not done in over a year! Since my husband left, we couldn't afford the medication. Dr. Roberts suggested to look into an assistance program that the manufacturer of the medication offered. We sent her the part she needed to fill out, and promptly sent it off. She was very helpful in that regard, also. Just recently, we had an issue come up, and she came to my daughter's assistance immediately. In a week, she was back to normal. She figured out something no other Dr. could have. It was a minor detail, but she found it and corrected it. It was the pharmacy's fault. Dr. Roberts has always treated myself and my daughter with the utmost respect. I live with 2 geniuses, and understand where she is coming from. My daughter isn't much of a talker, so she would tell her stories that would make her laugh and feel comfortable about talking. She absolutely loves her and wouldn't think of going to anyone else. Just FYI - I am not related, nor do I work for her! This is a legitament review. I hope you find what you are looking for. I called a while ago after a particularly rough patch. I tearfully told the receptionist I was a new patient and would like to be seen as soon as possible. They then giggled and said, verbatim, "well, you probably won't wanna see her after I tell you this! She only accepts cash." I am quite underwhelmed & disappointed with my experience as a new patient for my son. While I fully believe that some doctors are over-medicating for ADHD, this is not always the case. My sons school has exhausted numerous interventions in the school setting. I am at my wits end and was hoping for some ideas, that could possibly include a trial period of medication. Instead, I was told she doesn't prescribe any medication for ADHD. She doesn't believe in it. She made blanket generalizations, while applicable to some, didn't apply to my son. She recommended an anti-depressant. In my opinion, she has pulled at the heart strings of many parents in America who are against meds. I want what's best for my son, which may or may not be medication. However, she is too firm on her anti-medication stance that unless you have her same agenda, don't bother spending your money. read more

IF YOU WANT TO GET BETTER...THEN SEE DR. ROBERTS! My husband began treatment with Dr. Roberts in 2007 after a life-changing breakdown that left him unable to even tie his shoes or order off of a menu! Dr. Roberts was, and continues to be, a wonderful & professional Doctor. Presently my husband sees her for maintenance visits maybe once a year to touch base and best of all...he is med. free! Now, in the land of psychiatry, that is an AMAZING feat! She took TIME with us...listening to an extensive review of his health history, life history, family history etc. I sat with him through most of his sessions...she took the time to listen to all we had been through, to hear about what was going on in our lives. It was very clear to us that her objective was to get him well as soon as possible. She was able to diagnose and prescribe him not only the PROPER medication for his diagnosis, but took time to dial in the dosage, to touch base regularly making sure he was adjusting properly, she informed us of what side effects he could expect, what was normal or not normal etc. She was very informative and very helpful. She was a voice of reason and encouragement in the midst of a very trying and unsure time in our lives. Her goal: to bring his mind back to functioning at normal capacity and to wean him off of his medication. She wanted his brain to assume it's natural function without the assistance of medication for the rest of his life. It took three years of consistent treatment, but we did it with her help! THIS IS HUGE! How many Dr.'s do you know that, when you go in to see them, you talk for maybe fifteen minutes and they hand you a prescription and leave you to figure everything else out on your own? She never did that...in fact she was spot on in her treatment of him. She actually increased his dosage within studied parameters but above the standard high dose because she knew there are a small percentage of people that responded with another bump in the dosage. And you know what? It worked! She increased his dose when many doctors may have wanted to wean him off and start the very long process of beginning another psychiatric medication. She did that because she is educated and has a very comprehensive understanding of medicine. Her goal and ours: heal his mind so that it will be able to function on it's own without the assistance of medication for life. Goal accomplished. She is an amazing Doctor. Did she ask a lot of questions? Yes. Did some of those questions help her figure out what medication would be the best course of treatment for my husband? Yes. Did she maybe change her opinion of what medication might be best based on his answers to those questions? Possibly, yes. The fact remains she helped get my husband back on his feet and to be where he is today! I am thankful she asked all of those questions...they helped bring the healing and wholeness that he needed. Most doctors do not ask questions to see if a certain medication will work well with a patient's medical history but she did, and we reaped the benefits of trusting her with that! We are grateful for her help, her treatment, her expertise and continued care and concern for the health and wellbeing of our family. We would gladly recommend her to any of our closest friends and family...thanks Dr. Roberts! read more
