I have been to Elite in the past for quick flu shots and other things of that nature. I was feeling ill in Mid-March and went to the clinic as it is close to my home and easy to schedule an appointment with. I went in with flu like symptoms and was concerned that I had been exposed to strep throat. Instead of being tested for strep, I was told "it looked like it" and was provided antibiotics and a sinus cocktail shot. My condition worsened throughout the week, and I returned to the clinic for more answers. A covid test was given (negative), but nothing related to strep or any other testing. I was prescribed a stronger antibiotic and sent on my way once more. My condition continued to worsen through the following week, and I decided to see a family doctor as I was working in my hometown. I was immediately tested for strep, found negative, and further testing revealed that I had mono. This was approximately two weeks after I initially was seen at Elite.
My immune system was compromised due to the strong antibiotics I was taking while still trying to fight off the virus. Additionally, my activity level prior to being diagnosed was higher than it should have been had I known that I had mono. As I returned to Memphis, my symptoms became increasingly more severe with my fever reaching temps over 105. I was hospitalized and have been slowly recovering since.
I am not one to question the knowledge of professionals that have worked hard to enter the fields they occupy. However, I feel that it was extremely reckless to not test me for anything (beside covid) when I had legitimate concerns as to my exposure. I am not looking forward to the bills coming my way from my emergency admittance to the hospital, all of which could have been avoided with thoughtful testing during my initial visit to Elite. My experience and care plan there seemed rushed, and ultimately focused on a speedy check out.
Personally, I will not be returning to the clinic for any other matters. It was convenient for shots and other superficial treatments, but when I needed proper care I was sorely let down. read more
